The Italian chap in our office hasn't spoken yet...
Well, who would have predicted this?

Certainly not the Italian chap in our office who, at the time of writing, still hasn't spoken. :D
I'm not sure the Italian chap in our office has actually moved. I looked over at him when I first read your comment, looked over again and he's in EXACTLY the same position

It really is true, European teams don't do well in the Southern Hemisphere. Italy and France out, England and Germany could have gone out yesterday, Spain are by no means safe. Meanwhile the five south american sides have played 13 games, won 10, drawn 3, lost 0.

Any chance Chile beats Spain tomorrow?

New Zealand did alright. Expected to be the whipping boys but they go out undefeated as well as being instrumental in relegating the current champions to the bottom of the group and out.

Good to see them playing in All Black too. They should make that their permanent home kit.

Well, who would have predicted this?

In the old days of 2 pts for a win, they would have gone through as second with those three draws.

Well done to the All Whites! It's a shame they are out - nobody woulkd accuse them of playing flowing, attractive football but they showed resilience and no fear. With Australia out of Oceana for qualifying purposes, we can expect to see the Kiwis again at the WC.

I'll just note here that both finalists from the 2006 WC are now out, having embarrassed themselves in the group stage. As noted above, the Europeans seem out of sorts playing in the Southern Hemisphere...that doesn't bode well for the Old World in Brazil next time. Spain and Germany still look decent, but Brazil, Argentina and even Chile look more comfortable.

It's not the new ball screwing them over, it's that the ball is rotating in the opposite direction now like water down the drain (counter-clockwise in N. hemisphere and clockwise in S. hemisphere). :p

Another attendance nightmare for FIFA. Japan vs Denmark looks like it's half empty.

I'm really confused why CBC is playing Japan vs Denmark rather than Cameroon vs Netherlands on the main network. Netherlands is like the most supported team in Canada besides England!
