Hard work from Bayern paid off. Poor game; misplaced passes by the truck load, and a masterclass in diving from Ribery - hope Young wasn't watching. Agree Real don't look like they have the Inter workrate in them.

Well done Reading, off the line at the end  - going by the radio.

And some team in amber won.

Cheers,
OW

Commiserations to Reading, who must now suffer the ignominy of the Premier League next season rather than the ace Championship. But...

I think I can see cambookpro! :D

Chelsea are playing straight-up English longball. Is that Di Matteo in the dugout or Tony Pulis in a mask? I guess the baseball cap would be poking out then...

It's 1-0 to the Blues at half time. The goal was top drog!

Hopefully they will double their lead or at least keep a clean sheet.

Masherano proving again he is suspect at best as a defender or even CM. Puyol is simply getting old and isn't as agile. Barca's defence is the weakest i've seen in recent times.

Valdes not an outstanding keeper either as he has once again shown.

Barca has never looked like a rock-solid team in defense, though they are good enough most of the time. Their dominance comes from their midfield and forwards.

With that being said, I think Chelsea's defense is pretty suspect as well. Gary Cahill is a decent player, but against Messi? Terry has zero pace, if caught out of position he's toast (though his positioning is usually very good).

1-0 to Chelsea would favor Barca IMO. Chelsea need to hope their strategy holds in the second half and they can sneak a second goal while keeping a clean sheet. I get the feeling that if they try to be more attacking-minded they will be punished.

Well done Chelsea but lets not forget Barca just forgot how to score...could've been 2,3,4 goals to Barca. Nou Camp will be even harder. Wider pitch and all.

Really don't feel like playing Chelsea on Sat now.

Fair play to Chelsea, finally someone takes advantage of Alves. Need to keep Drogba fit, and more of the same - Barcelona fluffing their lines and a referee who doesn't favour them.

daneoni,

Unlikely Arsenal will face the same eleven.

Cheers,

I can't see Barca missing that many chances a second time. Even if Chelsea play another excellent match, they will concede for sure.

Drobga showed great skill and strength, but should be hung, drawn and quartered for all that diving.

Has recently been making Busquets look like a saint...something i didn't know was possible.

I remember being really irritated with Drogba's diving around 2005-2006ish, but in recent years he seemed to be diving less often.

Until tonight.

Rangers employed a similar approach in a draw against Barca a few years ago and they were utterly slaughtered for it by the press which was a bit unfair, I think.

I very much hope that Chelsea manage to get a nil-nil at the Camp Nou.

Chelsea will get slaughtered at the Nou Camp.
Doubt Messi and co will want to face the ignominy of losing to a petty English side!

PS Think Messi's first touch is almost as good as Jason Roberts's...

By the time the second legs are played we will be laughing at this kind of speculation, but as it stands it looks like a Chelsea - Bayern final...

Really though, does any team feel safe taking a 1 goal lead to the Nou Camp?

...And apropos our previous discussion of Ashley Young's diving (and diving in general), I'm proud to point out that as of last season, MLS has implemented a system of retroactive fines and suspensions for diving - even if the ref saw it and issued a foul/yellow card. It has already been invoked on a number of occasions. Bravo MLS.
