T-Mobile Automatically Moving Legacy Plan Customers to New Plans

I don’t know which plan is better than which, but I can say Visible has been an excellent service for me. I switched over to Visible a little over two years ago and I couldn’t be more satisfied with them.

I pay for the yearly plan-it comes out to around $31 a month for, I believe, the top tier plan. I get unlimited premium data, unlimited calls and texts, and I get 1080p streaming. Adding service to a second device costs an additional $10 a month, but whatever. The best part is, for my situation, Visible uses Verizon’s network. Living in NY, I get reliable 5g and call quality/reception no matter where I am. The few times a year I travel way upstate, I rarely lose reception, even in the most remote places.

So, I realize I sound like an ad, but I promise I’m not. I just want to give my input so people can break free from the insane prices telecom companies are charging these days for similar or inferior services. I’m also certain Visible is itching to jack up rates sooner than later.

I'll hold off until I see if and how much my bill goes up. I looked at US Mobile and right now their cheapest plan is $25 a month. I am paying the same on T-Mobile, but I get more features and unlimited hotspot (not capped to 20GB like US Mobile), which I use a lot. I get that you can save a little more by going with an annual plan, but I have 6 lines, and I am not about to drop over a grand on a service I have never had experience with.

If T-Mobile gets silly, I will definitely jump ship.

Nah they will just bind together and dictate the price that way eventually.
Here in Australia, I haven’t found a plan this cheap yet. Maybe one of those small MVNO has such plan. But the best I can see matching the price is only for new customers. At the same time, I use a LOT of data each month (100GB approx) so my choices are kind of limited in a way.

Ask them what happens if they move 2000 kilometers to another country and want to keep their number and plan from their home country, or about how fair use limits and data caps impact roaming outside of their home network. My Portuguese hotspot, for example, only works in Portugal, while my US one works anywhere in the US with no data caps because I am outside of my home area code. Tmob even gives me texting and low speed data in many countries, which works for staying in touch and making WhatsApp calls.

As you point out,the US and EU are two very different markets. It is not uncommon for someone in say, NYC, to have a number from California and not have any data caps because you are in NYC and not Cali. Once you have a number you can keep it even if you move away from the original service area, and if your carrier doesn’t offer service there you can port to one that does.

You can often find cheap plans in the US that are comparable to those in Europe, but in the end neither are better or worse, just different due to the markets.

I'm definitely not expecting to see so many US Mobile customers here. Fortunately, I'm on the legacy Unlimited All plan which comes to $25/month taxes included. Got 4 lines so that gives me 2 perks worth $15 each so currently paying only $70 after taxes for 4 lines. And this includes free international line for travel. 150GB of premium data as well.

Definitely not switching to the new premium lines just for hotspot and Apple Watch benefits. Only had to deal with CS a few times over the years but they're great. Only thing I'd like to see them implement is the 5G SA.

I've been with T-Mobile via Sprint since the beginning.

We're looking at a $60+ monthly hit from this forced change.

They clearly hate the troops.

I agree with the sentiment, but you may want to call them & see what changes are actually impacting your plan.It might not be nearly as bad as you think. I have 8 lines on mine, but after calling my plan is going up $20/month total. Not happy about this, especially after the $5/month increase last year, but will probably live with it (unless what the rep told me is not accurate). But I'll also see what I feel like in the morning. Certainly not happy tonight.

I’m on essentials ($140/mo for 5 lines unlimited). I’m hoping to dodge this increase.

Tmo can eat my… ascot if they think I’m paying more than that.

Supposedly not the watch or Home Internet, at least at this go round. It's only for voice lines & not the free lines if you have any of those. There is a rumor that the home internet is coming too, but so far that's not been part of any official announcement.

There is much more than just towers for cell service, there is nearly as important cell service priority (QCI level).

Its Unlimited Premium plans are QCI 8, which provides smoother performance during network congestion, while QCI 9 is used for its Unlimited Starter plans, which may experience slowdowns first when the network is busy.

Nah I just like having AT&T grade service for Boost Mobile rates.

I have no skin in this game (I'm a T Mobile customer, but only because they are the best provider in our area, and with the add-ons, iPad, watch, free lines, etc are still priced very competitively, even with the MVNO's) but would happily switch if someone better came along. Borderline ready to switch after today's BS.

But US Mobile gets some pretty bad reviews online. For the price, it's probably worth trying as a separate line for a month before porting over your main number. First link that pulled up on bing is : https://www.consumeraffairs.com/cell_phones/us-mobile.html

This could be a scam site, I have no idea, but just FYI. Seems like lots of people on here have had good luck with them, so maybe worth it.

I think most Europeans have no concept of just how extremely ginormous (and in some areas, sparse) the US is. It takes an awful lot of towers in relatively unpopulated areas to cover it all, towers which still cost a lot even if they're not getting much traffic. And yeah, the industry needs more regulation and more actual competition. But, we get it: your phone plans are better.

No offense, but we Americans sure love to rush into EU threads and tell Europeans how things should be (as it pertains to interactions with Apple in their region).

I'm not sure we have a leg to stand on here.

I've been a happy customer there for several years.

How did the move go from whichever carrier you were on to US Mobile? I've done my research and they look great and I can save a ton of money, but I'm afraid the porting process will be a disaster with 4 lines!!!

Yeah, cell service is local. In major metropolitan areas the major carriers all de-prioritize. I saw a HUGE difference in reliabilty/coverage/speed going from a MVNO pre-paid to switching back to post-paid from a major carrier.

Now things change, but it left me very skeptical. US Mobile seems very interesting though.

Extremely easy. It can happen in mere minutes via eSim
 
With 5 affected lines, my bill goes up by $30. But I was able to drop the $5 One Plus add on since the new plan includes 4k streaming and hot spot data. Then I was about to cancel my $12 Apple Watch line but they offered to switch it to a $5 plan instead so I guess overall, that offsets some of the price increase.

Not even sure where I'd move these lines if I do decide to leave.
