The whole "get on board, or get out" thing is ridiculous

THIS.

"Tim Cook: I think it's a privilege to have people that care about the company and care enough to write, care enough to talk, and care enough to send me an email and say "you're out to lunch on this thing" and "you should be looking at this differently".

I think all of that is great, I love it"

Not to take a Samsung noted reference, but why is it that must follow the Shepard, you can't disagree with an idea . Just because Apple makes it doesn't mean the people who like Apple have to like it.

"Phones aren't supposed to have touch screens"
"mp3 players aren't supposed be flash"
"computers aren't supposed to have touch screens"
"Tablets are supposed to have full desktop OS's on them"

You clearly have learned nothing.

GTFO with that attitude. :flipbird:

I hate it. Phones are not supposed to be 16:9. Period.

Who made up that edict?

Want it larger, but don't increase any dimensions. Want it to last longer, but don't want a larger battery and want it thinner. I hate to think what all these people said about their spouse on their honeymoons.

I don't know how many times I have to say this, but iOS 6 is clearly going to use that extra screen length for something: Springboard widgets, social media streams, whatever.

They wouldn't just release a taller phone and force their developers to completely resize their apps for nothing.

Still skeptical, doubt they're dummy parts, but that statement by Tim Cook about them "locking down on security" seems to put some damper on the validity of this being the form factor.

That being said, if this is the form factor, I think it will work.

  • I've never actually liked the screen size from the beginning, having closer to a 16:9 resolution would be great. Apple always boasts about beautiful screens, why not make watching a movie seem more fluid? And more screen real estate on the top and bottom will work for me, I like to have just one or two home pages.
  • The smaller dock is something I agree with as well. Even though they're being pushed, the 30-pin is something I never liked as well. It's big and cumbersome, and a lot of money to replace. I know this will cause issues with 3rd party products, but aren't the capabilities of Airplay and Bluetooth getting beefier and beefier? Soon phones don't even need to connect to speakers at all.
  • The back, to me, doesn't look quite enticing. I'm more curious of what it's made of. Looks like the 'metal', or whatever it is, is on top of the color finish. Textured, wireless charging, reception, weight, whatever the cause, I'm really curious why it's designed that way.
  • I like that the 3.5mm jack is on the bottom. I constantly plug my phone in when I can, and if I want to listen to music, it feels like a constant tug-o-war between both cords. It's the natural way to put it in your pocket as well. From holding phone up, not moving hand positioning at all except directly down into your pocket.
  • Speaker grille has what seems like more open area, thank you. I could use louder speakers.
  • Please, for the love of everything, be 4G capable.

That's all I have.

I don't know about you guys, but with 3D printer being readily available I don't put much faith in leaks of this type. Especially if they're plastic parts. Anybody with a $500 3D printer, entry level CAD knowledge, and black ABS could have made this in a few hours. I know that because I could if I wanted to. Maybe I should start my own "leaks" page with fake parts :D

News to me that they can do glass parts and aluminum - which, if you check more on the second tab of the news, you will find there... Also: The black one you refer to has some nice acid imprints on the back. Yet again, yes, you can fake everything. Question is how far would someone go to do that actually? Printing codes on it, etc? I don't know... I rather go with it is either a prototype design or the real thing. The mass of different leaks suggests the latter.

Any wider and it won't easily fit in a pocket.

You're kidding right. Unless you wear skinny tight jeans you should have no probably fitting a 4-4.3" phone in your pocket.

My wallet is wider than my phone and it goes in and out of my front pocket no problem. I pocket carry a P238 from time to time and it slides in no problem.

Trust me a wider phone will fit no problem

Or the opposite: He thinks there is a problem because there are so many leaks! If this stuff is real and comes from (pre-)production, I would be trying to lock down on security as well - Apple wants to sell as many iPhone 3GS, 4, and 4S as possible for top dollar. If everybody sees that there is the next one on the horizon, they will just hold back and wait because the price will probably be the same for a better product.

