Just as an aside, it used to be possible to pay for the reload with Target gift cards, but in the past several months Target has been cracking down on this option. The last time I went to Target to reload, a big message appeared on the register that said that Target gift cards may not be used as payment for this transaction (or something like that).

Oops!

For Houston, TX

I went to Target in Katy (I-10 and Fry) and it was pretty easy, the guy just turned on the iPad, checked the model in the settings, asked me for my ID and entered all the info in the system. In 5 minutes I had my $200 card, never asked me to purchase anything.

No truth in advertising for Target

The Target store in Kailua Kona, HI refused to exchange my iPad. First, they claimed they knew nothing about the promotion, then they said they were not a "mobility" store, whatever that is. They certainly do sell the iPad in all it's forms, alongside Androids etc.

I showed them, on my iPad, their own website about the promotion. It's true that one page did mention that it had to be a "mobility" store but it offered no clue as to what that meant and it did offer a link to let me find the nearest mobility store. It found it in Kailua Kona... Where the staff told me theirs is not a mobility store.... Sigh. I have made screen captures of all the relevant screens.

If anyone else has been turned away on this account, please respond to this post. I think there are grounds for a lawsuit here.

Traded in my iPad 2 last night, but none of the Targets in this city have any Airs in stock. And Target.com is sold out.

In iPad limbo for now...

Can't blame the target store you went to. It clearly states "mobility". And below is the link to the target ad and within the ad is a link to all the mobility stores. I really don't see the problem. And you want to sue target for stating the obvious? You got some big ones on you.

I did this in so cal yesterday. I had a 32 Gb iPad 2 that was badly scratched on the back panel. I got my $200 "electronics dept only card" that also works on target.com

Some caveats, the company that is running this promotion is not target- it's nextworth solutions doing business as target mobility. Stores that have a target mobility can be found at http://www.targettradeinprogram.com/stores?distance=50

The target mobility store is run as a mini store and has its own hours - 1130-8pm at my target. Target employees cannot help with transaction.

My gift card expires 11/22 at which point I have to contact target to get it reissued with new numbers.

Most targets and target.com are sold out of iPad airs. I'm going to wait til Saturday to try again and keep trying til I get mine.

Good luck on the hunt!

Anyone know if you can do this In Saturday? I'm out of the country until Friday night. I don't want to run out late Friday to pull this off.

The sale is until the 9th, whether or not they have enough cards to give out it another story. I'm unsure if they'll give a raincheck or not.

Cracked screen corner

Anyone have any luck w/ this promotion trading in an iPad with a cracked screen? Our 1st gen iPad is in good shape except there is a 1" crack on the corner of the screen. I've not even tried to exchange it @ Target for that reason, but maybe they wouldn't care.

Had no problem with this trade in yesterday except for having to wait in line about 30 minutes while the one person in the Target Mobility section dealt with a difficult customer in front of me. She took my iPad first gen and gave me a $200 gift card, no questions asked. I did not have to use it to get a new iPad. However they had the iPad 4th gen on sale with another $40 off, so I got a 32gb for $349 after the two gift cards. They were sold out of the iPad Air anyway.

they said they were not a "mobility" store, whatever that is.
I went in this morning just after opening. After a clerk looked for someone from that department for a while, what she said indicated it's really a "store in a store" arrangement: like the occasional Starbucks in a Target, or Apple in Best Buy, a different company operates a small section of the floor handling specialized products on behalf of Target. If the Target you're complaining about doesn't have such an arrangement, then the $200 offer doesn't apply (as it sounds the fine print indicated).

Your Gift Card expires November 2022, just like mine does.
I got an Electronics Target Trade In Card for $200 for my Ipad 1.

The salesperson doing the transaction told me that it is valid for ANY purchase at Target.

What location to do this in Seattle?

Any thoughts where I can do this in Seattle? The store I went yesterday said she would call, but I doubt that will happen. I am dying to get $200 since I am getting an Air this weekend at an Apple store since they sold out Airs at Target. I would not mind a gift card though.

great for Gen 1 and 2

This is great for older version.s

If you have ipad3+ it is not worth it.

The one in Northgate does, as well as in Lynnwood. My friend just got his at gift card from Northgate.

Is everybody really picking up a mini? No one waiting for the retina? Can I really purchase a different ipad and return it when the retina comes out?

For me it was an unplanned purchase, we already have a 4th Gen full size 64Gb/iPhone 5s as devices and were just using the iPad 1 as a learning tool/video box (which was worth it given the ~$70 buy back places we're offering for the iPad 1). Being able to spend $119(with tax here) dollars and to get a Mini + $25 gift card back seemed like an excellent unplanned upgrade.

Got my 200 voucher yesterday at Target. I brought in iPad and they inspected for no cracks in the glass and printed out the 200 dollar voucher with paid shipping so I could send in my iPad. in California the offer is good but you have to do some work and send it off.

it's a 200 target card which will go to the purchase of my next iPad or Mini..

Just successfully traded my 32 GB iPad 1 for the $200 Target electronics card. The only stipulation I heard was that it couldn't have a cracked screen. I had to laugh. While I was waiting in line, someone called and was asking a bunch of questions about what disqualifies the iPad and then asked if they could come trade in 15. The gal told them they could only trade in one, but I think she was annoyed with this person obviously trying to game the trade-in program with no shame.

Can you trade in the iPad mini for $200?

I went in today and sold my 16GB iPad mini and received the $200 trade-in card. I was also unsure if they were doing this but the sales associate said that it included all iPads!

I did wait in a line of about 15 people, though.

Thought I'd add my two cents...

I was able to trade in my First Gen 16GB iPad for the $200 "Gift Card" without any hassles on Thursday at the Westgate Mall Target (west San Jose on Saratoga Avenue). The process was pretty painless as the Target Mobility guy started with 50 trade-in cards at 12noon. FWIW, he was out of cards at 2 PM. For those thinking about doing the trade-in, here's some pointers...

* Do NOT wipe your iPad before doing the trade-in. They need to be able to get to the iPad Settings app to get some information off of the iPad.

* Whether a particular Target will get the Trade-in Cards or not is pretty much a crap shoot. You can try to call ahead but I would wait until the Target Mobility person arrives (which is around noon for the stores in the San Jose area).

* The Trade-in Card doesn't work too well if you want to order your new iPad through the Target website. My recommendation is to take the Trade-in Card and immediately swap it for a regular Target Gift Card. This can be done at the registers in the electronics department.

One thing I did notice and it's something you should check before starting this process. If you iPad has a model number ending in "CC" or "CH", you will NOT be able to trade it in. I saw this happen with a couple of people ahead of me in line. He also said there are a couple of other funky model numbers that they won't take but I can't remember them off hand.
