Nope, the edge of the touchpad still exhibit lagging issues.
On the laptops I own all the way back tp 2010 (yeah it still works) the tap-to-click is desensitized on the edges, that's so you don't get accidental clicks, like from a palm. I think this is how it's suppose to work. Also, when the user repeats on the edge then they know it's on purpose and the click gets registered.

I do not agree, if it were so, the second click would work, but it is the third click or after a few milliseconds. In addition, with the Intel model it does work 100%

Hi all! I have the same problem.

I called Apple support, they said that this bug is common and they know about it. They also said that it is a software error (not a hardware one). And it will be fixed in the next update. I would like this to be true...

Let's hope so

Seconded. My MBP2016 with touchbar clicks work on all edges.

Further to my last post….

Apple collected my MBP and two days later I received notice that it had arrived for repair. A couple of hours later I got another notice informing me that the laptop “repair” was complete and return shipping had been arranged. All seemed a bit to fast as given the issues I was expecting a top case change at a minimum but ok…

Once back in the UK I opened the box and took out the repair sheet, next to no meaningful information on it. Opened the protective bag and took the MBP out and could see that the top case / keyboard had not been changed but the trackpad was a little “off centre” so seemed like something was done.

Results after booting up and completing the onboarding (without appleID etc):

- same tap to click issue (clean account as SSD was wiped before sending back)
- keyboard was not changed (keys were shiny from my original usage)
- trackpad was misaligned / off centre to the right

Straight on the phone to Apple Care and gave them a reminder about their previous promise to refund should the repair not solve the issues, the “new” agent tried to side step. Have been pretty calm for the months I have been dealing with this but finally lost it! I was then passed to customer relations who informed me that the previous agent should never have promised a refund and that he would need to take this offline with his management as I demanded he listen to the previous telephone calls. A couple of days later he called back with collection details and for the first time in 20+ years I dont have an Apple computer! Complete and utter joke, made worse by Apple not wanting to refund the AppleCare at the moment also.

Really hope the issue is resolved in the future as I desperately need a MBP for FCP and LPX etc etc but for the moment my media works are on hold while I make do with an older iPad Pro.

Just posting to say it’s still broken. It’s horrendous and it looks like Apple is not going to do anything about it either!

Is this also the thread where we complain about pinch-zoom intermittently stopped working? I shouldn't have to dig into OS internals and write my own workarounds for basic hid functionality. (Fyi, the workaround is enabling/disabling pinch-zoom in sys pref. You can make it nicer by avoiding gui and doing it via private syspref framework, then use BTT to bind it to corner click). And it's absolutely not a hardware issue, it affects magic trackpad as well. Raw touch events are processed fine, issue is in their MultitouchHID plugin.

I don't use tap to click but if I did, I'd probably just write my own tap-to-click at this point if it's unreliable. just combine multitouch private framework with some quartz event source, and you'll get something more reliable than apple's.

Given that this utter train wreck of an OS has now made not only my 14" M1 Pro but also my old 2018 13" MBP difficult to use in between all the many trackpad issues, regular USB disconnect issues and all the other crap that seems to come with Monterey I'm actually at the point where if I wasn't already so invested in the Apple Ecosystem I would genuinely sell off both of these machines cheap just to be rid of them now. My 14" MBP actually feels like a gigantic waste of two grand and I wish I'd just kept my old 2018 as my main machine (and not installed Monterey). Truly getting to the end of my tether with Apple now. It hasn't "just worked" in a Loooong time.

The fact that for less money I could have bought the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 just makes this thing even more disappointing. The main reason I stay with Apple is the OS but as that now seems to be a disaster I may just jump ship to Windows. What am I actually losing at this point, really? So this year I have no choice to to re-assess whether the Ecosystem is still worth the now considerable hassle of MacOS.

I experience the same behaviour with unreliable zoom with track pad. I also have problems with tap to click on my 14 mbp m1.

I can't believe they finally acknowledged it!!! Horrah!

I have problems with pinch to zoom since the first day I installed macOS Monterrey and I still have this problem on a new Mac. Hope it will be fixed soon but at this point my hopes aren't really high considering I have this issue since last october. Its been so long that I can't remember how reliable zoom gestures is 🤣

Has anyone tried the beta version of next osx release to see if the issues are resolved there?

I haven't had any tap-to-click issues on my 16" M1-Pro, but I'm glad there is a fix planned for everyone who is having an issue.

Is this really true? You can CMD+Tap to open new windows in browsers without any failures (or select files in Finder)? (I am beginning to suspect it is actually a hardware problem, because there were models in an Apple Store I went to that didn't have the issue a while back).

Yep. No tap to click issues. T2C works just like it did on my 2014 MBP.

I'm happy to help y'all troubleshoot so ask away.

Tks... Can u please try open a new safari tab with command + tap in the edge of the trackpad?
I CMD + Tapped the "+" button all around all four edges/sides and corners and there were no issues. CMD + Tapping on links also worked.

For further clarity, if my finger was only half on the trackpad it wouldn't work, but provided the full pad of my finger was on the trackpad T2C worked as expected.

Additionally, three finger drag from the sides and corners also worked.

I don't know if it is, but if three finger drag worked for you, but T2C didn't then something else is going on because the trackpad is registering taps.
