First, ask them if they just sold some. If not, ask them to use their portable inventory scanner on the bar code on the shelf for the particular model you're looking for. If their scanner says out of stock, then you got there too late and the inventory tracker hasn't updated yet (usually takes an hour or two).

If the portable inventory scanner says they have some in stock, then they have iPad 2's somewhere in that store, it's just a matter of finding it. Ask to speak to the store manager, they know exactly how many iPad 2s were received and will be able to quickly find out where the missing one is.

Guess you just got there too late. When I saw the in Stock show in my target, I head over right away (around 10:55am). When I walked in the Target, i saw a Target stuff has a shopping cart full of ipad 2 walk toward the Electronic Department. and about six gone within the first 3 minutes

Does The Python Script Work On A Windows MAchine?
Did anyone post instructions on how to get the Python Script set up and working on a windows machine?
If so, please point me to the post.
Any Other Suggested Shortcuts?? (in addition to the individual links where you must enter the zipcode each time.)
Thank You

The inventory is not infallible. I ran across this today as well. The best chance is when stock goes from Unavailable to Available overnight and you are there 1st thing in the morning.

In my case, the stores are still showing Available at 4:30PM, and have been that way for at least 18 hours when I started running the script. The person in charge of stock said they had this stock discrepancy issue all week long. I suggested they find a way to fix it because if their store shows stock, everyone on the 'net will be endlessly calling them about it. While I was there at 8AM until the stock was verified, the phone in electronics rang non-stop the whole time.

OK I don't get this. One of my Targets had them in today and yes I purchased one but they had a 2 per person limit not the "netted another 7 stuff" you keep saying. They sold through about 20 or so in less than an hour.

Osred is twelve years old and likes to make up fairytales and post them here.

got a notification this morning that the east harlem store had alot in stock
i called up- they said they were gone within the hour

oh well.. still looking in NYC

Made it all the way there from Astoria: by the time I got there only the Verizon 64GB black was left.
I checked the website again and saw that Target at the Bronx Terminal (149th ST) had some. I took the train and after a 10-minute walk I was in front of the shelf with two iPad 2's (16 and 32GB wifi black). Without hesitation I asked a salesperson to open it up, I grabbed the 32GB right away. I decided to check the Best Buy too as I wanted the 16GB wifi white for my girlfriend, but, of course, they didn't have any. I came back to the Target again and took the last 16GB wifi black from the shelf.
While I was checking out somebody called and asked about the iPad 2, me and the salesguy burst into laughter:)
By the way, they are still supposed to have some of them left in the back room, I asked the sales guy to check for the whites and when he came back, he said that there were only blacks.

As for the iPad's that I bought, there is some minor backlight bleeding on both, but it's something that we can live with: I'm not gonna use it all the time in my bathroom with the lights off and the door shut.
And f@*k the scalpers!!!:D

My only issue with this whole thing are the scumbags who buy and immediately re-sell them...

I mean - I bought it for my daughter, and would have lost out if I wasn't quick enough...

True, there are a lot of scumbags. But there are a lot of people who flip a few iPads just so that they will be able to afford their own $500-$800 toy. Not every kid has parents who will just go out and buy one for them.

Local targets here in central va have not received any shipments since launch and most didn't receive any on launch. :(

The info in this thread worked for me (SLC, UT)! I was able to pick up a black 64g at&t today thanks to the info posted here.

My advice is to keep checking: At 9am there was nothing in my area... 10am a white 16g WiFi showed up with limited availability... 11:30 the the black 64g at&t was listed as 'available'... by the time i got to the store (~30 mins away) most where gone.

Even the guys at the store don't know how the info gets into the system. They didn't even know they had any until some guy showed up and said 'I know you have them... i'll wait until you put them out'. After that it was a constant stream of calls and people showing up for the new stock.

By the time i got back to work everything was showing 'No stock' again.

Good Luck!

