So, the last two teams are about to start their first match. Since we will then have had a look at every team, what would your views be on:

1) The most impressive looking team?
2) The least impressive looking team?
3) The team that surprised you the most (in a positive way)?
4) The most disappointing team?
1) Germany (Grrr!)
2) Greece/England
3) New Zealand (They scored and got a point!)
4) Spain (More Grrr! I had money on them to win against Switzerland as I was so confident they would)

A bit depressing re the 'parking the bus' style gaining more ground, but good for the group. Spain looked slow, though if it had been Torres chesting to Villa they might have nicked a draw.

Off to sort my fantasy team, any countries you don't want to do well? Let me know and I'll pick their players.:(

Cheers,
OW

I don't think you can call what Switzerland did 'parking the bus'.

For the majority of the game I'd say they did; 'Filling the box'?

To me, a team that 'parks the bus' shows no attacking intent whatsoever. Yes, they had plenty behind the ball when Spain were in possession but they showed the willingness to counter attack with pace and numbers when the opportunity arose.

i agree with swiftaw.
the swiss played very well and deserved the win.
Spain played very well also and were a bit unlucky, but at the end of the day, you have to put it in.

the risk of playing an all-in attacking style is that you open yourself to the other team's counterattacks. the swiss did that very well and could have evne won by a larger margin, especially if casillas would have been sent out on that avalanche of a challenge when the goal was scored

Two words: Iker Casillas

I think he's an awful keeper. He looks great on paper because of the strong offense of the Spanish team. But when it comes down to goal-tending, he depends way to much on the defenders and does little in the box.

Congrats to Switzerland on a well played game - "Parking the bus" or not their counter attacks were quite successful and without the goal posts this game would have still gone 2-1 in their favor.

Ok, so everyone has played one game, who do you think will qualify?

My Picks:

Group A:
Uruguay
Mexico

Group B:
Argentina
South Korea

Group C:
England
USA

Group D:
Germany
Ghana

Group E:
Netherlands
Japan

Group F:
Paraguay
Italy

Group G:
Brazil
Ivory Coast

Group H:
Switzerland
Chile

I like your picks...but not convinced with Japan...Cameroon has more to show I think...Chile played some good football...that group is very complicated for Spain no matter what their arrogant coach says...

Very hard for Cameroon to qualify. They'll probably have to beat the Netherlands to do it.

mexico/france
argentina/nigeria
england/usa
germany/ghana
netherlands/denmark
italy/paraguay
brazil/portugal
switzerland/spain

today:
south africa-uruguay 1-0
tomorrow:
france-mexico 1-1
greece-nigeria 0-1
argentina-S.korea 2-1

Spain always seem to do it... start off very badly...

South Africa don't have a chance against Uruguay. The South Americans might score quite a few tonight.

Group C: England and Slovenia

Group E - Japan have the points. Denmark have the defence, but can Bendtner score? The Danish games look like draws, which would put Cameroon in a spot as swiftaw mentioned. I'll go with the points on the board.

Group H: Honduras to fluke something:)

Edit - theITGuy - wasn't that an own goal?

Cheers,
OW

If Bendtner was half as good as he thinks he is, he'd be the greatest player in the world.

LMAO. Thanks for that chuckle. I needed a lifter after Spain's loss today.

EDIT: I can't believe the ref red-carded Khune. I wanted to see Uruguay win the match, but not like that.

There was contact..... and Suarez stars in fooling the ref. He plays in Holland (Ajax) and we see his dramatics every week here. A very annoying player.

But, again, there was contact... and the red card is obligatory...

SA is out of the tournament now. I can't believe they will win over France.
