So, I was looking to pick up an iPad 2 as a birthday present and after reading this thread for most of the week, I started checking my local targets availabilities daily on the internet (Cherry Hill, NJ and others). Until I realized that they receive stock overnight I was just checking during the day periodically. On Thursday morning, at approximately 8:50 am I saw that two stores had models. I called them both on the phone and spoke to the person in the electronics department. One store (Cherry Hill) told me that they did have models, but that there were people considering buying them at the moment, so I didn't bother leaving work to go to the store. Another store (Voorhees, NJ), told me that despite the website showing them as having available iPads they had not received new stock since the launch date.

This morning I checked at 6:50am and found that a local store (Marlton, NJ) had "limited availability" of White WiFi Models with 32 and 64GB. I was the only person waiting in front of the store at 8am when they opened and went directly to the electronics department. The iPads were not stocked in the locked case where they normally are. They also had signs up saying that they were sorry but they did not have any iPad 2s. Undeterred, I rang on the help phone to get someone to help me. Someone came out of the back and I said, "I know your signs say that you're out of iPad 2s, but I saw online that you received new stock overnight." The helpful employee said, "yeah, we got a few in last night, I'll bring them out." She brought out two 32GB White WiFI Models and one 64GB White Wifi Model. I picked up one of the 32GB White models.

I've seen a few people say that "limited availability" means that they only have one in stock, while "available" means that they have 2 or more. My experience would seem to confirm that "limited availability" could mean up to two models since they had two 32GB White Wifi Models there.

After checking for quite a bit this week, I'd say that Targets in my area do not get 16GB models. They only seem to have 32GB and 64GB White WiFi models. I haven't seen availability for any 3g models.

I'd like to thank all who have posted on this thread in the past week that have helped me pick up this birthday present. It is much appreciated.

In at least twenty cases limited availability has meant one unit. If your mileage varies then so be it. Available has been shown to be two or more units. Perhaps someone didn't stock in the second unit. We have been compiling this information since Monday so your case is the exception rather than the rule.

Does anyone know if Target receives deliveries on Friday night, providing new stock for tomorrow (Saturday)?
Targets base truck schedules on store volume (how much they sell in a year). Some take only a few trucks a week on certain days while others take 2 trucks every day. Call your Target to find out. They should be forth coming with the information as it's not confidential and they want your business.

Generally very busy Targets take overnight trucks. These are fairly rare. Most stores take trucks at 4am and should have shelves stocked by 8am store opening.

Location just means where the products home location is. Basically where it supposed to be on the shelf. The system only shows you the Home. It could be elsewhere in the store as well. Always ask a team member if it's out on the shelf. You really never know as it's not 100% accurate.

Aisle: Section, shelf, location.
Aisle A5 5-3-1

Aisle A5
Section 5 (sections are 4 feet separated physically). Count down 5 section from the main aisle
Shelf 3 - Count up 3 from the bottom shelf which is shelf 1
Location 1 - Look at the label strip and count from the main aisle to the back. Alternatively you can see the location on the label strip at this point as you're close enough.

In Storeroom - Yes if it's in stock in the backroom as well or No if it's not in the backroom as well.

Got it. Thanks for the very clear explanation. I appreciate it.

So I live in Seal Beach, CA and looked up the Target availability for a white iPad 2 @ 64GB Wifi. It has been coming up "available" the past 24 hours at a Target in Norwalk. Called yesterday afternoon and they said straight up they didn't have any. Last night read through some post on here and how customers were making employees search for "available" iPads. Woke up this morning and it still said "available". Drove down this afternoon to Norwalk Target, walked to electronics asked the guy if they had any, he said "no". I explained what has been going on, so he walked over and scanned the price, and it came up 10 iPad 2's 64GB Wifi available. He walked in the back for almost 15 minutes and could not find anything. He said iPad 2's come in packs of 5 and that made sense, but then 2 guys checked and no luck. He said show up early and you have your best chance if "available".

Success, finally! Thank you a billion times to the op!

On the road to Phoenix after being shut out in Santa Ana and Temecula, and noticed Bullhead City had Available listed for Black 64GB wifi. Because we were going three hours out of the way we decided to check in and confirmed there were two in stock; we checked in at each road junction which was about each hr. Upon arrival (one Az fuel waste ticket later, LEO was pleasant minus the citation) we were told they had none in stock. I asked if they had just sold the last two and he said no, that they sell right when they come in. That didnt add up as the worker confirmed having two in stock just an hour before. The worker willingly agreed (surprising!) to scan the barcode for the the black and white 64gb wifis and found one white and three black in the stockroom. About five minutes later the worker returned with my new White 64GB WiFi iPad 2.

Anyone know how to bypass the Connect to iTunes the first time booting up? Being at spring training without a laptop won't allow for an iTunes connection. Thank you to anyone that may know.

I just had a very similar thing happen at my target. oh wells.

