The 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

Being a displaced Detroit sports fan (western KY), we rarely find any Detroit games of any sport on TV here. The percentage of games is probably highest for Pistons of the 4. And in this area, hockey is barely covered at all. Closest team here is Nashville, then St. Louis (by distance).

I was sort of hoping the Wings/Jackets series would go to 5 so I could watch another one on Versus (5 and 7 scheduled), but it looks like it'll be a straight 4 now. So it looks like I wait to see if any get covered in the next round.

Yeah, Yeah, I know... I could subscribe up and watch on computer, but I just don't have the disposable income for it. I'll just hope they make it to the end where there'll be more games shown per series.
 
Gotta love they way that the "sports writers" work.

I wrote a response to the The Hockey News article about the fact that I didn't think they were giving the Canucks the requisite respect, and it gets "moderated" (no profanity, and if you want to see how I argue just look at my history on this site).

Out of curiosity, I follow up with one of my online pseudomyns - Stephen Lost - with a simple comment "Go Ducks" and it immediately gets posted.

I guess we can see why there is no serious discussion on sports blogs.

P.S. my original post is under the name "Physical Hockey fan", hopefully it shows up eventually? My basic point was sure Luongo was brilliant and made key saves at key times, but he's third in GAA and third in save %, so you can't say the team is riding him only ... they played a pretty good game themselves.

I do like the Flames' new jersey. I just don't like the flags. They don't fit with the rest of the jersey. It makes no sense.
Basically, it is the Flames' attempt to become Alberta's and Canada's team. Sorry, not going to happen just becuase you sewed flags on the shoulders.

I liked the fire-breathing horse. At least that made sense with the city and the team name.


Congrats Canucks! Maybe Mats will be able to get some games in now.

Oh well, at least our baseball team kicks ass, how about Yadier Molina's play at the plate to end the top of the 8th inning? One of the best plays I've ever seen! ;)

TDD, your sweater sounds interesting- I'd like to see if the flags fit with the rest of the design, or if they look like they were a last-minute addition a la the Flames sweater. Whenever you get a chance, post a photo. Too bad it's not a vintage Captain Highliner one.....

My friends and I went to Montreal in October '05. We were wearing our Isles jersey + a Whalers jersey, some people stopped to talk to us, some just said Go Habs Go, other people we're like let's go whalers. We were treated rather nicely throughout the entire game. Once we got to the bars, however, things didn't go so hot. We got booed out of one. In hindsight I wish we stayed, but either way it makes for a great story :D

You should have stayed. Screw those Habs fans with their smoking and their drinking age of 18 and their hot, hot Montreal girls....... :D

If you were wearing a Leafs jersey, they would have raped you. ;)

The flags look good. But see, you didn't just slap on giant rectangular flags. You actually took the time to find flags that would fit with the rest of the jersey. That don't disrupt the flow of the design. Maybe you should send the Flames these picks and show them how it's done. I think they still have time to fix it for next season.

Mmmmmm they were hot. We're going back eventually. We want to hit up Toronto and the HHOF.

I probably would've been dead as soon as I stepped out of a car if I was wearing a Leafs jersey.

Damn right I did! It works better simply because of the Isles color scheme. The blue will work with just about anything compared to the Flames black/red.

The only problem is that the stripes/Canada side is longer than the American/NY side. But it's not too bad when being properly rocked.

*emails Flames head brass in attempt to cash in on design*

My wife is a Habs fan (one of those hot Montreal girls I was talking about above....), and she's not a douche. :D

Although........ I definitely don't appreciate her cheering against the Leafs at every opportunity, even when it isn't a Habs vs. Leafs game. Hmmmm........... wait a sec.........

My next sweater purchase will be an 80's style away Toronto Maple Leafs jersey with Clark #17 on the back.

Surely...pls don't lump all us Habs fans in there! I have class! I wasn't booing the supposed goalie of the future. ugh! Talk about encouraging the kid to ski-daddle as soon as he can and making any UFA's think twice about signing there.

The booing ones were the drunks who just came back from the depaneur with their Joe Louis :)

As for the rest - what a finish in Carolina last night. wowsers.

Avery is such an idiot. He hasn't changed one iota as I figured he wouldn't.
I've heard rumours from guys who played with him before and it sounds like he is a massive loser. Looks that way from the fact he sits at the end of the bench like a loner. Either that guy needs a big hug to let him know whatever problems irk him, he can be ok or he just seriously needs to get his a** kicked time and time over again.

no one from the east will win. Boston looked good, but it's not hard when the other team is decimated by injury and completely dysfunctional. I think a great East Conf. matchup will be Bos-NJ.
 
OK I am a HUGE Bruins fan.

I was brought up to HATE the Canadiens, not a little but with my heart.

However, tonight I have to say the Canadiens showed how much clas the organization has. Instead of coming out in the third period acting like the flyers of the 70's, the habs came out to see if they could win the game, no BS except one play.

Yeah.... I had some fun bugging her about the sweep. I'm still teasing her today. That's what she gets for harping on my Leafs! She wasn't very happy that they lost, but she knew that they really had no chance against the Bruins anyway. They've been a downhill team since the All-Star game.

She still won't let me post pics of her, sorry TDD :D Maybe one day.......

Okay, maybe there can be one non-douchie Habs fan. I guess you're it Keebler! Time to start some Habs-styles missionary work to convince the others to be nice :p

I agree with you about no one from the East winning the Cup. I'm not so sure about your Bos. vs. NJ Eastern Final though. I think Carolina may just be able to squeak past them. I mean, it's a best of 3 now. Anything can happen. Gotta love it!!

I say for the sake of the Columbus market, I hope the Jackets win at home tonight. At least to give the fans a taste of winning a game in the playoffs.

The Wings can finish them off in game 5.

I'll be disappointed, but I'll get over it. Not like I can watch the game here in Texas anyway.

I don't think it's a tease. I think they know that they have little to no chance of coming back from 3-0 to beat the Mighty Wings of Detroit.

It's a taste- so they can continue to have hope and remain excited about this relatively new team. It's an important step for a franchise.
