Don...not sure if they still are, but they were dating for years. Way back when he was first with LA.

It is a shame....she turned me down countless times ;) Just doesn't know a good thing when she sees it :)

I do remember that. I don't know what she could've possible seen in that waste of life.

I can't believe she would turn you down!

I'd take Duff over Cuthbert any day. She looks 5x sweeter and more sincere.

Blasphemer!!!!

NHL amends unsportsmanlike conduct rule in response to Avery's antics

NEW YORK -- Sean Avery found yet another way to annoy Martin Brodeur -- and forced the NHL to change a rule in his honor.

The Hall of Fame resume of the New Jersey Devils goalie doesn't resonate with Avery, the New York Rangers forward who has turned agitation into an art form. During a five-on-three power play in New Jersey's 4-3 overtime playoff victory Sunday night, Avery planted himself in the crease and faceguarded Brodeur.

Holding his stick upward, Avery waved it side to side to block Brodeur's vision in a newfangled method of screening. Brodeur gave him a whack, but that was hardly a deterrent.

"I've played for 15 years in this league. I've been watching games for 33 years. I had never seen that in my life," Brodeur said. "I don't think that kind of behavior should be done in front of the net, but there is no rule for it."

That was true Sunday, but not Monday. The NHL moved quickly to eliminate this activity by making an on-the-fly rule interpretation.

"An unsportsmanlike conduct minor penalty will be interpreted and applied, effective immediately, to a situation when an offensive player positions himself facing the opposition goaltender and engages in actions such as waving his arms or stick in front of the goaltender's face, for the purpose of improperly interfering with and/or distracting the goaltender as opposed to positioning himself to try to make a play," Colin Campbell, the NHL director of hockey operations, said in a statement.

Avery scored during the advantage in a traditional way, receiving a feed from Scott Gomez and redirecting the puck into the net.

Still, what led to the goal was the pressing issue.

"That's not something that anyone writing the rule book has anticipated, and I don't think that we view that as part of our game," said Carolina Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford, an NHL goalie for 13 seasons. "With that being said, Sean Avery didn't do anything to break any rules.

"With every rule that is written or how we try to change the game, somebody gets creative. Sean has gone beyond being a little bit creative on this one," he said.

That is exactly what you get from Avery, a talented player always looking for ways to push the envelope. He rarely stops talking on the ice or the bench, whether it's to opponents, teammates, officials or anyone who will listen.

"I've never seen that before," Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Ryan Whitney said. "It seemed odd to me. He's not in a position to get a rebound if there is one because his stick is up in the air."

As with most unexpected wrinkles, Rutherford expected the issue to be addressed by GMs before next season. That was before Campbell stepped in.

"To see that for the first time in a playoff game, that seemed to go a little beyond how we would expect the game to be played," Rutherford said. "The defenseman has a responsibility of moving players out from in front of the net, which becomes a little bit harder now with the obstruction and interference rules.

"Clearly it's not up to Marty to defend against that. He is supposed to stop the puck. It's really going to be up to Marty's teammates to offset what he is doing," he said.

The trick for players matched against Avery is to ignore him, but that is easier said than done. Avery has the knack of riling up people to the point they find themselves mouthing off or worse, getting so angered that he draws a penalty from someone who will do almost anything to shut him up.

"He's an idiot," Penguins forward Gary Roberts said.

The 41-year-old Roberts is no stranger to Avery, and his 21 seasons of NHL experience did nothing to help him keep his cool. Back in November, Avery goaded Roberts into a four-minute high-sticking penalty that led to a goal in a Rangers victory.

"A guy like that, they take it a little bit more of an insult after you disrespect them and all they've done for the game and how great they are," Avery said then of Roberts.

Brodeur is no exception. Avery has crashed into him on several occasions, dropped him with shoves and punches and goaded him into trips and swipes. In Game 2 of this series, Avery stood in front of Brodeur long after play headed back up ice. The two jawed, and Brodeur even leaned his head against Avery's helmet during the exchange.

Avery has pestered the Devils in many ways in the best-of-seven series that New York leads 2-1. He has earned multiple power plays and has scored in each of the first three games.

"Here we are trying to sell the game, and stuff like that is going on," Devils forward John Madden said. "I just find it childish and I don't agree with any of it.

"There's not much you can do without taking a penalty or doing something stupid. You've got to ignore him and play on and not let him be a factor in the game," Madden said.

Although Avery isn't speaking to reporters during the series, he has no doubt enjoyed drawing the Devils' attention.

"That's just Sean Avery being Sean Avery," Ottawa Senators forward Chris Neil said. "It's kind of like an instigator. He may not be doing anything, but he is initiating."

....Avery is still a punk. I don't care about history between him and Brodeur. That was pathetic and that guy is such a moron, he probably thinks what he did was ok. The only thing that guy has done right is Elisha Cuthbert. For that, he gets some credit. :)....

