Keep it coming boys. It won't bring the cup here but it feels good anyway.

Terry is being absolutely schooled and I'm loving it. Liverpool is still sloppy in the finishing department...it should be 5-0.

I have a couple of quid on this game being under 3.5 goals, I anticipated quite a tight affair.

John Terry having an absolute nightmare, on the one occasion when I can't enjoy it and I want him to be defensively sound. The bloody git.

EDIT: And as I hit 'submit reply', the ball trickles in. You may now do your worst, Liverpool.

Reina has been suspect at times this season.

Also what has happened to Sturridge.

Sorry Jaffa, generally I'd say 3.5 goals or less would be a safe bet in any game Liverpool is involved in...;)

Liverpool are angry, playing a bit wild. They need to settle a little and make some more precise attacks (ha!) rather than shooting wildly at every opportunity.

Reina has been solid and consistent overall, but it seems like he has at least one or two major screwups in his locker every season.

So no Top 4 finish for Chelski this season then...unless they win the CL which i doubt will happen.

And that's that. Chelsea leaves Anfield with a big bloody nose and no top four finish. After watching that performance, Bayern are probably now heartbroken that Terry is out of the final...

Liverpool left it late to get their win over Chelsea, last weekend would have been better. ;)
But knowing that Chelsea will not get the converted 4th place is great.

Any thing that upsets Chelsea is OK by me. :D

anyone got a link for the europa final today?

Rangers supporters (or rahter a vocal minority of them) have shot themselves in the foot on this one with their Anti-Yank rhetoric. Last time I checked Craig Whyte was a Scotsman, and we all know how his ownership ended. Everyone wants an Abramovich or Sheikh Mansour as an owner these days, but those are pipe dreams. It just strikes me as ingorant scapegoating.

It was unfortunate but I don't think Miller understood football... two fans displayed a banner as he does have a history of asset stripping companies he's bought over. That might not have been the case here, we don't know because he didn't engage the fans and say what his intentions were. If only other owners would listen so attentively whenever fans shouted 'sack the board'! Besides, the banner was only a small part of it, the worrying reason he pulled out seems to be the administrators have been disingenuous with some facts and that only became apparent during due diligence when all the data was available. And from the sounds of that, it does not seem that the football club is viable from the point of view of some businessman trying to turn it around and make some money. The only way this will be turned around is if Rangers are purchased by a fans collective who understand that they will not get a return on investment but ownership of a football club means more to them than the balance sheet.

With that being said, there's no guarantee that Miller would have been a good owner. But the remaining bids come with less money and more conditions.

Spot on.

...

Also what has happened to Sturridge.

Lost form in time for England. I was hoping he would keep his finishing and sort out his selfishness; could then be in the squad as a utility forward.

How did Essien, Ivanovic and Suarez stay on the pitch? Though the latter would've been clobbering thin air if the Serbian had been sent. Caroll covering his face . Will Hodgson pick JT?

Kits; a piece of gingham for Emmy-Lou and Roo?

Cheers,
OW

Steve Kean is out of his mind for wanting to stay at Blackburn. No good can come of it.

It was unfortunate but I don't think Miller understood football...

I didn't see anything about Miller that suggested he'd be a great owner. I think there are a lot of businessmen around who see failing football clubs as a business opportunity. 'Turnaround Guys' buy the failing club, pick up the pieces, get it making money again and then sell at a big profit. This is a different kind of ownership from the Abramovic or Mansour paradigm, which is just a hobby for men so wealthy they use Bill Millers as furniture for their mansions.

Miller might have been just another Hicks/Gillette. The sad thing for Rangers is they can't afford to be choosy now.

I agree that the banners were certainly less of a factor than the state of the books; but after lurking on some Rangers' forums the stuff people were saing about Miller was just plain ignorant. To be fair, many supporters on the same sites pointed out that Craig Whyte is Scottish, but to a vocal minority of Rangers's fans it's better to go after 'Asset-Stripping Yank' boogeymen than face reality.

It's also sick to read some of the stuff some Celtic supporters are saying about the whole affair. The level of tribalism and sectarianism among the Old Firm is completely mind-blowing.

Grant Holt - get him on the plane. I also think Roy should obviate the Rio-EBJT issue by simply leaving one or even both out of the squad. Probably Terry. Ferdinand is an injury risk anymore but has more pace when healthy. England need to get rid of the Golden Generation - I think it would be better for Roy to take a young team (or at least some new faces) and get knocked out in the group stage than bring the usual suspects and bow out at best one or two matches later.

i too think it's long overdue to leave the "golden generation" at home, but i think it's too late for that now...
yet another tournament with terry, lampard, gerrard
.... sometimes it simply is better to have a unexpierenced but young ambitious squad with "elan" is worth a lot more just look at Ghana,Germany at the last worldcup

meanwhile the Germans have anounced their extended squad naming 27 (4 still to be removed):

Goalkeepers:
Manuel Neuer (Bayern München),
Marc-Andre ter Stegen (Borussia Mönchengladbach),
Tim Wiese (Werder Bremen),
Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover 96).

