Wow she surely put that Mac Pro to good use! Can there even BE more useless Apple youtuber?

I can echo this! Though her iPhone 11 Pro with in-depth camera testing / comparison did very well.

Jonathan Morris' video and upcoming videos to really show this Mac Pro flex is going to be VERY interesting.

That said I really think we should all lay off watching their youtube videos. I just feel since their now all friends it's as if their videos are pre-written and shared or they contact one another first about what they'll feature and then not overlap or repeat what their doing. we the user seem to get variance but not really well rounded info to form our opinions before dropping cash.

I'm VERY curious whom, behind MKHD can actually afford a semi or maxed out Mac Pro and not have a tester shipped to them or gifted.

Where are the Geekbench scores of the new Mac Pro that people are supposedly comparing against?

Apple has sent the machines to their favorite fashion youtubers. Maybe it would be better if they thought about real PRO? I am a PRO, but I don't have to look pretty on film and never buy this equipment, because it's 5 times too expensive.

We're in the age of influencer-type reviewers. That's how companies make sales. Sending it to a "PRO" that will only talk about it to his/her friends doesn't help Apple get the word out. No matter how big the company is they still want their products advertised at the lowest cost possible. Sending out machines to YouTubers with millions of subscribers gets the information put out to thousands of people daily.

This is simple to explain. These YouTubers provide great marketing awareness and results for Apple.

I’m a pro, and have worked in the entertainment and photography industries for nearly 20 years, and on some of the biggest films ever: Toy Story 3, Wall-E, Up, Frozen 2, Harry Potter 3, etc.

Do I dream of having a machine like this at home? Yes. Would I use the actual productivity gains that I could get out of having this at home? Perhaps. Can I afford it? Nope.

I’d be able to do a more thorough review in using these machines for film and photography, but I have no followers so what’s the benefit for Apple? None.

Most artists doing the actual work on these films are on the same boat. The money (and marketing) is in the studios, film directors, producers, celebrities, and influencers.

it’s a great machine though. Just definitely not for most people.
using imac 2017 baseline.. It is can do work.Yup... it is slow yup if multi tasking abit.. But if just want performance just separate the usage.

E.g

1. I test my app on my ipod touch
2. I play music with my ipad 2019 mini
3. I have added external ssd

Conclusion

You don't need 6 grand to work with to perform.. It's all about skill. No skill , still end up making a team hired more cheaper then single person single computer usage.

... Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

....

I will do what I must.

You WILL fail.

Be careful not to choke on your aspirations for this technological terror Tim has constructed. He is as clumsy as he is stupid. The ability to destroy a wallet is insignificant next to the power of a custom built PC (for many enthusiasts out there).

Youtube reviewers really are some of the most dislikable people imaginable, it's all so cringe and biassed.

On another note I would have loved to have seen Apple go with AMD, Threadripper/Epyc would've made for a monstrous system. Xeon just can't compete anymore with those hugely expensive monolithic dies.

They're are all pumpers especially that Jonathan person so you won't get unbiased info.

Or, they know something that we don't regarding what's coming down the pipeline. Or... not.
When Intel says “But...pipeline”, Apple probably says “Hold my MacBook Pro” and shows pictures of previous slides about when exactly the 10nm and 7nm chips were supposed to be released, basically every year since 2015-ish....
So I bet Intel is really grateful that Apple is sticking with them.

OMG look how much faster YouTube runs on this 40 thousand dollar thing! She might as well be unboxing an electron microscope. There’s a place for YouTuber reviews but this is definitely not it.

I haven't watched iJustine's video yet, but let me guess what she says:

OMG IT"S, LIKE, SOOO COOOL. WOW WHAT AN AWESOME MAC!

Has she ever made an even slightly-negative comment about anything - ever?!

I used to think of her the same way, just trying to make a buck on YouTube making videos as if she like technology. I took it back when I learned she has been doing this way before social media was a thing, or at least as she proclaimed in one of her videos.

