Seriously, riots after one round. Get over yourselves. They didn't win the Cup last night, they narrowly escaped the first round as a 1v8 seed. They're gonna be Ranger bait.
I guess it doesn't take much to get them excited in Montreal. They have the Habs, the Allouettes, the Jazz Festival, and angst between Anglophones and Francophones. It's like a powderkeg

. But, it's a beautiful city when the nice weather hits.
I hope that the graffiti on the cop car in the pic was done in both english and french- otherwise the language police will be all over that vandal....
In Montreal in 1993, when the Habs won the Cup, it was utterly crazy there. My wife was there (she lived in Montreal as a teen), and she saw people lighting fires, stealing, and destroying cars and shops. She said it was insane and scary, but since she was a teenager, she didn't really realize the potential danger. She said that if it were today, she probably would have been hiding under a table or something.
The last time the Leafs were in the playoffs (I think that was in 1933???

) and we got through a round, there was celebration on Yonge street. But there was no rioting or destruction.
When the Blue Jays won the World Series in 92 and 93 (back-to-back baby!), there were impromptu parades all over downtown and up and down Yonge street. No violence, just celebration. I was there parading up Yonge giving high-fives to everyone. It was awesome. ( I was at the 93 World Series winning game, sitting in our season ticket seats- 2nd row 1st base- when Joe Carter hit the homer to win the game. I'll never forget that moment. He hit the ball, it barely went over the left field fence, there was a millisecond of silence, and then the Dome erupted in cheering. It was so loud!).
I'm not trying to say that Toronto is better than Montreal, but it's interesting how different the reactions are in both cities.
