All iPads Target and 40 dollar gift card on any iPad= Best deal?

Bought two iPads, an iPad 4 for my mom and an iPad mini for my son.

Called Apple, first guy talked to his supervisor, shot me down. Called second time, I got a woman, I told her about the target ad and asked her if they would throw in some covers. I was polite and told her that if she can't, I understand, and thanked her for her time anyway. She put me on hold to talk to her supervisor for a good five minutes and came back and said, would you like smart case or Smart Cover. Got a free smart case for the iPad 4 and a Smart Cover for the mini. Thanks you guys! Saved me $88 plus tax!

FYI: the first time, I said I ordered an iPad mini. The second time, I just said iPad. That might have helped because the first guy told me that supervisors are not willing to offer deals with the mini because its so new and selling out. I suspect that second woman just told her supervisor that the customer ordered an iPad and didn't mention that it was a mini.

I didnt give up. So i called again and got transferred to the CSR and explained to them that I also had to return my iphone due to hardware issues and also had to remove my 40$ screen protector only to have to buy a new one. She was very apologetic about that and also the target deal and OFFERED to give me a smart cover without me even having to mention it! Very nice. I feel validated and warm inside.

Just thought i would share the one operators view of THIS site. Wish i could convey how snotty it was. But they made up for it.

I hate to say this, but these days most people just feel so entitled to thing they don't deserve. We have some serious entitlement issues, and this is not just on this site. It's every where.

I enjoy this forum and last year when HP decided to have a fire sale with the HP tablet, I heard about it first on this forum and read many comments from users having success with certain stores and websites. For moments like these its nice having this large community to alert you of some special deals.

But this entire thread of people calling repeatedly and wasting time because they feel entitled to a $40 Smart Cover that they already purchased is a little baffling to me.

If you called once and had success, good for you, but I'm scratching my head at those who can't take no for an answer and continue to call. In the end, is it really that worth it?

i called once and was shot down and i didn't bother calling again. the CSR told me to just return it to Apple and buy it from Target, and yet, you still say i have entitlement issues?

Looking at the Target ipad app, it states 'sold online only'. Might want to call a store to see if they will be available... Otherwise, you may just end up getting the clearance Haloween candy...

I've now been to two Target's in my area and both stores have signs saying that the new iPad with Retina display and the new Mini will be in stores beginning at 8am on Friday Nov 2.

However there's another sign right next to it that says the Mini is EXCLUDED from the $40 GC offer. Should work if you want the 4th Gen iPad though.

Yes. something i didnt deserve, but yet was told to return it and go to target. Did i not deserve it there either?

No one put a gun to their head. I can just return it and go to target, which in the end will cost them more. They are clearly offering it to some customers and not others. Yes, i'm taking apple down $40 at a time!!! TAKE THAT!
i say you use the word "entitle" a little more in your post. once a sentence wasn't enough.

This was my second time calling. The first time I was turned down after several minutes on hold. Sarah on the other hand was super sweet.

At first she verified the special on Target.com Then asked for my order number and asked what I would like. I told her I was interested in the smart case, even if I had to pay the $10 difference. She added the $50 iPad Smart Case - Polyurethane - Dark Gray to my order free of charge, and will actually get here before the iPad itself does (cellular 4.) :D

It didn't seem like she spoke to a supervisor or anybody else for permission either - it's my lucky day it seems. CS quality is extremely inconsistent..

Oh yeah, also thanked me for being a loyal Apple customer. :apple:

Crazy part is that they say clearly in their ad that ANY iPad is included with the deal!

Congrats! I just noticed you bought the iPad 4....would this work with the refurb 3, or it just depends on the rep?

I doubt it will work with a refurb, unless Target sells refurbs as well. Reason I was able to get it was because I could simply cancel my order and buy it through Target instead.
 
I just called and asked if they were aware of the Target add and they said yes. I asked if they could match the price, she looked the add up and said she would be happy to refund the cost of both of my smart covers, but could not discount the minis . I thanked her and we talked about the weather and how she has a mini on order as well and is excited to get it. I asked how much it cost her, she laughed and told me she would never say! Super easy if you are polite.

Talk about hell and back. After an hour, I still received No free ipad cover, but i was able to get a coupon because my CSR flipped out.

I pre-ordered 2 ipad mini 16gb last friday and after reading about the target offer decided to try my luck. After calling 3 times on Monday and 2 times yesterday I decided to have my girlfriend call for me last night, thinking maybe they would succumb to her girlish charm. On her first attempt she spoke to Brad who explained that he could not match the target ad but he would send us the coupon for 15% off an order of $1000 or more. Well as happy as I was to get a coupon at I decided to have her give it one more shot today. She called and spoke to Amanda who after a few minutes on hold told her she would give us 2 smartcovers for free and add them to our order immediately. I checked my order status page and sure enough both dark grey covers are now on there at $0 dollar.

I know some people are saying that this is a lost cause or that we aren't entitled to anything free but I say if you have the time, and are willing to get rejected a few times. A couple of phone calls is worth $80 in free cases. Good luck

They don't double the price, but they do mark it up and include cheap accessories to attempt to justify it. I thought about it with the iPad 3, but ended up finding one for cheap on Craigslist. Expect to pay no less than $700 for a 16GB wifi with them.

Clearly you missing the whole point about not asking (or bitching) about what's not yours, and you lied to get your way. But, hey, if tricking apple in giving you something $40 will make your day then so be it. This has nothing to do with you taking apple down $40 at a time.

I called yesterday and was offered a credit back (refund) on my two smart covers for the mini (bought two).

For those that are in a similar situation - has anyone seen a change on their order status ($0 instead of $39.99)? From what I can see in my online account there is no change.

I will wait a few days and home to see a refund hit the credit card, but had hoped I could see something in the online account to confirm the refund.
