Why no just buy it at Target instead of being a complete moron?

How about you consider the fact that I can't cancel my Apple order before you call someone a moron?

I am buying it from Target, but I already ordered it from Apple and it already shipped, so I can't cancel the order.

So return it unopened and buy from Target. Being mad at Apple for not price matching - when they don't advertise doing so! - and then intentionally opening a product you plan to return is just... beyond childish.

what is wrong with opening an item to test it out for 14 days? this is Apple's return policy isn't it? a part of their excellent customer service.

I don't think it's a matter of someone being upset if Apple won't price match. It's a matter of the inconsistent service. When several people post on here that Apple offered them a free smart cover or refunded them for theirs they'd already ordered, people that were turned away are going to probably be a little upset about it. If Apple isn't willing to match what Target is offering, I don't see any problem with a person returning the item and then buying from Target to get the better deal. However, I can see your point in the person returning the item to Apple unopened after making sure they're able to get one from Target.

couldn't have said it better. this isn't about being mad at apple. i just don't understand why they can give something to some buyers while nothing to others.

i will return the ipad to apple as soon as i can get one from target, but until then i will open and use the new ipad.

entitlement? i did not ask for anything from apple, i told them the situation i was in and what they could do about it.

can you explain to me how it makes sense for Apple to advise me to use the ipad as i wish for 14 days, and then return it since target is offering it for a better deal? they are losing money on shipping and restocking the iPad which would probably amount to more than what a smart cover is worth.

Feeling lucky...

Was reading another post about getting Apple to change the shipping on the LTE minis from standard to next day and wanted to give it a try. Figured, if I was calling, I might as well ask again about the $40 Target price match (after being denied 4 times yesterday). I told the CSR I understood they didn't price match, but is there something they could do about accessories. She put me on hold and came back saying she could offer me a smart cover and asked what color I wanted. Score.

Then I asked her if she could credit me for the cover I had already purchased under the Mini LTE order I had placed and she said she would credit my card for it. DOUBLE score.

But alas, she was not able to change the shipping on the LTE mini :(

Keep trying if you get denied and be nice to the CSRs.

They didn't tell you to open it and then return it. That is a lie. They probably did suggest that you return it unopened. Why the hell would you open it to begin with other than to be a douche nozzle?

Sealos, thanks for the advice.

I just got off the phone with Apple and they are crediting my card $39 for the mini iPad cover that already shipped. Initially, the CSR said there wasn't anything he could do and even went so far as to (politely) tell me that maybe I should buy the iPad from Target on the 2nd. I said I already pre-ordered from Apple and understood Apple doesn't discount iPads but maybe he could do something about the cover, an accessory.

I even mentioned that I read on a forum that other folks were having success with this approach. After the obligatory couple of minutes on hold, he came back and said they will credit me the $39 as a 'one time good will gesture.' :D

Success

I just called and spoke to a very American Josh who stated that he had previously sent customers a smart cover if they mentioned the Target deal and were upfront and honest about their intentions when calling (not in so many words mind you). I will be receiving an engraved smart cover for free. In my case it worked to my advantage that I didn't play the CSR and was upfront and honest. No being put on hold while he talked to a supervisor, no "I cannot do that". He simply acknowledged that they do not price match but since I was honest and upfront he would be happy to send me a smart cover. Total call time: <5 minutes.

i'm not opening it just for the hell of it, i'm opening it because i'm going to get it from Apple before i can from Target.

look at it this way.....if you purchased something from Apple, but found it for cheaper somewhere else within 14 days....do you think it's wrong for returning your opened iPad from Apple to get the cheaper one else where?

I recieved a copy of this week's Target store ad flyer via email. The $40 Target gift card deal only applies to the iPad 2 and iPad 3. It definitely does not apply to the iPad 4 or iPad Mini.

It will be very interesting to see if anyone DOES actually manage to buy a 4 or mini and get the gift card. I have no doubt whatsoever that Target had/has no intention of discounting two brand new products with a history of high demand.

All these people who claim they're going to return their mini to Apple when they get one at Target with the gift card - Good luck with that.

The flyer says all ipads. The ad is good until the nov 3, the new ipads are in the store nov 2. This promotion was done without knowing the new ipads would be out on the 2nd but since it clearly states all ipads they fall in line with the promotion.

Again its all dependent on your target getting the ipad4/mini you want on the 2nd or finding another store that will price match.

Just got off the phone, they refunded my Smart Cover and sent me one pf those coupons. Thanks for the heads up!

Can confirm the iPad mini is excluded from the $40 gift card deal. Was just at my local Target and they had a sign posted saying the deal would NOT be honored for the mini..."sorry for the inconvenience". I assume the 4th gen iPad is still part of the deal since it didn't say otherwise.

I called Apple customer service twice about this deal. I'm 0 for 2 so far and have been very polite as well. They just tell me to return the ones I ordered and go ahead with the Target deal.

So awesome!

wow I'm really impressed with how happy these guys were to help me out! I was definitely considering doing a return and buying it at Target but they credited me for the cover which is beyond fantastic. Great thread, great experience talking to CS and I'm that much more excited for Friday.

This is my first post on this forum. Just had to share.

:D:D:D:D:D:D

Update: Maybe I spoke too soon, but I don't see anything on my order status page showing a credit of $39. The gentleman on the phone said I would see it there...

Gave it a few tries, they didn't budge.

Said they don't price match, and whatever deal Target has going on only Target can honor. They also told me this is only for iPad 2/3, not the mini.

Out of curiosity... Anyone been able to get a free cover AND $40 off their iPad? Or anyone who got a free cover earlier try calling back and asking for $40 off to match the target price?
Not sure if they're able to put comments on ppl's accounts as to y the price of the cover was $0.00 in the first place...

Tried calling and talking to a rep, they didnt go for it..so i asked to speak to a manager. different guy came on, and he was actually pretty rude.(strange for apple) and says he spoke to a manager and they do not price match and NEVER give anything away for free. I told him that my friend got a free smart cover (didnt happen) and i also read it online. he said "Im aware of THAT site and dont trust what you read on THAT rumor site" in a very stand offish way. He said my friend must have talked to someone who was new and didnt know what they were talking about.
I didnt give up. So i called again and got transferred to the CSR and explained to them that I also had to return my iphone due to hardware issues and also had to remove my 40$ screen protector only to have to buy a new one. She was very apologetic about that and also the target deal and OFFERED to give me a smart cover without me even having to mention it! Very nice. I feel validated and warm inside.

Just thought i would share the one operators view of THIS site. Wish i could convey how snotty it was. But they made up for it.
Thanks apple. Now i can tell me real friends that apple is a still a better company than any android selling company.
