Here is my guess/hope:

Screen size will be 4.5-4.7 inches.
Resolution will stay the same as on the iPhone 5.

(In the same way, that iPad Mini and iPad Air share the same resolution).

... and I'll buy one. My fingers would love it, if everything was simply a bit bigger.

I may like like these renderings but I do like the concept. Edge to edge.

Also as an original iPhone user and currently with the 5S, I welcome a larger screen. I have no problem with the icons though it'd be useless to add more inches to the screen without any other additional features.

Perhaps borderless displays is the next step, I'd like it. But the curved back seems veeeery uncomfortable and inappropriate...

huh? did you ever have a 3G/S? curved plastic back, completely comfortable. more comfortable than the 4 and up in many consumer opinions, mine included.

I think it would make sense for Apple to reserve the upper parts of the screens for widgets that you normally don't click. Just to preserve their claim of the perfect size to reach with your thumb.

They already do that they call them iAds, why do you think they went to the taller format in the first place.

A new rendering of the iPhone 6 presented in multiple sizes has been released by Italian designer Federico Ciccarese. The concept images give an accurate size comparison of the existing iPhone 5s next to a 4.7-inch iPhone and a 5.5-inch iPhone, two sizes that have been rumored for Apple's next-generation smartphone.

Ciccarese does take some liberties with the look of Apple's next iPhone, however, incorporating both a tapered back and an almost bezel-less display. While early iPhone 6 rumors indicated the iPhone would have a curved design, more recent rumors from The Wall Street Journal have refuted that claim, and no mention has been made of a tapered design. As far as the bezels go, there have yet to be any indications that Apple is planning on an edge-to-edge display.

Though the iPhone renderings incorporate app icons that are similar in size to the icons of the existing iPhone 5s, it remains unclear how Apple will handle icons on a larger display. It is possible that rather than allowing a huge number of icons on a screen, Apple will instead increase the spacing of the icons as it has done on the iPad and the iPad mini.

Apple has been experimenting with a range of screen sizes for the next-generation iPhone since early 2013, with size rumors varying from 4.7 to 5.7 inches.

It is widely believed that Apple has plans to release two separate phones in that size range, continuing with the dual-iPhone lineup it introduced with the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c. One phone may be on the smaller end of the spectrum near 4.7 inches, while the second could enter "phablet" territory at a size above five inches.

While Apple has plans to stick with a dual-iPhone lineup, The Wall Street Journal has said the company will not continue producing a plastic-shelled phone like the iPhone 5c. Instead, both iPhone 6 models will include metal outer casings similar to the iPhone 5s and neither will include a curved display.

The bottom angled view pictures look Great, any mock ups on what a 4:3 aspect ratio would look like?

I always assumed the "curved glass" rumors simply meant that the little plastic lip that protrudes around the screen would be gone, replaced by a rounded-off edge to the glass itself. (Nothing to do with a curved display, then.)

Please no. It makes the phone look cheap, a la the Nexus 4. The flat almost edge to edge glass gives the iPhone (Nexus 5, Xperia Z, and those alike) a more sleek look.

Bezel-less displays are a terrible idea and a usability nightmare. I couldn't imagine how many false positive touches you would get by simply gripping the phone with one hand. This is the same reason I hate capacitive buttons on android phones.

GL

Software can probably overcome this, but just imagine all the people who drop their phones... displays (not just the glass) would break at a record rate. This would be such a disaster for Apple, people would complain so much.

What's the advantage of a curved display, exactly?

The only thing I can come up with is the possibility if minimizing the appearance of the bezel along the sides, if it can kind of be angled out if the field of view by the curved surface.

Other than that (which may or may not be a real rationale), why would I want the touchscreen to be curved rather than planar?

Bigger, but not a copy

I would be all for a slightly larger iPhone. I think that people coming up with possible concepts is cool. I just have a hard time believing that apple is going to make a larger iPhone that looks like an HTC rip off. They are dealing with enough litigation as it stands.

these mockups look awful.

absolutely!

they just need to give it up already this design will never go with apple, they no longer design well, they lost their touch, why don't these "designers" open up shop and compete with apple already, there isn't REAL competition out there so apple is now a lazy tub of consumer lard.

ew............... the top and bottom of the bezel are still too fat, i just want a piece of glass on top to tell you the truth, no borders and big stupid buttons anywhere, i hate buttons now with a passion, everything should be blue tooth or something don't plug anything in, make it just a piece of crystal and i'll give you 8000 for a stupid phone.