Whoa whoa whoa. Time out. Cuthbert was doing Avery?

Ugh, that's a damn shame. He deserves none of that absolutely stunning woman.

I love to hear people bash on Avery. It's so funny because everyone hates him. He's the most hated man in the league. People rip on him for being childish, or annoying. But the fact of the matter is he gets the job done. He's a grinder, playmaker, and a decent goal scorer.

So everyone keep bashing him, and hating him. The more he's hated, the easier it is for him to get under your skin. Ever heard of the Avery factor? It's unlikely because it's more of a NY market saying, but Ditty should have heard of it ;-)

Actually, I heard they just made a rule today saying what he did is illegal. So as of yesterday it was technically legal, if what I heard is true. EDIT: Roland made that post while I was typing mine. So it was legal, as I thought. Of course it no longer is haha.

You shouldn't be so upset Don, last I heard Comrie was (is still?) hitting Hilary Duff.

Haha lol.

I'm not sure if he used cocaine before games or just for fun. But cocaine can absolutely be considered a performance-enhancing drug. Cocaine can make you feel more confident, focused and sharp, and make you feel alert and energetic. It is a stimulant after all.

Ahh, but there's a huge difference between feeling and actually being better :) It's pretty common for people on drugs to think that they're having the most brilliant conversation ever, for example :)

Blasphemer!!!!

I will admit that Cuthbert is hotter, but Duff gives me the warm fuzzy feelings :)

This is the last comment I will make on this topic since it has absolutely nothing to do with the playoffs.

I couldn't disagree more. Cocaine is a stimulant- it most definitely can make a person more focused and sharper- kind of like caffeine (but stronger, obviously). We're not talking about pot, hash, or alcohol here. The problems with cocaine are the side-effects and withdrawal symptoms that can occur- not to mention the addictive nature of it.

On the other hand, if something can make an athlete feel more confident, it can actually make them more confident. Whether that is drugs, or lucky underwear, or a playoff beard.

Anywho....

So it looks like the Red Wings/Predators game is on Versus over here instead of the Pens/Sens game. The makes sense- why would they want to showcase a game featuring Sidney Crosby- the face of the NHL- when they could showcase a team that was on the verge of leaving for Hamilton this year?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

You're just blinded by your love for the Rags. Regardless if it was legal or not yesterday, it was a stupid and unnecessary play. The Referee and Chris Drury also thought so. What does that say to you? His own teammate had to tell him to stop.

Waving your stick in the air looking like a complete asshat does not make you hockey player. F**k Avery, hope he dies.

I will admit that Cuthbert is hotter, but Duff gives me the warm fuzzy feelings :)

Mmmmm... that's better.

I've always been more a Jennifer Love Hewitt or Vanessa Marcil fan.

But seeing as we're talking about the Playoffs and everything.

Mmmmm JLH.

Hey, there's a break in the action. :p (or was a break first game is on)

Ok, no more of that talk.

Blinded? Hardly, I never said it wasn't childish or inappropriate, I just thought it was funny and that it worked.

Glad to hear the Predators won. I like the Wings, but I'd really like to see an upset. As good as they are, I really don't think that the Dominator and Osgood can get them through the playoffs. Yeah Hasek is a living legend, but he's 43. If Nashville can put some fire power out, I think they can realistically pull an upset. However I don't see them going any further.

As far as the west goes, I really think the Sharks are going to take it, however I'd like to see Flames go to the cup. They're my favorite team from the west.

I'll drop it here. I had enough of talking about that tool.

Preds have a decent team, I still think they can pull it out. If I was the Wings I would totally start Osgood over Hasek. Ozzie has been spectacular for the Wings this year.

I picked the Sharks to advanced, but after blowing that 3-0 I'm a bit shakey.

How about the Wild baby!!! Another OT game. What a great series!

The Pens have put the choke hold on the Sens by going up 3-0.

Pens 4
Sens 1

oh man...the brooms are coming out now. what a bummer.
Even though I'm a habs fan, it's sad to see this for the sake of the community. It's amazing to see how strong hockey is in Canada. A ton of schoolkids wear Sens jerseys on game days; vehicles have the flags, restaurants are packed. it's just crazy.

Should be a great game in Boston tonight.

Did anyone see the opening of the Sens-Pens game? Apparently, a mascot or something did something well meant, but it came off completely embarrassing. They say it's on Youtube, but I can't find it. I have to see this.

oh and in case you don't read the Canadian newspapers, some dolt in Sens mgmt decided to repaint the areas going into the dressing rooms, which isn't so bad, except they painted a mural of the Sens shaking hands with the Pens from last year's series. Not so bad except for the fact they put it right outside the Pens dressing room so it would be the last thing they see.

