What a show today from King Henrik. i wish the rangers would have scored at least another goal so my heart could actually still keep beating but all is good they won. Now they are going to come home to an insane crowd at MSG. Can't wait till monday :D

I'm surprised I didn't shatter my bottle of beer and crack the TV remote in half I was so white knuckled. I didn't even really celebrate when time ran out...I just took a deep breath. :D

That's more like it!!!! 4-0 Caps behind a brilliant performance from Varlamov.

It's over for the Habs down 0-3.

Can the Hawks go up 3-0 against the Flames?

^^^^^

Avery is such a little bastard, eh? I guess that means he's doing what he does best. Although it didn't work tonight.

Good to see the Caps finally win one- I think they need to win both games at MSG.

Even though Chicago just scored, I think the Flames will win tonight. EDIT: oh look, it's all tied up. That didn't take long.

Oh yeah, I have to point out how much I hate the Canadian and Alberta flags on the shoulders of the Flames' sweaters. It looks like they just sewed them on as an afterthought. The Alberta flag doesn't even match their color scheme.

I have seen so many games where teams almost ignore him and it seems to work.
Though I have to admit ilike watching Avery play.

I forgot to mention that Versus is showing TSN's coverage of the Hawks/Flames game. So nice to hear Chris Cuthbert's voice for play-by-play!

I'm surprised to see that this game isn't on CBC. In the past, whenever a Canadian team was playing in the playoffs, it would be on CBC. TSN was limited to strictly showing the American teams.

Man. Calgary's whole sweater is terrible. I loved the old white C circled in yellow/gold on that orangey red. perfect. now they have black and white and yellow and audacious use of bettman stripes....

Avery is a douchebag, plain and simple. I'll admit the one interference call was weak, but otherwise he can keep taking penalties :D

I think the Caps will do it, but the Rags will come out hard in Game 4.

I can see the Flames winning tonight but I'd love to see the 'Hawks just dominate. They are going to be a force for a long time with those young kids.

You'd probably hate my Isles jersey then (I've gotten many positive comments on it). I have away jersey before they switched to the new RBK ones. On the right shoulder is the 4 stripes (= cup. comes on the jersey) and the Canadian flag underneath. On the left is the American Flag and the State Flag of NY. When I'm not lazy i'll post a pic.

But you are right, not feeling the patches on the Flames jersey.

^^^^ Yeah, post a pic (when you get a chance, of course), I don't remember the flags. I always liked the stripes though- that's was cool idea.

The Hawks will have their chance to dominate for the next 5-6 years.

^ Will do. The flags were never apart of their uniforms, just the stripes.

Flames bounce back and win game 3.

The NHL, in all their smart scheduling glory, decided to have 5 series play tomorrow.

not to put the blame on the refs on the rangers loosing but tonight's game, the officiating was awful. Some of those calls were very weak for a playoff game...

in the NHL's defense, sometimes they can't control the schedule- there may be other events (like a Britney Spears concert or some other unimportant revenue-generating event) that were already scheduled in those buildings.

Holy crap, do I want to watch the next Flames/Hawks game! That was a great ending. Iginla wants to kill them all.

It was nice to hear the Hockey Night in Canada theme tonight- but weird to see it on TSN instead of CBC.

So did you add the flags yourself, or is it a limited edition sweater or something?

I didn't think that the officiating was all that bad from what I saw. And I'm unbiased. :D

Some of them were, and that's dropping my bias towards the Rags. Face it though, Avery is not popular with the league and he will be targeted if he moves wrong. Just like how Crosby gets away with everything if he's just touched.

Rubbish, playoff takes precedence over all!

Added them myself. Had them sewn on by my local tailor. Nobody is on the back as the Isles have an open door policy :p

I wanted some different and unique without it being too gaudy and hideous looking a la the Flames.

Here's my reasoning for the patches:
American - we're an American hockey team
New York - we're from New York
Canadian - pay homage to the country that created the game and to remind people that booing the Canadian anthem and general slander towards Canada is just dumb.

Too bad scabs fans can't see the same thing about booing the US anthem. Last night the Montreal "faithful" classed it up with another round of booing. I've never heard the Canadian anthem booed in Boston (even when Montreal is in town), and I had Bruins season tickets for several years. Too bad the Canadiens won't make it back for a game 5 to prove me right.

Is the Canadian anthem booed in other buildings?

^The Canadian anthem is booed at times during Isles games vs The Habs or Leafs.

It seems to be worse when the Habs are in town simple because the fact they make up at least half of the attendance in the building.

A visit from a Canadian team almost always means Rene Rancourt will do the anthems at the Garden, and he is always good luck for the Bs, so there is never any booing. Even in the 2004 playoffs when Montreal's booing was bad enough to cause a stink on both ESPN and CBC (and force the Canadiens organization to hire a prominent celebrity to beg them not to do it and show it on the jumbotron before the game... to no avail), we didn't return the booing (and I was at all four Bs home games that series).

Habs fans have no class. It's weird that they do that though since French-Montrealers (francophones) tend to treat Americans better than English-Canadians (anglophones). Go figure.

TDD, your sweater sounds interesting- I'd like to see if the flags fit with the rest of the design, or if they look like they were a last-minute addition a la the Flames sweater. Whenever you get a chance, post a photo. Too bad it's not a vintage Captain Highliner one..... :D

My next sweater purchase will be an 80's style away Toronto Maple Leafs jersey with Clark #17 on the back.
Like this (except without the 75 year anniversary patch):

Big night for the Canucks tonight, could be the first time we ever advance through a series in only 4 games!

Of course you wouldn't know it, according to our national broadcaster...

Despite sitting on what appears to be an insurmountable lead, Vancouver hasn't exactly overwhelmed St. Louis, and at times has looked slow and sluggish.

If not for the efforts of Luongo, who has stopped 79 of the 82 shots he has faced, the Canucks could just as easily be in the same position the Blues currently find themselves in.

Foremost on the minds of most Canuck players and coach Alain Vigneault after Sunday night's 3-2 win was to improve on how they start the game.

In Game 3, the Canucks could have been overwhelmed had the Blues been able to make it 2-0 with all the power-play time they enjoyed in the first period.

I guess the Canucks do look slow and sluggish compared to how quickly the Leafs are swinging their golf-clubs?

Oh, and also - GO DUCKS! I'd much rather meet Chicago or Calgary in the second round than face off against Detroit...

On yahoo answers one of them tried to say that Toronto and Boston fans do it too. They were called out by Toronto and Boston fans. :D I don't remember ever hearing boos when the B's were playing the Leafs, but they haven't met in the playoffs in forever (not that it matters in Montreal, they do it in the regular season too).

Maybe the rest of them are trying to make up for the Habs fans! I don't know what it is like now, but back in the 70s I visited Montreal and Toronto with my parents and grandparents. Since my grandparents are from Quebec both they and my mother spoke French. They (in Montreal) were not above very nicely, and with a smile on their face, saying the most crass things to your face in French, as long as they thought you didn't understand what they were saying. After a couple of waitresses did this, my mom called one of them over and started asking questions about the menu in French. It was fun to see how white her face got. Hopefully those outside Bell Centre have grown up since then.

I made sure to know conversational Italian and French before visiting italy and France, respectively, but never had any problems in either country.

It sounded like there were some during the Canadian Anthem in St Louis on Sunday, but we just convinced ourselves they were cheering "Luuuuuu" and that was the end of it :)

Flames

I can't believe you guys don't like the Flames jersey. I think the new jerseys with the flags look great, much better than that terrible fire breathing horse.

The flames will definitely make it a good series. It will be close, 6 or 7 games for sure.
