Promoting your products by mocking others is just so distasteful imo. I’ve never understood brands that do this, and Samsung seems bent on doing it with Apple right now. If anything it makes me NOT want your products even more…
Same. Samsung's negative and cringe-worthy ads made me decide never to buy a Samsung product again years ago.

How's that for ROI on those ads, Samsung?

This ad implies that everyone wants a foldable phone, which is unfortunately not the case

Even if I was interested in a phone that turns into a tiny tablet that’s twice as thick as a bigger, more useful tablet the reliability issues alone would scare me off

It always baffles me how Samsung thinks people could be bullied into buying their product.
"Oh you don't use Samsung? That's so dumb! You're so dumb!" is basically their message in every commercial.

Come on, I think they kind of nailed the John Gruber effete hipster Apple product toting nerd stereotype well with that actor, give them a little credit.

Not sure what this advertisement is showing other than the fact that Apple does not have a folding phone, but what is the benefit to a folding phone? Samsung would be better showing why a folding phone is beneficial over a traditional iPhone, otherwise why bother?

They have had a complete line of ads showing exactly the benefits and uniqueness of a folding phone, spots running during big events including the NFL.

Could someone please explain why anyone would want a phone that is half as high but twice as thick, that needs to be unfolded before it can be used, but still has roughly the same screen size as a normal phone? No matter how hard I try I cannot imagine any reasonable use case.

Are these posts real, you can't imagine any reasons, really, a cover screen that can allow you to do basic phone functions, reply to texts, take calls, check calendar, play music, stock quotes, weather, allows one to accomplish basic tasks without the temptation to get lost on your smartphone. A folding phone allows you to carry a full size smartphone in a compact flip phone format. You can prop up the phone to watch videos and do other things with apps that figure out ways to utilize that feature.

Can someone please explain to me why I would want a folding phone? So if I want to use my phone I have to go through an extra step to un-fold it! Then when it’s folded, it’s twice as thick as a regular phone, when it’s un-folded it’s no bigger than a regular phone and it has an awful crease in the middle of the screen. Even if Apple made one, I would never buy it.

I usually can enjoy this kind of banter. It should at least be funny though. This one is just.. meh.

How strong is an ad that does nothing, except trying to play on the red vs blue underbelly feelings? I feel there was more in it.

Someone once asked "What would you like to see in an Apple folding phone?"

My answer "Well I don't want to see the fold"

A couple of friends have got folding phones and the fold is clearly visible and it just looks jank. I expect that when Apple produce a folding phone, the fold will be completely invisible.

Ok, I get the premise. But it feels too inside baseball for it to resonate with the general public. So then I ask myself: who is the intended audience and what action does Samsun expect that audience to take?

I can't imagine the audience is current Smashing users. I also can't imagine any current Apple user is going to move to Samsung because of that commercial.

Overall, it feels more an attempt at "sick burn" toward Apple users - something that likely makes Samsung execs feel good. But I wonder how much that tactic moves any needles.

I imagine this particular commercial was made for all smartphone users who have never heard about this phone, to entice them to jump over that wall and take a look.

Love this campaign. Super accurate. But I’m still going to keep waiting.

I like the advert, quite funny really. Those that are getting Butt hurt are those that are watching and thinking; "that's me." Why would an advertisement annoy people so much? I have tried both platforms, both are great. Atm I have all Apple products, I like them, that may change in the future.

As soon as someone says; "buggy" when talking about Samsung or Android in general, it is code for, "I have never had one of their products but I remember this word used 10 years ago." Same as those parroting; "Apple waits and then does it properly," truthfully? it's another way of saying "copying."

Just try, to let fall the folding phone from where he sits, or just "accidently" fall into a pool, or try to open a Z fold in a bus with one hand ... we (Apple) are waiting ? for what ? so apple will bring a Fold Phone ... no im not waiting and im totaly fine with not folding phones.
If samsung is soooooooooo goood at folding just, show me samsung how you can open a Laptop any Samsung laptop with just one hand ... every Macbook can do this, i had hp laptops lenovo, asus several brand, not one of them can you open with just one hand.

Comparisons to how Apple advertised 20+ years ago, when they were so small, current Apple could have bought them several times over aside, it's pretty obvious why Samsung brings these ads out. Two reasons, are to get people to make 11-page comment strings about them and to reassure their users so they don't switch to another product. These ads aren't going to convince anyone to buy a Samsung phone.

I’m sure some people have a use for a folding phone but I don’t see what I would need one for. I just don’t need a bigger screen a thicker and more delicate device doesn’t offer me anything.

Just last night I had a team dinner, and one of our team members pulls out a folding Samsung phone. Looked kinda cool so I asked him how he's finding it.

Says he thinks it's fun but the screen is starting to peel away and deteriorate at the fold. There was also dust and debris under the screen near the fold. I asked when he purchased it.

February this year. 10 months.

I will wait...
Maybe he's just a slob... There is a slight chance he is... Some people handle their tech stuff poorly

Cannot wait for the day when Apple announces foldable phone and check out comments on MR... It's happened before and it'll happen again... like big screen iPhones...

Why don't Samsung just tell everyone how hot their phones are?
Not Note 7 self-combusing hot though.
Surely enough time has passed to be able to poke fun at themselves...