Real smart to give your opponent another motivating boost...

If only I could watch any of these games!!!

The Pens game was amazing by the way, They had us worried going into the second and even the third, but what a way to keep energy up during the intermissions. It looked as if we didn't even take a break in between periods, but the Sens had to keep refueling.

I know people are saying oh, the penguins have an easy team to play this year. Well no, Alfredsson is back and apparently that didn't matter plus we were down Roberts (groin) so opposed to losing in 5 to last year, and not being able to really get by the Sen's blue line we have foamily improved, and most importantly look great as a team on the ice for the first time in a while.

Fun Stats
Scoring ratio (13-4), MAF's save percentage 95.6%, Gerber baby's 90.5% (GAA 4.0)

I

I would be starting Osgoode as well. I guess they had to start off with Hasek because of his playoff experience. Why else would they have re-signed him? I think they'll go with Osgoode for game 4. He played so well for them this season- they should give him his deserved chance.

Ozzie's stats:
Season......... GPI..... Min..... W.... L.... OT.... GA.... SA.... SO.... GAA.... Sv%
2007-2008... 43.... 2,408 .... 27 .... 9 .... 4 ..... 84.... 976 .... 4 .... 2.09 .... .914

2007-2008... 41.... 2,350.... 27..... 10.... 3.... 84.... 855.... 5.... 2.14.... .902

edit: sorry, the spacing didn't work out when I posted so I had to add a bunch of '.'s

I heard about that. They were making fun of it on Hockeycentral yesterday (the Hockeycentral on Sportsnet and the Fan590, not on Versus) What were they thinking?

And this isn't pretty either.

I wonder if Bryan Murray will be getting the axe if the Sens get swept? I would think he should.

<snippage>

Lest we forget that Ozzie won a cup or 2 with Detroit as a STARTER. Playoff experience nothing. Ozzie should be in net.

Ooo that's horrible. I don't see the Sens pulling off the miracle of winning 4 games in a row. FTR it happened in 1942 (Leafs) and 1975 (Islanders against the Penguins)

We definitely should not forget that. I agree, Osgoode deserves to start at least next game.

I don't see the Sens doing it either. It's too much of a hole for them.

Such a shame. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

It looks like the games that I want to watch (Mtl/Bos and SJ/Cal) aren't on Versus here tonight. They're showing Wash/Phi and Minn/Col. Boo to that. Oh well, I'll still be watching what I can. You would think that the SJ game would be on here in California.....

At least the next game. Don't be foolish Detroit.

History isn't on their, except for the 2 occurances I mentioned. Funny, it happened to both of our teams Surely. :D

I don't get that either! I'm not a big fan of Versus's schedule. The NHL needs to get back onto ESPN. I actually wanna be able to watch all of those games. I flip back and forth, I'm dedicated.

Yeah, and meanwhile both of our teams are involved in the Stanley Golf Cup Playoffs. My team gets home green advantage, we had more points.

I flip back and forth too. I do the PIP thing, but I don't like blocking a part of the screen the whole time. It gets annoying.

I remember in university my roommates and I would wheel another tv into the room and watch both games at the same time if more than one was on (CBC and TSN usually). Good times....

The Isles can't win home or away, so it doesn't matter. LOL.

PIP is annoying. I needs me some Full Screen, HD hockey. Mmmmm...

That is gnarly. Dedication FTW!

When I am at home I like to watch the highlights we get on the NHL network, a whole game by itself when they are not your team gets boring. (Playoffs have exceptions :p) My brother will sit and hog the TV to watch college games, or games that don't even matter so I can't really get into them anymore.

You're lucky Surely! At university here we don't even have VS, I got lucky this year and FSN: Pittsburgh picked up a lot of the Penguins games (and dropped a lot of Pirates games, I mean who wouldn't?).. If we had some of the West coast games, especially the sharks, I'd be all over that!

Well, the Leafs were equally bad at home and on the road this season:
Home record 18–17–6
Road record 18–18–5

I guess they just shoot par?

Full screen HD hockey most definitely FTW.

We lived off campus in a house, so we ordered our own cable. But anyway, CBC and TSN are pretty standard channels on basic cable in Southern Ontario, so I'm sure they got those channels on campus as well. Nowadays you can watch the CBC feed from Ontario, the prairies, or out west all at the same time (the call it time-shifting for some reason, as if you can travel through time by watching tv....). If one is showing an east-centric game, and the other happens to be showing a west-centric game at the same time, you are able to watch both instead of missing out on one.

Why can't the Avs protect a 3rd period lead? Theodore stands on his head for the first 40 minutes, then....

To be fair, he kept us in it last night with a number of excellent saves.

Bad news -- I'm stuck in a hotel in Grand Forks,ND

Good News-- I get both Versus and CBC coverage for tonight's games.
