I just called Apple twice. I was denied the target matching the first time, but I called again and talked to someone different. First, he verified the target ad, and then he credited $40 back onto my credit card. I think if you keep calling and talking to different people, eventually someone will give you the credit. I called at 3:45 on 11/1

I can't find a place that it specifies that it only applies to iPad2 and iPad3. All I see on the physical ad is that it applies to any iPad. And since the ad runs through November 3, I think that it should apply to the iPad mini.
The physical ad clearly states any ipad. Take the flyer to store X that does price matching and you should be set.
It's not a manual thing, the UPC through the scanner prompts the associate to enter a Gift Card number. You can certainly try to get around this by begging and pleading, but it ain't happening. Good luck.
It doesn't matter what they post in stores. The Apple customer service representative looked at the online pdf of the physical ad, and from there he credited my account for the 40 dollars.
you're really lucky, i got shot down and they just told me to return it. i didn't even bother calling again.
Called again and this time I was told there can be no discounts. Then I asked if anything can be done on accessories, she placed me on a hold briefly and then offered me 1 smart cover although my order has 2 iPad minis. Cant say that I am unhappy especially I cant actually get the mini from Target. She also explained that she can only apply 1 free gift per order.
He should have just automatically canceled your order for wasting everyone's time.

Why thank you captain obvious. I think I know what 5 business days is. I was asked if tomorrow makes 5 days when I clearly stated that I had called this past Monday. I only replied because it was obvious the poster (not sure if that was you or not???) was trying to make a point. Regardless, I know how long refunds take once they're actually processed. If the manager I spoke to processed it the same day then it would not take the full 5 business days to get back to me! If it does that just means that it was not processed on Monday when I called.

As a matter of fact, I was actually told I will see the credit in a few days.Ok I was just telling people because people said "they posted corrections" and gave up there. I stopped into my local Target store today to see what they know about the iPad 4 LTE's release date and if they are taking pre-orders like they did with the iPhone 5. I figured if I could get a pre-order in now, I could take advantage of the $40.00 discount plus save 5% with my Target Red Card. First thing that I noticed when I got to the Electronics Dept was a big sign that said "$40.00 gift card with any iPad purchase" so I figured good, it will cover what I want if they are taking pre-orders. There was a sign next to it that said the iPad Mini will be in store at 8am tomorrow (8/2).
No luck with the pre-order. They aren't doing that and the associate didn't know what date the LTE version will be released.

okay i just called another target and they told me that the 40$ gift card only applies to the iPad 3 and wont apply to the ipad mini or ipad 4..
Well I guess I'm glad I got to speak with someone at Apple when I did. They were cool as hell. Almost too cool...maybe they're just like "Yeah bro! We're gonna credit you! Get psyched!" and never initiate any credit at all. I have nothing to indicate there's a credit coming my way, other than their word on the phone.

they have given a $40 credit for people who purchased the smart cover and for people like myself who didnt purchase one, they threw it in for free! I received mine earlier today

I doubt it. It was from people who preordered online and then called during the week asking apple.com if they would pricematch the target $40 gift card....