I feel like the eventual direction of design is to get rid of everything around the screen. The screen is the hero, it should take priority. But how? I think software engineering of accidental touch recognition could go a long way. The biggest obstacles are the home button, Touch ID, the camera and speaker. I think a software home button could be an eventual possibility. You could have a display with a layer of LEDs in a circle under the glass that stay lit always (unless it detects that it's face down or in a pocket/purse) representing the home button, and with a sapphire display you could integrate Touch ID right into the display. With glass you can pass through sound waves with a specially engineered speaker. The trickiest part is the front facing camera. Perhaps you could have some crazy micro lens array on the display that puts together a low res image similar to the resolution of the current camera around 720p? I mean eventually these have to be all display—maximizing usable space while maintaining pocket-ability

I miss the way the more rounded shape of the 3GS felt in my hand. The hard edges of the 4 and 5 series have the squared edges which are not as nice for a device you hold. I'd like to see a return of some sort of shape that fits your hand better.

Amen.

If it were at least 9.7 inches, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Make calls with an iPad? I think not.

iPad mini has a higher PPI then the iPad Air. If that were the same for the new iPhone, we would have lower PPI.

looks like a aluminum moto x. 5.5" screens are way to big. I just picked up a 5s after using a nexus 5 for a few months and once you get used to the tiny screen I like being able to use it one handed. I think 4.7" is the best sized for normal functions.
it makes sense if apple releases a bunch of different sized iPhone 6's. Samsung has been pumping out different size phones to see what sticks.

Side note it shouldn't of taken apple this long for a bigger screen. Samsung got a huge market share mainly, because people (who don't no the difference between iOS and android) saw the big screen and wanted to go with that.

I personal (not that it matters what I want) think that it would be nice to get ride of the top front bezel and take it all the way to the edge of the iPhone, leaving a slight gap between the screen and the edge of the speaker, the FaceTime camera, and the prox sensor all in a thin line. May not work logistically within the phone, but I think it'd look cool. I like the borderless screens.

Looks useless and amateur.

Solid metal rear doesn't take into account the need for antennas.

iPhone 5/5S outer rim is broken into multiple peice, two act as dual diversity cellular antennas. The glass panels on the back allow for wifi, bluetooth, and gps antenna.

Most renders like this are amateur. And boring too as all they do is take the current design and make it bigger and the bezels smaller.

I seem to be in the minority here, but I actually like the curved, anodized aluminum back, as well as the edge-to-edge screen. Very HTC One-esque, which is, in my opinion a good thing. As far as build quality and dimensions, the HTC One is the best on the market. If it ran iOS, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

I don't like the plastic and between the front and back. Cheapens the look for me.

The one thing that has always bothered is when I pick up my phone I always have to look at it to determine which side is top and bottom. It would be nice if you could feel a differerance just by picking it up. If I recall my 3gs wasn't as bad but when the design changed to 4 and above this was more noticeable.

I know this sounds silly, am I alone on this?

Yes, you're alone. There is only a home button and an earpiece on one side and they are opposite each other. It's easy to tell by feel where you're holding the phone.
Since it's a touch phone though, you're going to have to look at it within a few microseconds anyway to do anything other than activate Siri, so does it even matter?

Is this guy a friend of MacRumors? He's got no track record in the field of consumer electronics, he can just use Maya or Rhino or maybe just Photoshop. These "concepts" have no grounding in anything that's likely or even possible. Look at his concept for the iPhone 5 that was supposed to be worn on the back of your hand! Unlikely anyone would make that and it certainly wouldn't be Apple.
The only thing the guy's actually done is make a 3D printed mechanical hand which isn't exactly novel and yet he expects VCs to fidn his website and fund its development.
I hope he's not having to pay too much for the bandwidth this publicity costs him...
