paraguay almost stole the game playing like... italy.
very disappointing. how did they almost win the South American qualifying group, just one point behind brazil?
Italy played as expected. solid and boring.
the worst italian team in many years.
they did deserve a least the tie, as paraguay's goal was nice but quite random within the flow of the game.

right now i am 6/10 in predicting outcomes

Because all the South American teams were wildly inconsistent throughout the qualifying rounds. All the countries involved had crazy hot and cold swings at different points, except for Peru who could never get it going in any meaningful way.

while of course Beckenauer are always exaggerating, his comments are always close to the truth: fact is England wasted lots and lots of posession by way too hasty long balls foward to heskey, rooney and the wingers...

which was made worse with rooney having to drop further and further back to get any balls at all

I think that the potential England vs Germany defence could be decided by who has the worst defence. We know that England's is slow and brittle, but the Germans have yet to be tested. Australia with one up front (and a winger at that), wasn't much of a test. Let's see how they get on against a proper attack (not that England have one of those either).

Just watched the 1st half of NZ vs Slovakia. It was like an English League 1 match.
