If a 4.5" or 5" phone is released than I hope they don't add 5 or more icons per row. It just looks messy. I would much rather the extra space be vacant so we can appreciate our wallpapers.

1. I like the 4.7, the form factor increase is not too much

2. Big risk to ditch the 4", many want a big screen but many don't

3. I like more icons on each home screen, more efficient

4. I'd like an option to display the webpage etc as scaled up (bigger, easier to read) AND non scaled so that you see more

5. I'd like an option when you move icons that they do not auto locate on the grid, so you can leave empty spaces for wallpaper

6. 5.5? Encroaching on the iPad Mini. I doubt it will be a big seller, and some of the sales will be instead of an iPad Mini, so a 5.5 may not produce much profit

I always assumed the "curved glass" rumors simply meant that the little plastic lip that protrudes around the screen would be gone, replaced by a rounded-off edge to the glass itself. (Nothing to do with a curved display, then.)

I always thought they meant like the iPod Nano was curved that one (or two) year. (Which I never liked).

Remember though, this is a rumor...

The one thing that has always bothered is when I pick up my phone I always have to look at it to determine which side is top and bottom. It would be nice if you could feel a differerance just by picking it up. If I recall my 3gs wasn't as bad but when the design changed to 4 and above this was more noticeable.

I know this sounds silly, am I alone on this?
I always know the orientation due to home button is indented.

Removing the edges would be a bad idea. How would you make a decent case for a phone with no edges?

I would be all for a slightly larger iPhone. I think that people coming up with possible concepts is cool. I just have a hard time believing that apple is going to make a larger iPhone that looks like an HTC rip off. They are dealing with enough litigation as it stands.

I like the look of the HTC, I'm sure Apple has a patent for it already or has bought them out.

Why would the home screen on the bigger iphone have more icons when the ipad doesn't.

The question is: why is this not a option in the settings? Let the user decide the number of icons same as the user decides the font size.

I still don't see why people like 5inch + sized screens on mobile phones.

Its still portable but allows for less eye strain and more usability for some apps.

As you get older you may understand more.

It would be nice if a phone maker would make one strong enough to where you didn't need a case. Its a shame to cover them up.

That's what I tell all of my friends that keep getting the Note 3. I will say though that every single one of them absolutely loves them.

There is the answer, they love them. Others don't, so they won't buy, thats not a problem. Choice.

Aside from the obvious point that a larger screen is nicer to use, more to see. Many use the "phone" function relatively little, so for those, its not a mobile phone, its a mobile internet device that can also make calls.

The larger device is less convenient, but the convenience of a larger screen for those, is more important.

I don't think we need more screen estate. We need bigger text and icons. 4x6 grid is fine.

As a Note 3 owner I have to disagree with this. The one thing I really wish my Note 3 had is a fifth column of icons. That way I'd be able to reach just as many apps with one hand as I could on a smaller phone- and the extra column on the far side could be reserved for apps that I don't use as often.

What do you have against choices? I'm sure they would keep the current size

What do you have to take it so personal?
I was only stating the wish of those of us who does not have the hand a size of King Kong.

Do you recall what happened when the iPhone 5 come out?
Only 1 size, and if you want anything smaller, you can only have last year's model.
Same thing when 5s came out, the other choice is 5c or 4S.

We are dealing with a company not very good at offering choices on something so basic...(I am looking at the iOS 7 icons again...)

I've read that the lawyers wanted them to look the same by default, so they could claim a consistent look and feel in court. That's why the iPad oddly comes with only four icons in the dock by default.

Because it's not just a phone.

Are you getting it yet? :)

They have managed to have laptops of various sizes coexist with each other. They have 2 sizes of iPads.

The trap they have to avoid falling into, is having the smaller screens as the second class citizens as far as specs are concerned. Ideally, the only difference between the models would be related to the screen.

I don't see why the market can't handle the regular size screen as well as a larger screen. Not sure about a budget model..Apple has proven with the 5C that they are not very good with budget models.

Some ergonomics would be nice, bigger screen is a must. If the iPhone doesn't evolve beyond an icon manager with a tiny lame home screen, then I'm going to bail on it. I will have my iPad for iOS stuff and will get a Windows Mobile phone, can't stand Android. Really hope the 6 is something amazing because I have not seen a single reason to upgrade from my 4S and seeing as though outside the USA, we have to pay full price for phones, I'm not dropping 800$ for an upgraded shell.

Because the screen is the viewport and the main interface of the phone.

Phones used to be nothing more than a speaker and a microphone.

But now the big beautiful screen is the centerpiece of EVERYTHING you do on your phone.

And yes... a 5"+ phone is still mobile.

I think Apple need to be inventive and go to five columns of icons. It's crazy but it's the 21st century after all.

That said, I think the mock ups are the ugliest I've seen in ages.

Re

No matters how it looks iPhone is preeminent smartphone so its going to sell and i should try it...!!!

If the screen goes edge to edge then it would be impossible to grip without activating edge icons/touch areas.

As if the iphone now doesnt already exclude certain touches.

Its possible to do this, Its what apple should be doing and trying notmaking it 1 mm thinner.

The 4.7" render is the perfect size. The 5.5" looks 'off' and is too narrow to be that big. I'm also digging that render at the bottle of the article with the curved back.

Apple: You make a 4.7" iPhone and I promise you I will be back over to iOS from Android.

I see where you are looking at.
If they can actually keep the spec the same for both screen version, and the smaller version is only marginally bigger than it is currently, I am all for it.
But again, I am not very optimistic about them giving us these choices...(My pal is still moaning the loss of the 17" MacBook Pro...)

You know what, the Apple's "budget" model, iPhone 5c kind of reminds me of the Cadillac Cimarron...:D

I'm not American, so unsure of the Cimmaron, but the 5C is a fail. It's a 5, very slightly enhanced with a plastic case and not much cheaper. Keep the 4", add a 4.7 and sorted.same specs.

Keep the 4S in production for the medium end

I think ios 7 needs the power of at least a 5 so not sure how well the 4S would be received (buying a 'new' phone and realizing you can't use several features of the os is a bitter pill to swallow).

My ideal lineup would be 2 iPhone 6 devices with varying display sizes, the largest being close to 5", and the 5S as the budget model. I'd drop the 5C.

The 6 specs should be identical except for systems related to the screen. Maybe that would involve slightly higher clock speed or video memory.
