Seems like many other things are part of updates and it's just that some people chose to basically overlook it all and just focus on something smaller instead.

It's not Apple that's creating things, the Unicode Consortium decides on what's added, as the article explains.
I wish more people would understand that.

What's with this antiquated binary gender roles? Where's Bat-Person?

Apple will be swift in implementing these and touting them as a feature, all while OpenGL support remains massively outdated on OSX. Priorities.

How sad to see emoji, purely symbolic representations of emotions and objects created by the Japanese exclusively for the Japanese, subverted so completely by outsiders as to even include an emoji promoting the subjugation of women. We live in dark times.

Am I too damn old that I don't understand why this whole emoji bs is so important that there are mass releases and a governing body that regulates them??

Yes ;). Would you rather that Unicode was unregulated? The goal of Unicode is to supersede all other encodings, which is why emoji are included.

Also, head scarfs are outlawed in France, so that will have to be a regional emoji. ;)

Head scarfs are not outlawed in France. "Full face cover" and things close to that, are not legal in public.

It took me way too long to even figure out what that was, My eyes initially saw it as a neck hanging down with a head attached. which makes no sense I know.

Same here, and apparently many others. I was starting to wonder what meme I had missed...

There is something wrong with anyone who uses this emoji crap in a digital conversation.

Ok grandpa.

Because kids.

Adults use words and phone calls to express themselves. the kids speak in cartoons.

Ok grandpa.

Seems the only thing that is consistently being updated in every iOS update is emojis. Apple are on top of it to implement them first like it's a big major selling point.

Apple have historically been pretty slow at implementing the latest Unicode standards. Yes, they're getting quicker but it took them 5 months to implement the current Unicode 9, which hardly backs up your assertion.

I'm a man. My wife is a woman. We are both people but we have our own genders. If your post wasn't in jest then you really are a misguided buffoon.

As for the this emoji 'news'? What a waste of time and effort, especially when you realize people are being paid to create and market such crap. It's like hieroglyphics for uneducated and illiterate kiddie fools.

Emojis are getting so many its counter-productive having to search for the right one.

like how many times have the inspector emoi have been used or the caterpillar ?
There are like 4 cloud+rain emojis , let alone cloud with sun.

I think smiley, frown face are about the only 2 I have ever used...

Damn it.. I am too old, aren't I?

You are not alone.

I hope the plenary board meeting of all 110 country representatives, sufficiently educated, will make a sensible and academically justified decision about the humid poo emoji necessary to describe my feelings on reading this news.
That's happened long ago.

I'm wondering if the former engineers from the Mac Pro dept. have now been enslaved to design emojis
They use graphics designers for that. Probably one.
