How did I miss this thread?

1. I hear in color.
2. I teach, I'm sick of teaching, and god I love teaching.
3. Favorite Beer: Michelob Light.
4. I bowl. A lot.
5. I won the award for most improved average in my league. I'm still terrible.
6. I correct all papers in teal pen.
7. My dog has terrible separation anxiety and pees on the floor. Every day.
8. I love the Vanilla Bean Cafe.
9. I lived in Ithaca, New York for four years and I didn't even go to school there.
10. I'm obsessed with contemporary American poetry.
11. The thermostat in the downstairs of my apartment controls the heat upstairs. The inverse, fortunately, is also true.
12. Our trash was picked up today for the first time in 3 weeks.
13. I hate holidays. God.
14. I'm also obsessed with contemporary, avant-gardeish art.
15. My doorbell so doesn't work. That's not a metaphor.
16. I used to despise emoticons, but have come to grips with their appropriate usage. :rolleyes:
17. I read all the time. Right now I'm reading Lisa Jarnot's Ring of Fire.
18. My hair line is receding, but it seems to recede in sudden stops and starts.

When I was three, I remember walking into my kitchen and hearing a sound -- it's the sound we all hear in our ears when there's nothing else to hear. But for me, it was my first self-awareness of the sound, and it was prominent, you know? So I asked my mother "What's that red line?" or something like that -- becuase when I hear that sound, I see a long, unending, thin red line.

My mother, of course, had no idea what I was talking about. But then I saw that the red light was on on the stove (the light that signifies that an electric stove is on), and I said, "Oh. That's what's making the sound' (or something to that effect) and my mother was even more confused.

People get freaked out by it, but every sound registers as image and vividly as color for me. I can't really explain it anymore than someone could explain what it's like not to hear in color.

I'm synesthetic, and it's usually pretty great.
 
I'd chalk it up to some sort of brain abnormality if you're able to see sound in color (or hear colors in sounds). :confused: You have 'special' abilities.

Anyway, as long as you're not mentally insane...

That is interesting. I taste in color. When I eat or drink it triggers color dots in front of me. Also when I see certain colors it triggers thirst.

Are you really bad at math? All the reading I've done on the subject (including the lame link above) always tacks on "Synasthetes are generally really bad at math."

I can't imagine having colors trigger a physical reaction (as opposed to having a physical thing trigger colors) -- it must lead to suffering at times?
 
I am horrible at math. Ive gotten up to Calc II, but I had to take it twice ( got a F the first time) to even get a C :mad:. The sensation of thirst its no so overwhelming that it causes problems, if I am home I usually just swig some water. Deep dark blues and violets usually trigger a thirst for orange juice or some type of sweet drink.
 
i went to a lecture on synesthetic people a while back, pretty interesting.

random fact: i never get thirsty, i drink very little water and i tend to forget to drink and go about a day and a half untill i remember "oh yeah, i need water to work" then go chug 4 glasses and the process repeats.

i suppose i might as well....

20. Hmmmmm.... what should I put here? Ah, I know, how could I forget!? I play piano and I'm very good, or so they say. I'm not judging myself, as if I said I was bad, people would say, oh, he just wants attention, and if I said I was good, people would say I'm either bragging or I'm full of myself.

Don't be hard on yourself. MR is not a popularity contest and I'm not popular... just annoying. But the other two are even more annoying than me... :p
 
OK, I’m in.

1. I hate baths, love showers.
2. I hate walking into spider webs. If you see a guy clawing at thin air while cursing, that’s me walking into a spider web.
3. I don’t like clowns (I’m not afraid of them, I just don’t like them.)

5. Played the accordion as a child.
