Okay well I just did a clean install of iOS8 and then Restore from iCloud and Swype is still not functional. Hoping those guys have a better idea of what is happening.

One nice thing I found is that once you install a 3rd party keyboard you can delete the standard English keyboard and then you can quickly switch between Emoji and Swiftkey reliably. You will still get the standard keyboard on password fields.

Does Swype require "full access"?

Tbh, the apple keyboard prediction works fantastically well in my experience. I just want to try swiping.

----------

No sign of either Swype or Swiftkey on the UK App Store, or am I wrong?

It's available here. I used the link on the first page. It is £0.69.

Here you are: Swype - Keyboard by Nuance Communications

Ok got Swype working, but in messages every conversation starts off with the default Apple keyboard

Something definitely wrong with the keyboard. After adding and setting up no keyboard appears on any app just a large blank box.

FYI - I am on the GM build not the release today. May have something to do with it even though thespy have the same build number.

I was on GM had the same problem, restored to the public release and still happening...#

It's not too bad really although it would be better if you could turn off the standard keyboard so it's not easily accessible from the globe icon. Overall I'm impressed and seems just as good as the android version if not a bit slicker.

Installed SwiftKey and it gave me the same issues as Swype...no keyboards.

Gave SwiftKey full access and it worked perfectly.

Installed Swype and it broke all keyboards again.

Deleted Swype and SwiftKey and Standard keyboards worked fine.

There seems to be a number of people on Twitter also complaining of the same issue - no keyboard appearing in any apps once Swype is installed. Swype hasn't commented on the problem whatsoever so let's assume they are just as clueless at the moment.

For those that have it up and running - Were you on the Beta then GM released earlier this week or did you download the "fresh" version today?

Yeah no keyboard for Swype or SwiftKey, they just dissapear. Using iPhone 5s with GM build

This keyboard stuff is BEYOND confusing. Nothing people are talking about can be found in the app store and even if I found it I don't understand how to use it! And would I lose the new predictive texting? Grrr

One very annoying thing I've found so far is that shortcuts don't work when using the SwiftKey keyboard and there's no way to add them either...

Occasionally the 'enter' key doesn't work property with SwiftKey. That's a bit of an issue. Seems to happen more often on iPad Air.

Is there a big difference between the two?

Yes, SwiftKey is free.

...and I used it when I had an Android tablet, and it was actually quite good. Already using it, a swipe keyboard is one of those few things that was missing in iOS

Tried both Swype and Swiftkey for IOS 8 today. I prefer Swiftkey so far. I have had experience with swiping on Android and that was my one missed feature when I went back to Apple.

But my one bummer is that Both Swype and Swiftkey seem to have no access to the Mic (voice to text feature). This is a huge bummer as I have deleted the stock english keyboard nor do I really want to have to toggle between keyboards just to access Mic.

On android Swype long pressing the comma access Mic.... not on IOS

Hope this will be added.

Haha. My Android friend was always bugging me about how I can't get swype (I actually do like it). But when I say "Hey I'll get to have Swype now" I hear more about how Apple is years behind Android blahblah. Like I would've given up iOS and my whole laptop/ipad/iphone ecosystem for what's just a sort of cool keyboard gimmick.

It isn't a gimmick if executed properly and integrated into the stock, default keyboard. Both the stock Google and Windows Phone keyboards integrate Swype beautifully.
I believe that Apple will integrate this feature soon enough, like in ios9, especially if they see a ton of 3rd party keyboards getting downloaded.

How safe / secure is Swiftkey? They want access to Gmail and have full access? I.e. they can store key strokes like credit card info? passwords? seems much no?