Defenders:
Jerome Boateng, Holger Badstuber, Philipp Lahm (Bayern München)
Per Mertesacker (FC Arsenal)
Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund)
Benedikt Höwedes (Schalke 04)
Marcel Schmelzer (Borussia Dortmund)

Midfielders:
Mesut Özil, Sami Khedira (Real Madrid)
Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern München)
Marco Reus (Borussia Mönchengladbach)
Mario Götze, Ilkay Gündogan (Borussia Dortmund)
Sven Bender (Borussia Dortmund)
Lars Bender (Bayer Leverkusen)
Andre Schürrle (Bayer Leverkusen)
Julian Draxler (Schalke 04)
Lukas Podolski (1. FC Köln).

Attackers:
Cacau (VfB Stuttgart)
Mario Gomez (Bayern München)
Miroslav Klose (Lazio Rom)

at least that puts an end to the typical german discussions about which of the half a dozen german goalkeepers gets a chance for the 2 goalkeeper benchsitting positions ...
the situation that the germans will have keepers like Adler,Leno, Weidenfeler,Baumann, Butt, Ulreich sitting at home is simply absurd

also i really hope julian draxler get's the cut for the final squad: 19 years old and has never played in the national squad.. would be a great opportunity to make the debut at the euro 2012

Well, Barmby is officially out of the door. The statement issued by the club and carrying the name of Ehab Allam states the reason for the dismissal were comments Barmby made in the media relating to transfer policy and funds. It's very, very harsh, and the whole thing is a bit of a shambles. It's a sad day for the club, and I think the Allams have seriously underestimated the high regard Barmby is held in by the club's supporters.
Have you started a "Megson Out" campaign yet?

You have been warned!!

Hodgson has 2 friendlies and his memory.

Oldies:

It pains me, but Lampard has a knack for finding the net. Gerrard, Terry and Ferdinand should be assessed from training and 45 minutes.

Rough Diamonds :eek::

Have a look at Holt, Carroll, Leon Britton - the one who stopped Manchester United :) - and Nathan Dyer - reminds me of a character in 'Rev' :D. And others I can't recall.

I wonder if Falcao will come to the Premiership and to which club. Top player.

Doesn't look like he'd be bullied. His price tag probably means Chelsea or Manchester City if he plays in the EPL.

takao,

Germany will be easy; play 6-0-4, bypass the midfield with long balls to the 4 attackers who've isolated Mertesacker, then put the ball past the dodgy keeper.:D

Cheers,

It looks like Wolves will name Norwegian Stale Solbakken as their new permanent manager.

As well as having a name that can often be used to describe our performance on the pitch, his main plus point seems to be he's not Terry Connor. I really haven't got a clue how this will pan out.

Liverpool have unveiled their new kit for next season, now made by Warrior rather than Adidas...

scouse_1.jpgscouse_2.jpg

I like it. For one thing, I think I've mentioned before but I liked the Liverbird stood alone on the shirt rather than surrounded by the rather ugly and over elaborate crests Liverpool have sported since the early 1990s. It looks much more striking now, and overall the shirt has a very pleasing traditional look about it.

Good effort, Warrior.

In all seriousness, Hodgson should get a free pass in this tournament unless he does something monumentally boneheaded. He has essentially no time to make significant changes to the way England play unless he picks a bunch of uncapped players. Expect more of the same.

I haven't gone looking yet but I bet a lot of Liverpool fans will complain about the simplification of the crest - particularly the deletion of the flames...but I very much like it, it is elegant and unfussy. I'm picky about collared shirts but this one looks good.

I saw this link showing the away and third kits (not sure if they are real or a hoax/leaked prototypes)...away kit looks good but the third is just...weird.

I see that Newcastle Utd had released their away kit for next year:

Not too bad, however the 'keepers jersey looks awful. or Tim Krul can't sell shirts.

Your Lordship, meet the English media. English media, meet Lord Blackadder. :p

You're totally correct, of course. This summer's tournament should be used as a chance to bring some new blood in and give them some competitive experience against good opposition. Of course, there's still a place for the experience of the older players and they still have a role to play but we should now be beginning to phase them out.

The approach should be to go out there and have a good stab at it, but accept that this is the first step on redeveloping the team and not the be all and end all.

Seeing shots of the detailing, the flames are present on the shirt, albeit not part of the crest. They're embroidered – flanking a '96' – on the back of the shirt at the base of the neck.

And on the subject of remembrance, today marks the anniversary of one of English football's saddest days, the Valley Parade fire.

Should I expect my phone to be hacked now? Baldrick filled it with pictures of turnips, and as a result it's now pretty far up his backside - so all they'll learn from it is what his digestive tract sounds like.

I think that the one thing the England national side needs most at the moment is to not be burdened by any sort of expectations.

And on the subject of remembrance, today marks the anniversary of one of English football's saddest days, the Valley Parade fire.

Every time I watch the film footage of that fire I'm amazed that only 56 people died. As horrific as it was, it could have been worse still if not for heroic efforts. It makes one appreciate modern stadium design & policing (when done properly), not to mention the medical staff (as the Muamba incident showed).

A few decades ago people died in fires and crushes. Now the worst things that happen in English stadia are Lee Cattermole tackles. The lessons came at a big cost, but at least some appear to have been learned. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said worldwide.