I'm quite interested to see how they pull off integrating apps of the old aspect ratio with this new ratio. I think I would have preferred the same ratio, only larger, so I get a larger keyboard in portrait mode (how I use my phone for typing).

Exactly. I don't see a benefit to a larger screen if it's just TALLER. What - now i can see 2 extra lines of contacts without having to scroll?? Just doesn't make sense. I usually am a big defender of Apple's design choices, because they are usually well-thought-out. They will have to do a pretty good job to sell me on this being an improvement.

Let's get something straight. Just because I do not choose the voice my opinion often doesn't mean I don't have one. Sorry I don't dedicate my life to this forum. Also if you look in the past when the iPhone 4 was leaked many people disliked it. Did Apple change their road map? NO. They went on to release the same design for an additional generation. Apple does what Apple wants because consumers are idiots and they don't know what they want until they have it. Apple didn't become one of the most profitable companies in the world by reading MacRumors.

Look, I'm not saying you don't have a right to your own opinion, but the way you go about it is just wrong.

If you honestly like this new phone, great, buy it!

All I was saying, is that people need to chill out when it comes to Apple products. Saying it's the greatest thing since sliced bread even though you have not seen in person is ridiculous. Saying that you need to either "get on board, or get out" is just insulting to the people that use the products.

What I would like is for people to make up their own mind and not worship the temple of apple with no thought in their head about how they feel regarding the product themselves.

You seem to be personally offended by my opinion, and that's okay. We are not all here to make friends. What I am here for personally is to voice my opinion on the flaws of the upcoming product and suggest an alternative path.

When all is said and done, I do not believe that this will be the new iPhone. When you take into consideration the past releases, there have been leaks which apple purposely released in order to find out who the rat was in their operation.

And I might add it also allows for mirroring the display to fit the HDTV without any black bars on the TV.

What, can't the iPhone do that already? One would think if you double-tapped the video so it goes into the zoomed mode, you'd get the same result on a HDTV?

Just made one that looks exactly like that from a piece of fiberglass in my garage. I'll be leaking the video to 9to5 mac in the morning. I may even work on a backplate out of sculpty later.

My original post was simply stating that for someone to skip a generation of phone based on a screen size change is ludacris because Apple is so determined to avoid fragmintation they will not revert back to a smaller screen size after forcing their developers to adjust to the new one. And as far as your pervious comment goes what did you expect when you refer to me as a "Newbie" if that is the case then what does that make you? Considering that your account was created 3 months after mine... Grow up.

A wider screen would be really good for games with onscreen controls as it would leave a lot more real estate not covered by your thumbs. This could be a shift to make the device more game friendly then anything else.

Home Button

Just measured the home button on my iPhone 4s and it turns out it is exactly 10 mm tall. Coincidence?

I am guessing the leaked prototype is an old prototype keeping fingers crossed for iPhone 5 with no home button.

Why don't they come up with some sort of press and hold or any other configuration for the on/off switch on top of the device? And lose the home button completely?

It looks like a fricking remote. I hate it. Phones are not supposed to be 16:9 . Period. Sad thing is I'll probably still buy one when it comes out. Such is life when you are married to Apple's ecosystem.

BS, im married to it too, but if this is true new iPhone, only question I will ask to myself will be: Android or WP?, probably will try a WP, this has better ecosystem potencial to my opinion.

For nothing? You clearly have never designed an app before. Positioning and sizing content to fit within the current resolution of the iPhone can be a challenge, especially if there is a lot of content. Scaling up for this reason alone would be an enormous relief for app designers / developers and greatly improve the user-experience for customers.

I started in web design and development a long time ago (before everyone and their grandma entered) and remember the standard screen resolution was something ridiculous like 800x600. It limited the creative possibilities. As the resolution went up, the quality of websites improved with it. We'll see the same thing happen (to an extent) with phones.

More space = more creative possibilities.

Really don't understand why they would go towards this design when the perfect iPhone 5 design was leaked by the case manufacturers prior to the iPhone 4S launch.
