Then, I'm not sure what to think about the article. I mean, why would he say new customers need to sign up for a $20 plan in order to be "eligible"? Their website says one thing, but the article says something else. I don't know. I guess I'll find out Friday, but I'd rather know ahead of time so I can make a sound decision.

Is there anyway to try this now, like with their current tablets just to see if it would work? Or do you have to wait until Friday, regardless?

Actually it's a she. Also it's a small regional/local mag. Why would you put total faith in that over all the national pubs and T-Mobile site too?

EDIT: The tablet free data plan doesn't start until Friday and I bet the iPad will not be available for a couple of weeks (hope I'm wrong).

Oh. My apologies. Didn't realize it was a SHE. Well, I'll try on Friday, I guess. It's just going to be tight and if things don't work out at TMO, I'd like to be able to get one on ATT Next. BTW, does anyone have any experience with the ATT mobile share and have an iPad on it already? Do you pay more? It is cheaper to just go with ATT or TMO?

i called my local tmobile and they are geting ipads nov 1, so ima go get my credit checked and buy it with free 200mb to use.

Yes it is an extra $10.00 per month plus fees (mine is $1.07 month) with a 2 year commitment using your existing pool of mobile share data. AT&T will give you $100.00 bill credit if you buy a new tablet or bring one in and sign up, so it works out to be an extra $6.90 a month.

Additional $10/month line access for the iPad. Way cheaper than the $30-45/month they want for phones but then again, that $30-45 includes a hefty device subsidy. Unless you want to switch over your phone service to T-Mobile, adding the iPad to your existing Mobile Share account is cheaper.

Ever since I got a cellular iPad, I've just been using around 500MB or so on my phone. Bulk of my internet usage is on the iPad and it's really a lot more convenient not needing to tether to my phone. On long car trips, we tether the laptops and WiFi only iPads to the AT&T iPad (yep, the iPad has Personal Hotspot). Used solely as a mobile hotspot, the iPad 3 and iPad 4's battery can last for over 24 hours of continuous use. Compare that to just around 4 hours on a smartphone.

Another thing worth pointing out, you can get the iPad Air from AT&T via the AT&T Next program for $0 down and 20 monthly payments of $31.50/16GB, $36.50/32GB, $41.50/64GB and $46.50/128GB.

So, in essence then, it would be around $45 per month ($10 for the addition, and $31.50 for the EIP 16gb, plus the fees)?

Yep, that's more or less it. For me, taxes and regulatory fees on the iPad line is $1.07 per month.

So bottom line -

You CANNOT get a TMO iPad for $0/99/199 down and nothing a month with 200mb data?

You MUST HAVE an account that costs $10 or more a month?

That's what I read in the article I posted. It said new customers can sign up for a $20 monthly account in order to become eligible for the EPI. However, TMO's website seems to say otherwise. I'm guessing the only way to know is to just try it out on Friday.

Yes they have LTE but the free data they are offering on these tablets isn't LTE data. Through this offering 4G data is free

They do have LTE. They're switching the AWS 1700 band to LTE and the 1900 band to HSPA+. Very limited LTE coverage compared to Verizon and AT&T, though. T-Mobile's network is usually less congested though so if you get signal, there are times T-Mobile HSPA+ is faster than Verizon or AT&T LTE.

I'm curious where you found information that T-Mobile will be limiting the 200MB data to HSPA+. I haven't seen mention of it on their website and the press announcement I saw specifically mentioned 4G LTE.

T-Mobile is the only major national wireless provider to make tablets affordable, connected and mobile right out of the box. There’s no bait and switch, no trial period and no strings attached. T-Mobile is the only national wireless provider to offer tablet owners up to 200 MB of free 4G LTE data every month for as long as they own their tablet, even if they’re not yet a T-Mobile customer.[iii] It’s really as good as it sounds – 200 MB of free data on T-Mobile’s nationwide 4G LTE network. That means each month customers can send approximately 800 Instagram photos, more than 2,500 emails or stream 200 minutes of music – all for free.

Customers wanting more data can choose from a range of simple, affordable and flexible options – with no annual service contracts, no data overages and a blazing-fast nationwide 4G LTE network. T-Mobile offers daily, weekly and monthly options for adding 4G LTE data. For T-Mobile voice customers, ‘always-on’ tablet plans start at just $10 a month for unlimited data including 500 MB of 4G LTE data each month. Customers can add even more 4G LTE data in 2 GB increments for just $10 more per month. For customers who would rather have the flexibility of on-demand data, T-Mobile offers daily and weekly passes. Daily passes include unlimited data with 500 MB of 4G LTE data starting at just $5. The weekly passes include unlimited data with 1 GB of 4G LTE data for $10. No caps. No overages. Just simple value.

I was just about to post this. Thank you.

Consumers seem to be completely jaded by the ways of carriers. T-Mobile is doing something positive for the consumer and people are trying to find the catch. If you read the statements coming from T-Mobile, and not some random internet articles, you'll see that there is none.

All the articles has said that it's LTE data. I don't see why they would block it from using LTE as that would help you reach the 200MB limit faster and purchase more data. It wouldn't make sense to limit it to HSPA+

Also I think this is a genius move by Tmobile. There is no catch. They're banking on people trying out the 200MB of free data and testing their network. Hoping that those people will in turn be satisfied with the coverage and maybe buy additional data or bring their phones over from whatever carrier they're on.

It's also a way for them to hurt AT&T. Looking at the 3rd quarter numbers, when tablets aren't factored in AT&T actually lost subscribers. So they know that if they can entice tablet users over to their network, then it would put immense pressure on AT&T to react. That seems to be their prime target in their marketing ads.

I think I'm planning on a 32 gb air tmobile. Great incentive to get one

This is what I'm getting. I'll be a new customer to T-Mobile and the Agent on the phone said my cost (assuming my excellent credit rating) will be the cost for the hardware (the iPad) and they don't have that info yet from Apple. I've signed up for the Pre-registration to get notified when the iPads are available to order.

Payments are for two years ; not a contract for service, but a purchase agreement for the hardware, which will be $199 down and so much per month.

I'll get the 200 MB per month free for life, and if my usage goes above that amount, there will be a monthly charge for that, but no contract. They are done with service contracts. Otherwise, my only cost is paying for the iPad and these are payments without interest until it's paid off.

Even though I live sort of in the boonies in the mountains of Northern California, the 4G coverage is rated as very strong. LTE is not available, I guess because of the mountains.

What's not to like about this deal?

Does anybody know if T-Mobile stores are getting iPad Air's, And if so will the have them in stock on Friday?

Or can we only buy them online at T-Mobile/com**Apple/com?

active mobile internet account

Anyone know what is a active mobile internet account?

On the Tmobile website it says:
In order to get the 200 MB of free Starter Data, you need to have an active Mobile Internet account with T-Mobile.

It's in any carriers interest to have a a customer on LTE. HSPA/HSPA+ is too taxing on the cellular infrastructure. So I double this is true
