Wow this is very helpful! I've had my iPhone since Christmas but still that was helpful, I have jailbroken my phone but not unlocked, I love o2 I've always been with them(or virgin mobile, but mostly o2) also I pay for my apps, I have downloaded a few from the cydia app instalous or w/e but i've been buying my apps lately because well it's not fair on the people who spent all that time on them. Anyway like I said this is a helpful topic, also do you know if apple fix pay as you go iPhones, meaning just general battery replacements or what ever?

yeah sorry but im hella new to this iphone thing but i just got one, its not the 3g but yeah im trying to unlock to use it for tmobile. and iono where to start kinda confused.:confused:

oh and whats the difference of quickpwn and a winpwn

WinPwn is Pwnage for Windows where as QuickPwn does the same thing as Pwnage but albeit, quicker and without a lot of hassle.

To unlock it, you need to use Pwnage and then install yellowsn0w if you have the correct baseband version.

Be sure to read the sticky well cause all these answers are there.

wait i thought yellowsnow was only for 3g. i dont have a 3g, ohh and my fones already jailbroken sooo shuold i just use quickpwn, and my firmware is already 2.2.1 nd i still have to dl and put it in righ?

Correct, yellowsn0w is indeed only for the 3G. Problem is, you never specified which iPhone you had, so I had to assume you were talking of a 3G phone instead of the 1st Gen.

For 1st Gen iPhone's Pwnage or QuickPwn does the trick. You can now even use redsn0w for that.

I'm considering selling my 3G to a friend of mine who's been on T-Mobile for a long time, and she doesn't want to leave that service, but does want an iPhone.

I can easily jailbreak and unlock using Ultrasn0w, so that's not a big deal, but she doesn't understand all that stuff - if her phone became locked again, I'd have to help her with it, and we live on opposite ends of the country.

What would she *NOT* be able to do with the phone, in terms of upgrades?

For example, would she not be able to sync any data with iTunes? Or can she sync, just not download new updates from Apple, etc?

Also, I know she could use wifi anywhere, but what about edge/3G? And can she create a legitimate iTunes Store account so she would be able to download apps?

Thanks for any info :)

She can do everything except probably get OS/firmware updates at this time. I got mine, and all is working, except the tethering part, which didn't show up and I am looking into.

Using both laptops at once with PDAnet

I use PDAnet. Since I was able to tether wirelessly to my Macbook Pro with the phone, then connect via ethernet to my 17" Powerbook to get both laptops onto the internet, I decided to try using Bootcamp Windows XP on the MBP and try to get the Powerbook connected again by ethernet cable. At this moment I am posting this using my 17" Powerbook, which is connected via ethernet cable to the MBP, which is connected via USB to the 3G iphone. In other words both laptops now are able to share the net by the iphone using the iPhone's USB chord. No battery drain on the phone, in fact it recharges from the MBP. It does not charge on the MBP using OSX, the only glitch. I have no regrets with PDAnet; it's so easy and it works flat out.

pdaNet problems

Since upgrading to 3.0 on my 3G, pdaNet has been dropping the connection every minute or so. Sometimes to reconnect I just re-click on whatever network I have setup on my Macbook and then pdaNet works for another minute. Any solutions?

This is probably a really stupid question, sorry.

So I have a 3GS iPhone that now I use with ATT. I have a first gen iPhone that I USED to use with ATT. I have now applied Pwnage to it successfully.

Say I wanted to buy a prepaid t-mobile plan and keep the first gen iphone in the car for emergencies. What do I do next?

I think I buy a cheap prepaid phone from tmobile, and put the sim card in the first gen iPhone. Is that all there is to it?

Thanks ahead of time, I'm really bad with this phone stuff.

great guide But.....

"Download the iPhoneModem.de helper app and run it o your Mac. Go to "Settings..." in the iPhone. In Settings a new menu option appeared, the little iPhone icon that just appeared in the status bar.

Note If iPhoneModem website is down, you can download the file for Macfrom here. It's a direct download to the file in RapidShare that I uploaded.

I read the entire guide step by step only to find dead links. Obviously I am not the only one to have this problem. Seems like it started back in June and has not been corrected 2 months later. Very frustrating.... Can someone please update this tread, or post viable links for the down load:(

Warning! If your bootloader is deleted (either one), then your iPhone will not work at all. You end up with a permanent brick.

Hi, great post, read it thru several times (although not enough, it seems now, see https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=8286751&posted=1#post8286751)

Question one: How would I know if I've deleted a bootloader?
Two: Can I try installing older stuff on my iPhone 3G (that was updated from 3.0 to 3.0.1 WHILE UNLOCKED), for instance 2.2.1 Firmware & 02.30.03 Baseband?

Thanks, I'm really running out of ideas. In a world I'm not particularly adept in as it is. I don't have a choice, though. Living in China, where the (supposed) iPhone will apparently not have WiFi when it gets here, a true dealbreaker.

I posted a Rapidshare file of it. But apparently, inactivity killed it. Let me fix that for you. As for the iPhoneModem website, it's not up to me. I post the website link, but it appears to go on and off.

Edit - Here is the new link to a Megaupload of the file: Click Me

Edit 2 - Any other dead links, please let me know. I'll start hunting those down.

Edit 3 - Dead links taken care of. Unsurprisingly, only 2 were dead, and those were the ones regarding the Tethering issue.

You phone may not start or your phone will never get signal.

Two: Can I try installing older stuff on my iPhone 3G (that was updated from 3.0 to 3.0.1 WHILE UNLOCKED), for instance 2.2.1 Firmware & 02.30.03 Baseband?

Yes you can go back down to 2.2.1. It's called downgrading. I don't have a link for that as it's not recommended since bootloaders in the baseband are preventing a successful downgrade.

I love this post, but dont understand most of it yet, i just got a 3g jailbrokenhackedwhatever and it works with a nepali sim card. but i am not sure what to do next. my brother fixes broken iphones in america and sells them overseas, all ready to go, and he sent me this one as a gift. but i am not sure what to do next as far as syncing with my mac. i have mobileme if that helps, and I have already downloaded the idisk app from the itunes store. i also have many apps already in my itunes library, and the phone has way too may on it. So what is the first step I should take? thx!!!
