Damn England were bad. Johnson and Rooney really looked like they didn't give a stuff.

We were playing in red right? Stringing 2 passes together looked like a massive chore.

And when we really, really needed a goal... Fabio brings on Emile :(

I'd say I'm upset, but really I've been here before. Three rubbish performances and a sneaky win against a 'minor' nation. Quelle surprise.

Well, congratulations to Germany and best of luck against Argentina or Mexico. Even if your team goes no further this time as these players mature you're going to be the force to beat in the Euros. There's energy and a lot of talent there.

Our millionaire superstars, however, and the entire FA organisation that structures English football, should be thrown in a bin bag and drowned in the Thames. That is all.

Indeed, congratulations to Germany, and in particular the Germany supporters who frequent these parts.

Here's a highlight and lowlight package of the second half:

It's all my fault. I'm now a perfect none out of three in my predictions. I'm a jinx! :)

how was your prediction for evenings game ? argentina ?... i hope we will see an upset there ;)

that said for the "if the second goal is(n't) allowed the game will turn out different"
as somebody 'enoying' german television: guess how often i have heard that the last 20 years ? ... honestly i would like a euro for each time

that said england lost their game in the midfield ... barry simply was playing against players way out of his league... covering lampard/gerrard going forward against the likes of özil, müller, khedira, schweisnteiger ?

and while the english center backs simply were too slow ... it's the side backs who lost the game ... they couldn't cover either podolski/özil or müller/özil coming over the wings

on the other side: there were quite a few problems on the german side which the english simply couldn't capitalize
mertesacker played rather weak today.. and also lahm had to work a lot on the right side... meanwhile Friedrich very likely played the game of his life and boateng had a quiet afternoon
also podolski seemed never even bothering defending on the left side
also a catastrophic keeper for the german in the first half ... and in the second he completly recovered

that said: currently on TV: Müller greeting his grand parents in the first interview (hilarious), and schweinsteiger saying that he isn't too happy with how they gave away the game after the 2:0 and how they have to improve on that

and you have to give respect to the english fans applauding after the game ... that's the fans we want to see at a football game .... instead of those who leave 10 minutes early

Alas, no, Mexico. I tend to predict the underdogs who 'could do it'. None have managed it yet though. No fun or even genuius required in predicting the predictable. :)

News reporter: "so how does it feel to lose in the same round as the USA and be runners up?"

english fan: "we were robbed!!!!!!"

At least the USA had a fighting chance until the goal by Ghana in extra time. The English, on the other hand, was officially finished with that two-goal surge by the German strikers in the second half.

Is it me, or did the engish players not seem to care that they lost. The US team looked devastated at the end of the game yesterday, so did the teams that went out earlier. English players didn't seem bothered.

The USA was devastated since they had high hopes to revive American soccer back in the states like in 1994 and they desperately want the world cup to come back in 2018/2022. By winning they would have brought more supporters to bring the world cup back. The USA was a Cinderella story that never finished in 2010 maybe 2018 or 2022 is that day.

No way in 2010 we can have a goal like that not counted. It doesn't make any sense. Other sports have technology at the highest level and so should football.

It's part of the game. Perfection cannot be acomplished. Not for the players. Not for the referees.

It's hard for us supporters, but we can handle that.

The two British airmen from 'Allo 'Allo would agree with you. ;)

For them, the World Cup is over.

takao - Neuer was flapping all game, made a couple of good saves, but the defenders must dread seeing him come for crosses. Will he be dropped?

theITGuy - Klose found his level.:)

Stuff Euro 2012, clear out and bring in the youngsters. If they qualify, good, if not, experience.

Cheers,
OW

to me he is in contention for player of the game...i'm serious...he played amazing...

-J.-

with müller scoring 2 goals and 1 assist i doubt friedrich is going to make it

seriously: 1 year 2 months ago müller was playing in the third german league as amateur(!)

today as 20 year old(!) ,he played a full season (50 games) at bayern winning the double and runner up in the championsleague
and now played 4 of his 6(!) games for the national team at the world cup
and in 6 games: 3 goals(all at the world cup) and 3 assists...
how he can be as ice cold in this world cup is simply beyond me .... if he doesn't get the "best young player" award i wonder who will

My quick thoughts on the game:

Glad Germany scored a few more in the second half. The disallowed goal was outrageous.

England are a bewildering team. Lots of talent, but tend to give up easily. The rally in the second quarter of the game started because of a goal, but their spirits are crushed so easily.

I don't know what it is, I've never seen Rooney play a good game. Of course, he's had them, but not ones I've seen. That disappoints me because I love to see talented footballers use their talent, even if it's against a team I'm supporting.

You all are talking about Müller, for me the discussion is Özil. I hope Arsenal pick him up!

To be fair, many of us in this country find it equally tiresome.

I noticed that. I was quite glad of it too. How things have changed since 1996, yes '96.
