I think the Dutch will bag a goal though, they are a very dangerous team in the attack - but the game will be decided by Spain's better defense.

Torres probably won't score but he's likely to make a sub appearance, so maybe he'll make a late impact.

I think I predicted a Spain WC Final win way back in thew day (not rocket science, I know), so lets see if I can get at least one prediction right...

I'm expecting a close match either way - the Dutch are certainly good enough to win it, though Spain are the favorites.

As for the third place game - no contest, Germany. Suarez will presumably be back but Forlan is no longer 100%, and the Germans could easily be in the final on their current form.

Not I. Netherlands 2 - Spain 1. Go Oranje!
Good! At last someone got it right! :D

Trouble with those 3rd place games is that it's pretty hard to get into the right frame of mind. Germany should win, but they will still feel terrible. As for Uruguay, I think they will be a bit less disappointed and would like to be 3rd.

I just think Uruguay will try harder.. being the team wanting 3rd place more...

2-2 AET, holland on penalties.

celebration dish:

Ingredients
1 Paul (4 to 5 pounds)
4 stalks celery, medium diced
4 lemons, juiced
1 can large pitted olives, halved
1 clove garlic, minced
3/4 red onion, medium diced
1 tablespoon parsley, chopped
Olive oil
Salt and pepper, to taste

Directions
In large stock pot boil Paul until tender (2 hours). Take out and let cool. When cool, clean and slice. In a large mixing bowl, add celery, juice from the lemons, olives, garlic, onion, parsley, and sprinkle with olive oil. Mix well and season salad with salt and pepper. Remove from mixing bowl and serve at room temperature.

1-0 Netherlands or 1-0 Spain, but definitely not a big scoring game like a 4-2 or something like that.

I tend to think first time winners in any sport really turn on defense more ... ie) baseball, American football, hockey, etc.

This isn't going to be a pushover, it will be fought very hard and it's a one game season come Sunday. Whether that one point comes earlier or at the very end, it will still be one point. Expect unforeseen stupid mistakes on both sides.

I just found an argentinean's Paul site which you can write your question and the two options between that one, and the octopus makes it's decision lol :p

Mac or PC? -> Mac (Paul is genius :) )

I'm thinking of putting a tenner on 3-1 to spain, what do you think?

Spain playing = low scoring game, they might win it 1-0, or 1-1 @ penalties. They just hog the ball the whole time and don't really do much with it and don't let the other team do much with it either.

LOL!! :D

BTW, i agree with the result!

A news report just on TV showed GPO, the octopus at Weymouth Sealife Park (where Paul was actually born), latched onto the Dutch flag when presented with both. So Netherlands to win! :D

and the official candidates for "best young player of the tournament" are (according to german television):

Santos, Mexico
Ayew, Gahna
Müller, Germany

i think we don't need an octopus to predict the winner there

germany vs uruguay is hard to judge... while some germans will be sorely dissapointed and very likely feel quite down, they also have quite a few role-model professionals who will simply do their best no matter what, and those who will tear themselves apart today to go out of the world cup with a bang: Klose wants that goal record, Müller is quite on the 'motivated' side after being banned in the semi final and Schweinsteiger... well playing against him when he is a good mood is hard .. but when he is a in a bad mood... (the 2006 third place game was won by him pretty much alone scoring 2/3 goals)

and wether uruguay has the "hunger to win" ? i don't know...
their defensive playing system sure was exhausting and it already showed against holland.. their concentration has to be high up again and Forlan and Suarez have to have a great day up front

It's disappointing that Özil didn't make that list, I mean from the point of view that he didn't play well enough to make it. I'm looking forward to seeing him develop as a player. Müller too, but I love the way that Özil plays each stage of the game.

I have such a sinking feeling today. Playing for 3rd place is hardly consolation for such a disappointing end to the tournament (for the German side).

Like the Martians in War of the Worlds, the Germans have been laid low by a virus. And Klose has a bad back. I'm sticking with my prediction of a Uruguay victory. ;)

PS. Germany and Uruguay played off for third place the last time Uruguay made it to the semis in 1970. Germany won that one.

Gotta agree. That's the sort of tackle that broke Ramsey's leg. Nasty and dangerous. The full weight and force of a body against a person's shin, only one thing will give. Luckily his foot wasn't planted on the ground so gave way or he wouldn't be walking off the pitch.

EDit - when will some professional goalkeepers learn, never parry the ball straight to an opposing player!

I saw that awful tackle on Ramsey live on TV.... :(

This tackle also sent shivers down my spine. Didn't need a replay to see those studs crash into the shin. Too bad the ref didn't see it.

BTW, Germany 1 up!
Now.. was THAT offside...??
