That whore is just another reason to stay with Spotify.

That's not the world I would use. I think having Calvin Harris as her beard and being photographed ALOT with Michelle Rdoriguez's ex-gf Cara Delevingne would bring one to another conclusion.

This album has been out for a while now what is the big deal.
Lol. Are you kidding me? Her album has been out since October 2014 and she currently has the #2 best selling album this week. Most albums fly out the Billboard Top 200 after a couple of months. The fact that she is STILL Top 5 after eight months is unreal!

What a canny business-woman she is..

All these headlines over the last few weeks... lots of publicity for her, and her music...

Better than any advertising campaign.

When I come to MR I prefer to read more about Apple stuff like this:

Than about some flash in the pan nonsense like this:

Why do you doubt that? Are spotify users "different"?

Nope, just saying spotify will do just fine without the album . Apple having 1989 will not result in a mass exodus from spotify :)

According to Time magazine, Spotify paid her just $440,000 in 2014. She publicly stated that she dislikes streaming because all streams have the same value (she thinks her songs are worth more than others) and decided to pull her music from Spotify. If her income was based solely on streaming, it'd be just a few million a year which would likely be operating at a loss considering how much R&D etc goes into creating her music. So I think she's resistant to streaming because she wants be a billionaire. According to Forbes her net worth is $200 million dollars. Much of that came from touring, album sales, and her partial ownership of Big Machine records.

Doesn't she own Tidal in part or something? I was pretty certain she had some sort of relationship with Tidal and so would obviously have her albums available through it...

Also, one thing I wonder about Spotify is why they don't just make some songs exclusively available to paying members. Allow artists to opt out of allowing individual songs to be streamed for free. It seems like this could result in a lot of people transitioning from free Spotify to paid Spotify. Also, artists like Taylor Swift who think their music is cheapened by allowing it to be ad-supported can have their songs only available to paying members, which means Spotify ends up with a bigger catalog than they have now.

Poor Spotify. Apple Music now has the best selling album of the last 2 years at their disposal.
Uh, check your facts there. 1989 was released October 2014. Hardly best selling album of the last 2 years. Or did you mean, "1989 is the most successful-selling album within the past 2 years"? ;)

This whole thing was set up... every move choreographed like one of her performances. Everything from her getting upset at Apple, to Apple contacting her directly by phone, to changing paying artists during the free period, and now--so magically, her 1989 album is now going to be on Apple Music. Apple/Swift isn't fooling anyone. It's just for publicity. Nothing more. I'll be skipping her songs, like I normally do.

If that is true, both her and apple worked on this PR stunt . Eddy was very much part of this in the media

No, but 3 months of totally free will probably do it. At the very least, people will stop using Spotify for a bit to try out Apple Music while it's free. If it ends up being the same as far as they're concerned, they may just stick with Apple Music since it's what they were using most recently.

I think that may be the first time I've heard of an artist or musician having R&D in their craft. Hopefully it's the last too. Sorry, but I can't believe there is much cost to a true musician creating music. Unless she is hiring people to do it for her and then she just sings the songs, which doesn't get you too much credit in the music world.

she HAD to do it or else she would just look like a whiney complaining hypocrite. which she still is.

what a croc, that stinks of marketing talk..yea thanks Taylor were honoured you’ve changed your mind we are so lucky..
This shouldn’t be news..

Seriously, it's one album. You think that's going to hurt spotify's subscriptions?
I would say yes since her album sold over 1 million copies during the first week of release. Couple that with many of her older songs are still popular. Her name is big right now and if people have kids that like her and they want to pay for a streaming service they will go with the service that has TS.

Doesn't have to be new, just needs to be popular and needs to be selling. Both of those things hold true about 1989. Money talks.

That's exactly right -- never underestimate the power of large groups of people having their tastes dictated to them by the music industry. Their sway cannot be overestimated.
