yeah 'other' players ... other _australian_ players
who were on multiple situations simply demanded offsides.. even when wrong.. simply because they were that far behind in speed

as said before: your "clear handball penalty" wasn't one ... not even close ... it would require the hand going to the ball and intent .... having the hands close in front of your body to protect your body from a shot simply isn't a penalty

and if australia plays against ghana like they did against germany ... good luck with that ... the aussie team simply is beyond their prime

1. I agree. It bothered me to see them appealing to the linesman all the time. I suspect Australia practiced offside traps, but that actually requires springing the trap rather than just raising your hands. Only Tony Adams and the classic Arsenal back four ever pulled that off properly every time with fine-tuned teamwork from years of playing together.

Not just Australia it seems. Just as I typed this, Mexico beat the France offside trap. Two French players raising their hands while the Mexican runs onto goal to score.

2. 'Intent' is a purely objective judgement, depends which side youre supporting. Thierry Henry against Ireland for example. I've seen penalties given for far less intent.

3. They won't play the same against Ghana, as they need to win unlike against Germany. I predict Australia 2-1 Ghana. A draw won't be good enough because of the terrible 4 goal difference the referee gifted Germany where it should otherwise be only 1.

Good game for Mexico. They worked hard and played well.
France was way too slow in offense and defense. Did they even have one shot on goal?
Not sure I'm in total agreement with the first goal - it was a close call but I think it was off-sides.

Shay and Paul will be delighted, that's for sure... :p

Wow! I barely hear any horns, and I actually hear chanting and singing. It's like I'm actually watching football!
Is that due to filtering then? I ask because as you say they sounded much quieter during tonight's match, but there were a couple of moments where – just for a second – they suddenly got much louder before quietening down again just as quickly...

I got two winners right? We can thank Mexico for kicking France out of their misery...god the players hate Domenech...

Tomorrow:
USA 2, Slovenia 1
Germany 3, Serbia 1
England 2, Algeria 0

France - it is bad enough when a child acts like a spoilt brat, but men! Not performing to spite the manager is cheating the fans and the players who could have replaced them. It's the World Cup!

0-0 or 1-1 for the draw between Mexico and Uruguay? Takes me back to Austria v West Germany;)

Cheers,
OW

or sweden-denmark at euro 2004. :D

the problem for mexico is that if they tie uruguay is first because it has a better goal differential, and so mexico would play argentina. not sure they are too keen on that, so let's hope we get a real game. South Africa and france are not done yet.

I'm french, and i have to say, damn, what a sameful match the team did. Seriously, i will never understand Domenech decisions, and I have to say we should have get rid of this fellow 2 years ago, because back then if was the 1st signs that something was wrong. the qualifications campaign also illustrated that this team was sh*t. The team is sh*t. Not the players. Because when you look the team, you just see good players at every position. But too many ego related problem. Could you believe that during a World Cup, players (Anelka, Ribery, Abidal) would actually go the coach, and ask him to sacked a player, by getting on a the bench (Gourcuff). That just shows the problems in this team. Well-done to Mexico, they were the better side no doubt. But I hope Laurent Blanc will be able to clean up this mess and build a new team with the Benzema, Nasri, Menez, Ben Arfa...
Amen.

I hope so!

France have some real talent all round in every position. The goalkeepers are fantastic, Lloris and Mandanda both equally as good. Defence is a bit weak in the central position but wing backs are top class. They should be encouraging Gourcuff not benching him, he and Diaby were the only two good players against Uruguay. Get rid of Henry now, legend he may be but no longer an international player.
