Greytmom... what a well thought out screen name you've come up with.
I kind of think that a laptop needs to be as small as possible. I mean its ment to carry around isn't it.
Interesting photos. I'm deciding between a 13" and 15". These pictures really show the size of the 17". Not knocking on anyone who purchased one, but why get a laptop of that size? To each his own, I guess.
I traveled for 2 years with a 17" laptop everyday, it really was no problem. And my old laptop is heavier then a 17" MBP.
Macrumors... only place you'll find a bunch of men claiming that fewer inches are better.
most of the girly girl men probably haven't even held the 17" for fear they might break a nail and sweat enough to mess up their makeup.
Luckily the MBA exists.

the 17 isn't that big! it weighs less and is thinner then my 15" pc laptop and is only an inch and a half longer. it amazes me the number of people that complain about is massive size. i can more then handle the 6.6lbs to carry around as can my 7 year old daughter. IMO I don't see why anyone would want a 13" screen.

Look up the dictionary definition of 'big'. Size and weight are not the same things.![]()
Some of us have back issues, so have to have the smaller ones (I have a 15" PBG4, 13" MacBook and just moved down to an 11" Air, and am considering getting a 17" MBP just to use as a portable desktop - it would be carried from home to car, car to desk, desk to car and car to home again). Also, I recommend you try and use a 15" or larger laptop on a plane, from experience, the only place its possible in any form of dignity is First Class, in Economy/Business I prefer my 12" Tablet PC or 11" Air over even my 13" MacBook (It still wont fit comfortably, despite being small).
no kidding! but most complain about the size and weight of the 17".
And "big" can be used to describe differences in size and weight.
–adjective
1. large, as in size, height, width, or amount: a big house; a big quantity.
Looking at these comparison pics.... my choice has been made. Selling the 13" and picking up the 17" MBP. The jump in screen size, max RAM and the extra port will be very helpful. Pro Tools on a 13" MBP is doable, but frustrating.
Oh, BTW, the 15" isn't the sweet spot, it's just for people who can't decide which size they want and go for the middle one![]()
Captain Obvious is on deck. *facepalm
We used to use these at work (designing new computers)... hard to believe the screen was that small!
