Well that Cameroon vs Denmark was an entertaining match...seems both teams were playing the very offensive minded 4-1-5 formation...

I'm putting my money on either Argentina (in spite of Maradona's antics), Brazil or Italy to win it all. England has just too many egos on the team and Capello can't seem to control them....
Maradona vowed to streak if Argentina win the Cup. That is something I do not wish to see nor do I wish to be inflicted on stadium full of innocent (but probably intoxicated) spectators.

Holland playing like Italy means you'll probably win the whole thing this time around.
I really expected Japan to do better than they have, they were very good in the Asian qualifiers. Bendtner's goal was a classic Bendtner goal, tapping the fast low cross in is exactly what he does best, isn't it? Arsenal need to feed him more of those types of balls.
In the slow-mo replays he had his eyes closed and made his chest big as the ball was hit straight at him and it curved and hit him on the shoulder and down onto his elbow. He was actually bringing his arms in to his body but wasn't fast enough the ball was hit so hard. 'Ball to hand' rather than 'hand to ball' so unintentional in my book.
The ref doesn't have the benefit of slow-mo replays though. At full speed it looked deliberate, so he called it as he saw it. The Aussie players pointing at the big screen for him to look at it again was too late after he already brandished the card. A good argument for video-review refereeing for the major decisions as is becoming more common in other sports now. Ditto with the disallowed USA goal, an off-field ref with video replay would probably have allowed it.

Edit - I reckon that was headed by the Italian not the Kiwi so it was fair onside.
Edit #2 - Italians rolling around on the ground in pain and anguish while glancing up to see if the ref is looking - nothing unexpected there.
Edit #3 - Italians milking a penalty - nothing unexpected there. He actually fell over theatrically *after* the NZ player let go.
Reid hit the cross with his head so it was off side .. though he also pushed the italian defender so it could also be ruled an offensive foul ... luck for NZ the referee saw neither

I played it over a couple of times frame by frame in EyeTv and it looks to have come off the Italian defender's head. Reid's head was behind his. Correct call imo.

Awful officiating. And once again great drama from the Italians. This ref is giving Coulibaly a run for worst ref.
Even if it came off an Italian head rather than a New Zealand noggin, if Smeltz was in an offside position then the goal shouldn't stand.
Of course it should. He was onside when the free-kick was played, it hit only a defender on the way through, so he was on-side.
