Apple must believe that most will not upgrade their Mac?
Why get upset about it?
I'll buy one of these blinged out MacBooks 4 years from now and they'll still be great!
Buy one used like I did if you don't like the prices.
I bought a 2102 MacBook Pro I7 2.7 quad and put an SSD in it, total invested $1050.
its got 80-90 % of the power of the new one and no dongles needed.
If you love the Mac OS, this is great time to be alive :)

really strange stuff with the speakers... can anyone with a 15 inch version look if the speakers there are fake, too?

I don't think there is anything wrong with aesthetics being considered, but I don't think it needs to be at the expense of there being any user upgradability at all. Apple have proven they can do that when they wanted to. So they must not want to, which I think is a shame.

"iFixit also found that the new improved speakers are located in the lower portion of the case, while the external speaker grilles are positioned in the top half of the case"

Why is this news? It's clearly shown on Apple's site.

As usual Apple designs for experience.

Spill some of your water and if the actual speaker grilles are down front your machine gets water damaged (hence the location of the real speakers: underneath). "Does this laptop have speakers"? Well, I can see two so it must. I'm sure there's other reasons too like those holes positioned where the are is aesthetically more pleasing, more an item with the keyboard. If there's one thing I've learned is Apple doesn't just do things for random reasons.

The fanboism is strong in this one.
But for the sake of argument, here are a couple of pics for you. Random pic:

This. I don't see why this is a story nor do I understand why people are getting butt hurt and acting like the speaker placement is a problem.

But the sound has to exit somewhere. You can't play speakers inside a metal shell & not have muffled sound.

Aren't those speaker grills there for the sound to travel out of? As in... functionally designed by engineers?

My condolences go out to the Apple Store repair crews. Yeesh.
With the right tools it's no problem at all.

There are people who also replace whole car engines or gearboxes, without problems, too.
Car related part replacents is more difficult for sure... just a matter of tools, knowledge and availability of replacement parts.