I looked at every price scanner that I could find at my walmart, but I don't see a keypad anywhere. Rats.

That trick is for target.

I did that at target and it said in stock room. They swore they didn't have any even after telling them that. They did not seem like they wanted to help me.

Geez. Just trying to add a little information. Didn't know it was so personal.

I'm confused on how to interpret the scanner results. If it give me an aisle location does that mean it is in stock and that's where I find it or does that mean that's where it would be? It confuses me because even if it gives an aisle it says NO next to In Storeroom.
If it says no to storeroom and gives an aisle that sounds like it's out on display some where in the electronic section.

I was referring to Target.

Stop by an Apple store and plug it into one of their display Macs. That would work. :)

Links work

Typing this from my 64 black wifi ipad2 purchased yesterday from Target in Sioux City, IA. Brought up the link, called the store and they had 2 in stock. Checked again today and they had 4 white 16 wifi in stock. Grabbed one for my wife. Tomorrow will cancel our reservations at Best Buy. We were first in line for 64 and second in line for the 16 and had not received a call. To the best of my knowledge, no other stores have received shipments subsequent to their initial allotment.

The inventory links are fantastic! Many, many thanks!

i've been tracking local Target store inventory all week, and still haven't found one. in several cases, when inventory changed for a store during the night, i went to get one and was told they didn't have any. when i persisted and made them go look, the employee invariably looked annoyed and told me "they positively didn't have any", or "haven't gotten any since last Friday". i'm betting that the target inventory system is pretty accurate, and that some Ipads are being stolen, saved for friends / family / customers with bribes, or being stashed in back so an employee can resell it on ebay/craigslist for profit.

Hey Chippy... which Target? I'm in Raleigh as well.

I got mine from the Brier Creek Target although the one on Capital Blvd also had Limited Availability on the same model at the same time. I was thinking of getting that for my brother but I had to go to work. I'll probably be on the look out for another one next week.

I would take it into an Apple store. I was in the same boat last week. We went to Phoenix and on the way my husband gunned it past the Desert Springs Apple store where there were only about 75 people in line. It was only 1 hour until release. He's lucky I didn't kill him.

at least it's not an isolated south florida issue. but i get nothing tomorrow, i may throw in the towel and just wait until stock is more plentiful (and who knows when that will be). it's just getting frustrating at this point where i'm saying iQuit.

It's not at all personal. But the anecdotal evidence is different than your experience. Limited availability in the twenty cases that I referred to has shown one unit. The only explanation is that either the unit was returned and not stocked back in or it somehow never got stocked in.
If you go back and read all 30 pages of this thread you will understand where the info came from.

Targets system isn't perfect and often an on hand of 1 means it's just plain out. There are a lot of things that could've happened to cause the so called error.

What city are you located in? Seems like a lot of iPads in your area
Greater Southern CA

You are so full of it. You've purchased 11 iPad 2s. RRRRRight!
Try reading again, you're making up fictitious numbers.

My original plan was to secure two for my immediate family via Apples online store, so I placed my order as the store came back online.

Then late Wednesday I ran across this Target thread. I drive right by a Target on my way to work, just as it's opening, so I thought I'd stop in. Being one of the first customers at the counter they sold me three, the first new Apple products I've ever bought outside of the company store. It was so easy I thought I'd try again this morning, and sure enough I got four. While this may upset some of you, if others were eager they could have done what I did. The bottom line is I ended up with a total of nine. I kept three & sold the others to a reseller.

Kind of ironic since usually at launch, I'm lucky to get just one of whatever I'm seeking. But iPads have changed the quantities we seek. I think this is of greater significance than all the arguments regarding other brands.

This is a terrible argument for justifying reselling. There would not be a market for resellers if people like you didn't do this. It's people like you that are propagating the shortage, and this shortage causes "less eager" people to resort to buying from resellers.

Besides that, your statement is literally false. The fact that there are still so many of us LOOKING for iPads is testament to the fact that even if we ARE eager, we CANNOT do what you did. If we could, then we wouldn't still be looking.

We have the same information as you do, the only difference is we don't buy up every damned iPad that we see. I don't want a 64 gb iPad so I didn't buy the two that I saw.

I'm in So Cal as well and I have yet to see a single store in my general area of about 10 stores that have any of the iPads in the last 3 days that I have been looking for them.
I've searched both White, Black and Wifi and 3G models.

You wanna be more specific where in Greater So Cal you are?

I live in OC and I have only checked the stores once (thanks to finding this thread) and there were iPads at two locations (and all gone within 5-10 mins). Unfortunately we have a lot of scalper mules here who will run to the electronics dept. regardless of who is first in line outside. That is what I encountered when I ventured to get one at the Irvine store's opening. I really like the iPad 2 but I can't outrun scalper mules for it...it's a matter of pride I guess, and I revolt at the idea of running to spend nearly a grand on a 64GB ATT.

Guess I'll have to wait for the grey market to cool down.