I agree with Brian based on my experience. Thanks to the tracker I have been able to find a 32GB Black wifi (Weds) and a 32GB White wifi today. I have also seen a 16GB Black ATT but didn't get it. The Target employees were shocked that I knew about their inventory and could even give them the 057 number to look up. I may have a competitive advantage being in a Midwest college town instead of a metropolitan area. I wish I could pick them up for those of you who are still looking and send them your way.

PA success

Thanks to the forum, Checked the stock link for my zip area and managed to score both a black and white 64gb AT&T model iPads at the Springfield PA Target store at 4pm today :) they had one 32 gb at&t model left.

Scored 2!

Thanks to the tracker I went in around 7pm. The Target store was 20 mins away from me. I got there and found 3 hidden away in the back of the old iPads. I walked out with a 32GB WiFi Black and a 16GB WiFi Black for my GF.

They always say that. Check the stock yourself on the price scanner. Punch in the DCPI code and the scanner will tell you if the item is in the stock room. If it shows in the stock room drags the employee's butt over and show them it's in the store room and ask polite and forcefully for them to go look for it! ;)

Target would not allow me to buy 2 even though they had 5 in stock. I wanted to get one for my brother.

Got one in West Hollywood today

Thanks to the OP. I was lucky enough to order one online for my wife when they first went on sale. It arrived on the 16th, the day before her birthday. I wasn't going to get one for myself, but it is just too sexy to pass up.

I don't know Python from Monty Python, so I just used the links from Page 8. Was getting off work today, and the only one in the area that had stock on a Black 64GB AT&T was Target West Hollywood, two miles from my office.

I called on the way and they confirmed they had stock. Got there in time to grab the last Black 64GB AT&T. They said they had gotten a total of 15 various units in today. It looked like they had 3 or 4 left, but I don't know which model.

Lesson learned, the tracker works!

Awesome script. Thanks so much for providing it to the community. Just a question...does the script accommodate for the status "Limited Availability" or is it just checking for "Available"? Thanks again.

Strictly speaking, it looks for any status, but it only counts things that do not say "Out Of Stock" as available.

lol. In the earliest days of this thread (early last week) the page 8 list of inventory links produced very accurate results.
The result was many units purchased from Target instead of coming home empty handed after hours of standing in line at the apple store. So regardless of one's choice of search engine or comedy show -- glad to hear that the page 8 links produced an iPad 2 for you.

From five week wait to iPad in hand today

So glad I found this thread - ordered online and said it wouldn't ship till April 25. Kept checking stock today in the Orange County, CA area and boom around noon two Target's showed availability of 64gb AT&T model. I called to confirm they had them, jumped in the car and got the last 64gb one. There was one 32gb AT&T model left. Target seems to be the only place where the AT&T models are showing up - after calls to Apple stores in the area all last week it seemed the AT&T model was pretty scarce.

My story

I found this thread last week. I woke up Thursday morning and found the Target in Revere MA had 32 gb ipad2 "available". I had to be in work, but figured it would be worth it if I could snag one. I got there at 8:05 walked up to electronics and there were 2 people waiting. We had them check out back twice, but said they didn't have any. I think they had them , but didn't know where to look. Oh well...I was late for work and pissed. Over the next few days I found a few other stores that had them in stock, but I was either working or couldn't get out. Finally today I saw Target in Woburn MA had 16 gb white ipads. I called and asked if they still had them. The kid told me he had 4 !! I asked if he'd hold me one. He said they couldn't do it, sorry. I told I could be there in 45 minutes. He said "I doubt we'll sell 4 that soon" Yeah RIGHT !! anyway I bolted out of work early, hit traffic and got there about 55 minutes later. I got up to the electronics counter, huffing and puffing and there was a guy there, buying one a the counter !! I was panicking ( I don't know why , but I got so caught up in the chase ). I looked down in the case, and there was one left. I asked the kid, can I get that ipad...he said sure, it's yours. Anyway, I was psyched. I want to thank everyone who posted here. I appreciate all of the info.
