Reading winning me some money again following a big win over Southampton – I'll be owing cambookpro a pint at this rate. :D

:D
Honestly though we'd go on to lose by 2 or 3 when they equalised, especially when Brian brought on another striker. But as I still have yet to learn, trust the bald god!!
There was definitely something Messiesque about Le Fondre's second goal. Round the keeper then blasted from a tight angle!

'We are top of the league, say we are top of the league...'

Liverpool in the Final thanks to Andy Carroll.

Horrible incident in Italy. Udinese player Piermario Morosini has passed on after collapsing on the pitch during a Serie B match.

Awful news, and a reminder of how fortunate Muamba has been as he continues in his recovery.

The Italians have screening processes in place which make this sort of thing a rarity, but it looks like in this instance a problem either wasn't picked up or has developed as the player has aged.

A terrible tragedy, and coming so soon after the relief of Muamba's continued recovery. Despite all the precautions these things do still happen.

2 goals in two games. That's officially a scoring streak.

Spot on.

There were some questions raised about the ambulance entrance being blocked off by a police car, you can argue the overall significance if true but shame Morosini wasn't given the best chance of fighting for his life, every second counts.

To me it highlights that some areas can be improved upon regardless of league status (Serie B or lower) and I'd hate for the opportunity to be wasted, rare as these events are.

RIP to Morosini and the 96.

Funkatronic, it was that horrible tragedy that finally forced people to realize how dangerous the football stadia in the UK were. Based on the recommendations of the Taylor Report in 1990, all the major UK stadiums converted to all-seater configuration and better crowd controls imposed, which in many ways changed the "feel" of the crowd in the stands. Indeed, you can tell the Taylor Report even influence football stadia design all over Europe, because if you look at a really modern stadium in Germany like Allianz Arena near Munich, that stadium was designed with modern crowd control methods in mind.

It's worth mentioning though that the Taylor Report didn't place any blame on terracing or standing areas for the Hillsborough disaster, more so the role the police played in their mishandling of the situation, and also the antiquated safety facilities at the ground (which were by no means unique at the time).

Indeed, many stadia in Germany – the Allianz Arena included – feature 'safe standing' areas that can be quickly and easily converted into seating for international and European matches where standing is prohibited due to FIFA and UEFA regulations.

Furthermore, all-seaters are only compulsory in England in the top two divisions – and newly promoted teams to the Championship have a few seasons grace to convert their terracing. As an example, earlier this season I was able to stand on the away terracing at Peterborough's London Road in our league fixture there. It was brilliant. :)

Philadelphia 1-0 Columbus. Philly are not a good team, but our finishing was absolutely criminal. Ex-Crew holding midfielder Brian Carroll controlled the middle of the park for Philly, and we flubbed chance after chance. Last season's offensive woes continue despite the off-season personnel shuffles. Bah.

I think its a cultural phenomena as well. Germans seem not to have problems with drinking in stadia, or at least their problems express themselves in less hazardous ways than they did in 1970s-80s England. But it really came down, as you say Jaffa, to an unsafe stadium and mistakes in policing. Even today, poor policing can create an environment conducive to easily preventable tragedies.

It's unfortunate that a serious approach to safety at stadia only took place after major tragedy; it's also unfortunate that the tragedy played out in such a controversial manner, so that the matter remains an open wound for some to this day.

Ashley Young is shameless.

He is a total disgrace. This is one of those instances where the FA should be handing out retrospective bans based on TV evidence. Even if he was actually fouled (and I think he was not), he clearly turns the incident into an elaborate stage production with his outrageous flop. United don't need to cheat to beat Villa.

EDIT: What a shot by Drogba!

EDIT2: What a dreadful call on the second goal...my word!

...and Chelsea and Utd get another free one courtesy of the Ref.

Dodgy decisions galore. Another Non-Penalty and Phantom Goal...not that it mattered in the end (thanks for being useless again Spurs )

I think the phantom goal really changed the game. Spurs had to stretch themselves and it left the door open for more goals. The ref is going to be horrified with himself when he watches the replays.

Terry is such a joke. He flails around wildly fouling people and it's called "bravery". Give me a break. I will take pleasure watching Barca's front men destroy him. With that being said, Chelsea were the better side. Spurs didn't take all their chances and Chelsea tore them open at times.

There is no way Liverpool will win the FA Cup against this Chelsea team. They are too dangerous in the attack and Liverpool are too weak in the same area. I hope Kenny keeps Carra on the bench for that one.

You never know, Suarez and Carroll :)p) may prove a nuisance. Can't count Gerrard out either nor Bellamy. With Mata pocketed Chelsea are significantly weaker and i fancy Skirtel and Agger against Drogba. Definitely not Carra. Hate to be harsh but Carra and King should hang up their boots. I think it's time. Becoming less reliable and more liable.

That said the momentum is definitely with them (Chelsea) now and i'm more wary of playing them. Here's hoping Barca make quick work of them on Wed.

Spurs (and City) are learning why we got rid of Ade and Gallas. Talented but lack consistency and will surely let you down eventually. Ditto for Nasri and Clichy which is why we have barely suffered without them if at all.

I think Liverpool can cause Chelsea problems, but in a cup final where both teams are massively pumped up to win, Chelsea have a clear edge in skill and I can't see them losing unless they make some big mistakes or give away fluke goals. Liverpool are just not that good right now. It's true we've ground it out in some big matches this season against superior teams, but you can never count on that happening. I just hope it's a close match.

Wirelessly posted

Young and Suarez sitting in a tree... Well, he is getting there; he's mastered diving and being gobby, needs to concentrate on raising his hand for handball every other attack, biting, punching, kicking the midriff, a bit of racist banter, and acquiring a set of comedy teeth. He can then be sold to Liverpool.

Can both teams lose the FA Cup? JT edges the evil stakes, come on Liverpool.

Mediocre beat Aston Villa.

And yeah, the referees. JHC!

Cheers,
OW

By the way, why was Friedel left on the bench for Spurs? I think he would have kept the score lower - certainly I think he would have saved Lampard's goal.

Apparently Cudicini was Harry's FA Cup keeper of choice.

Cudicini has been playing all of the cup matches, so Harry played him in this one as well. The announcer (was it Martin Tyler? I forget) said that Friedel had no problem being on the bench.

I didn't know that, thanks. Friedel is 40, so maybe it's a good idea to manage his minutes. But I think he might have made an impact here. Still, if Cudicini has gone this far in the cup it would have been unfair to yank him now.
