i don't think it's bad.
If the US beat algeria they are through, and they may even go through with a tie, if england doesn't beat slovenia, which at this point is not a given.

obviously with the win today they'd be in the driver seat, but they are in charge of their destiny, which is always a good thing.

But they did win. Shows you how much good that did them :p

Wow, well, that was awful. Okay people, which 11 would you pick to start England's next game knowing you have to win.

For Me:

James

Johnson - Dawson - Terry - A Cole

Lennon - Barry - Gerrard - J Cole

Defoe - Crouch

Right on, so now we have four scenarios to put the US through, unless I'm mistaken:

1) Slovenia beats England, USA beats or ties Algeria -> Slovenia & USA advance
2) Slovenia ties England, USA beats Algeria -> Slovenia & USA advance
3) Slovenia ties England, USA ties Algeria and the goals scored total more than the goals scored by England-> Slovenia & USA advance
4) England beats Slovania, USA beats Algeria -> England & USA advance

So, in a nut shell, if the USA beats Algeria we are through, if we tie with Algeria then it all comes down to the England vs. Slovenia match, and if we lose to Algeria we're done.

Looks right to me babe

US is in a significantly better position having a 2 goal advantage in the event of a tie as well.

you are right.
and if both england and the US tie, england needs to score 2 goals more than the US (like 3-3 vs 0-0).
as i was saying the US is in a good position: how many here wouldn't have signed beforehand for the US having ('just') to beat algeria to be sure to go through?

Let me give you my opinion, bearing in mind that I'm absolutely raging atm, but a fan that pays the money and travels all those miles to support his team has the right to express his/her frustrations.
Don't give me any of that real fan BS, that performance was the most lackluster piece of garbage I've ever had the misfortune of witnessing, and if any player was expecting any different of a reaction I question their intelligence.
Instead of spreading the blame around and looking for scapegoats, how about stepping up and accepting their short-comings and complacency, at least for once in their international careers.

Lets face it england looked like scared sheep. They have been really lucky with the group they got. They should be topping the group with ease. Against a team with more attacking quality (ie any team from any other group) they would have been ripped apart tonight.

so are you in SA at the moment?

Agreed.

Or, mr. manager, how about you drop some of these 'superstars' to show that they can't just show up and play like rubbish and expect to keep their place. I'm sure some of the 'lesser' players would show more hunger and desire than some of the players today.

so are you in SA at the moment?

No but trust me if I was I would be making my opinion heard. Besides, do I have to be in SA to understand the fans' disappointment or express my opinion?
I remember the BBC interviewing people leaving to SA and there was one guy that had to leave his job so that he could travel, honestly believing that it would be worth it.
Question his decision, doubt his sanity if you will but that sort of commitment doesn't deserve what the performance they got today. Realize it or not, that's what representing your country is.

And it's finished; good features on edible plants, wildflowers and making liquid compost.

As to the 'football' I saw; what is it that affects the vision and brain of a manager who takes the England Job? If Rooney is fit, play Gerrard behind him, and if he isn't - touch is very poor, then drop him! Trying the same thing, getting the same result.

Cheers,
OW

I'd say that's pretty fair.

It's not like it was a 3 - 3 draw and England tried their hardest. It was rubbish almost ever way you look at it. Completely fair to boo a terrible performance when so much time and money was invested to support them.

Pretty uninspired, flat play from England eh? They honestly should have put both the US and Algeria away fairly easily.

Didn't your lot bring Fabio Capello in back in 2008 for some obscene amount of money like $9 Million a year to avoid just this scenario? Namely a bunch of big name players with little team chemistry not gelling together in the World Cup who really have not lived up to their billing yet?

Just curious what all the Brits on the board think?

whoa,whoa, calm down :D.
everyone is perfectly entitled to their opinion, i was just curious to have some first hand comment (especially about the vuvuzelas) from someone being there, and that's what i thought your post implied.

With both teams tying:
England with 1 more, same, or less goals than US - US advances
England with 2 more goals than US - drawing of lots
England with 3 or more goals more than US

Lol, my bad then, I'm raging like a bull with a thrombosed hemorrhoid at the moment. I apologize for that.

Wow, well, that was awful. Okay people, which 11 would you pick to start England's next game knowing you have to win.

I'd say the same team as started today. Change manager instead. England playing a static back four sitting back against a lone striker was a waste of talent. I don't recall Ashley Cole making any runs forward at all and crossing in to Heskey for example. Nearly every English attack was down their right flank and it was Heskey usually doing the crossing to ... himself.. except he's not... there because he's doing the crossing...

And how many times did Terry come forward like he always does at Chelsea? Those back four sitting back left the five man Algerian midfield to control the game. Rooney and Lampard and even Gerrard were outnumbered and effectively shut down. England just need a more positive game plan to change the whole dynamic.

It's not rocket science. I can't see Capello keeping his job for Euro 2012. And get Walcott on the next plane to South Africa. That was his first short sighted mistake that needs rectifying.