Does anyone has a link to MKBHD's wallpaper?
I can't find it on my Mac on the latest macOS.

my imac pro still fulfills good things in my recording studio! I do not regret a single cent in his investment!

I sense a lot of jealousy here :)

I am not a Youtuber and I rarely edit vidoes and images nowadays, most of my computer works are coding but hell yah.. if i have the extra money to buy a $60k machine I will get one. Who doesn't want a very fast machine and a beautiful screen even if he will just be opening 100 tabs of chrome or firefox.

People buy super fast sports car but it doesn't mean they should be F1 driver.

Back when 4k wasn't yet a thing, I heard MKBHD rationalise it was 4k giving him more flexibility in editing and exporting the video. Like you get better quality exporting a 4k video into a 1080p video vs filming in 1080p and doing likewise.

I imagine it's the same thing here. Filming and editing in 8k gives you a better quality 4k video than simply filming in 4k.
I'm not sure about that.. how much details our eyes can see in a given distance?

Perhaps if you have a whole wall as a monitor then 8k res will do but if you are using 32" then i believe 4k is more than enough. At arms length i think our eyes can no longer see the individual pixel in a 4k 32" monitor.

Just wow. No thanks, I'm very happy with Mac Mini 2018 - Fast enough for my requirement.

One thing for sure I'll spend wisely for my daughter's education.

Heavy simulations are typically made on massive Linux clusters. So is rendering of animated movies.

Mac Pro 7,1 is for video editors and people with special gear. Think TV networks, movie post production companies and the like. Smaller simulations could be performed by fringe groups, like medical researchers.

Mac Pro 7,1 is not for the prosumer, though. It is not faster than an iMac or a Mac Mini for more regular workloads, and in fact the specs posted so far are rather underwhelming in that regard. That is not how this beast should be evaluated.

For 98% of professions, you get a lot more bang for the bucks by chaining a few Mac Minis with eGPUs.

Where I work, we use Mac Pros to do heavy simulation work, and we're not a Mac shop. We've considered doing it on Linux, but we decided not to port over our workflows etc, even though the migration would be easier, the support for Linux isn't there.

I'm really sad my Apple Tower dreams got shot in the head when they announced the pricing on this thing.

I did my waiting...12 years of it...in Azkaban...for nothing.

What an amazing machine this is, in both a positive and a negative way.

I guess I better force myself to love iOS... and shrivel up in my Mac Pro envy. :(

iMac Pro? Wait for a revision.

I guess it boils down to the definition of "heavy". You work at Sandia?

Running for a year on 16000 cores should meet the requirements, though.

$50,000 (or there about's) for the top specced version!!!. I would rather spend the $50,000 on a HP Z8 workstation which with that amount of money spent on it can get you a Z8 that will blow away the mac pro in terms of specs.

Hopefully their video production quality gets some improvement with the new machine. Win for them and indirectly for :apple:

Their production quality has always been excellent. Show me a YouTuber who can beat MKBHD's production quality... He even said he's been using the Mac Pro for his videos, including the MacBook Pro 16" review.

Un, why did Apple seed iJustine a review unit?

She has a huge number of viewers, subscribers & fans. So that's why.

This type of "pro" is different from the "pro" in iPads and iPhones. Youtubers do a terrific job, however they can talk about specs, looks and price, full reviews should be conducted by professionals who use these kind of hardware and demand every bit from these computers. When you do things like that, then the price is not that high.

MKBHD is the kind of pro who can talk about improvements in his work, as he makes a living by posting videos on youtube and he has to edit them with professional tools. In the video he talks about the same video exported in 4 minutes with a Mac Pro, about 10 on an iMac and more than 20 on a Macbook Pro. If you need to perform that very operation 10 times a day you can save a good amount of time.
I'm sure there are pros who need a Mac Pro more than him (editing stuff for movies or tv shows), but they're not the kind of people who will take time to write a full review.
