Poor joke. You seriously can't compare the Mexican ref favoring Germany once or twice on a game where Germany should've scored 8 goals with that travesty the Spanish ref just presided over...

Certainly not. The Spanish ref was equal with both sides. The Mexican was not. No comprison at all, as witnessed by the scoreboard showing the difference. Where was Germany's 'masterclass' rout without their 12th man advantage? Nowhere to be seen.

I really don't care if a ref is good or bad, so long as he's equally good/bad with both teams so it's a fair game. Which wasn't the case in Ger v Aus.

And despite the yellow for 'faceball' (where's the 'intent' there, huh?), the USA Slovenia game is fair so far. Which makes it a good game.

I reckon USA will win this one. Even when 2-0 down they weren't looking out of it.

What's up with this stupid referee?!?!

Whenever there is a crowd inside the penalty area he blows his whistle in favour of the defence.

If this game stays 2-2, blame the bloody ref.

That was nearly the winner there. He definitely blew the whistle before the ball went in though.

Getting a little bit tense isn't it? :p

come on, drop it, you're getting ridiculous. germany totally deserved the 'rout'. the ref had nothing to do with it. the result against serbia was different not because of refereeing, but because serbia played much much better than australia.

Final whistle. That was one hell of a comeback. Thought you might win for the last 10 minutes or so.

And now the support acts have left the field, onto this evening's Main Event. England vs. Algeria

Now that disallowed goal was a refereeing decision that definitely affected the outcome.

I've just seen that disallowed goal for the US again - and not only was there no foul by a US player, there are probably two penalty-kick offences being committed by the Slovenian defenders. Shocking decision.
Shame, was a great game other than that.

Impressive game. I am impressed that the US came back, especially that they started out looking like crap.

They need to keep thinking "anything can happen" and not just assume they will do well.

nice game.
fantastic comeback.

there was wrestling in the box on the 'disallowed' goal, as there was before in other occasions. it could have been called either way, or not called at all (which would have been the best decision).
i don't think we'll see this ref again.

You should let it go. This game just showed both a 'faceball' by an American and a handball by a Slovenian in the US box three minutes from time that had as much 'intent' as the German handball which would have made the score 2-1 instead of the 'brilliant' 4-0 win.

Had that game actually ended 2-1 would you still be saying how badly Australia played? I don't have an issue with losing, as I said, just about the post-match rubbing-it-in about just how much better Germany was, which you're still doing.

PS. I think it irks me so much because Australia was knocked out last WC in the last 30 seconds by Italy milking a penalty to go through to the quarters. Followed by 4 years of Italy being 'world champions'. It left a long-lasting sour taste.

An England win over Algeria, 1-0 US win over Algeria, and 1-1 England and Slovenia draw means we go to a drawing of lots to see who advances between the US and Slovenia

I need to double check my math but I actually think in that scenario, if England only beats Algeria 1-0 England would be out on the 6th tiebreaker.

Edit - That's if England wins 2-1. A 1-0 England win (with US over Algeria 1-0 and Slovenia and England 1-1) would put England out on the 2nd tiebreaker.
