JC,

I noticed on the premier league website that they have launched the new season of fantasy football. Want to do the honors of setting up the league/cup again?

Temptation strong...must re...sist making gibe about trophy and sponsor...want...to...play...fantasy football...he will...ban...me
Of course I won't ban you, I'm not that petty. ;)

However, when I come to sort out your shirt graphic you may just find that your team has a new sponsor... :p

Already done, fella. ;)

The League and Cup are both up and running and accepting teams old and new. Those who took part last year should be entered into the League automatically when they register their team, PM me for the Cup code though. New managers can PM me for both codes.

We had 20 teams taking part in the League last season which was tremendous, but let's see if we can do even better this campaign. :)

Wow, should have looked two posts above mine. Can you PM me the cup code?

Thanks.

The FF website is much better this year, much faster.

I've been off the grid for a week, just got back into town after a long bumpy flight in a little Cessna 185 over Mt Blackburn and I'm trying to get the buzz of the motor out of my ears...So much has happened in the footballing world...

As for the women's World Cup, I'm disappointed we lost the final but USA is a top team and they played like winners in some exciting matches. Well done! USA is a force in women's football, and I'm proud of the way we play.

Sorry to disappoint you Lord Blackadder but Newcastle's Joey Barton has been banned from the USA and won't be able to assault the Columbus Crew players during their pre-season tour. :)

Thank goodness. We can't afford any injuries right now, especially at center back since we just got rid of Liverpudlian center back Andy Iro.

Liverpool; as Jaffa says, get those high balls in.

They all count...I'll take the goals, however they come. Suarez doesn't need balls lumped into the box to score, but it makes sense to get balls to Carroll's head. So far I'm pleased with the acquisitions, though we are a little crowded in midfield, a tad shallow at the back and Marco Bueno is merely a prospect, not a proven player yet.

Meanwhile, word here is that Jimmy Bullard has been suspended for two weeks – apparently the lovable cockney turned up for training in an 'unacceptable state'.

I think that means he was pissed.

The Bullard saga is going from bad to worse.

That's a shameless plug for all of you lot to get signed up, by the way. ;)

On it. ;)

I think the early start is new this season...it's only three matches or so, so I'm not sure it will make a difference in the postponement issue unless they are planning on a winter break.

Pre-season result
Hull City 3 Liverpool 0

Heh. :D

When I saw this lineup:

Doni
Kelly Carragher Ayala Robinson
Poulsen Coady
Cole Aquilani Maxi
Ngog

Dalglish was perhaps using the match as a means to advertise players he wants rid of (Poulsen, Aquilani and N'Gog I would imagine, and possibly Cole).

I hope that Hull City continues this good form into the regular season...and that this result is no indication of Liverpool's form going into the season. ;)

None the less, there's some quality in there – and half time saw a lot of arguably 'first choice' players take to the pitch for Liverpool. So not a bad afternoon for us.

I didn't go, but the match is being shown on Liverpool TV in ten minutes – we get a couple of club channels free as part of our TV subscription and this is one of the few cases where I'll bother with them. It'll be interesting to watch with what I suspect will be a commentary team with a very strong Liverpool bias.

I picked up my season pass from the ticket office earlier today – also in buying tickets for today were a number of young gentlemen sporting Liverpool shirts, which seemed somewhat at odds with their Hull accents. I hope they enjoyed the match. :D

Finally! A new Housemartins album after all these years.
It's Happy Hour again. :p

True, especially in the second half. Your boys did a job.

Meanwhile, Columbus Crew face Newcastle United on Wednesday at Crew Stadium. I suspect we will make a few changes to the lineup after today's league match against Portland. We are in mid-season form, but against a Premier League side we'll always be huge underdogs, especially if we put out a "B" team as suspected. I just hope we give it a go.

Man U face MLS All-Stars on Wednesday after their inevitable steamrolling of Chicago today. I really hope the MLS XI don't get humiliated like they did last year against United, or the way Seattle got pounded 7-0 the other day by Fergie's boys. I understand it's just a money-spinning affair but I hate seeing the lopsided results. At least the other Premier League teams are having a tougher time of it here in the states. Hopefully we can keep Chicharito quiet. But with OAP and United shill Beckham out there for us I'm not expecting much. I'm also annoyed that no Crew player made the All Stars this year, we have at least a couple strong candidates such as our keeper Will Hesmer and center back Chad Marshall.

EDIT: Copa America Final Result - Uruguay 3-0 Paraguay.

A great performance by Uruguay who now surpass Argentina as the nation with the most Copa America titles. Suarez had a goal and an assist, and Forlan scored a brace. What a deadly strike partnership.

Suarez looked extremely sharp. Can't wait to see him on the pitch for Liverpool.

Sorry, your Lordship – you've been mauled. :p

:D:eek: I like it.

The sooner Liverpool are rid of Aquilani, N'Gog, Poulsen and probably Cole the better. We need to make some cash from these players and get them off the roster.

Columbus 1-0 Portland. Once again goals prove elusive for the Crew, though we took all three points at home via a deflected Eddie Gaven shot that was apparently ruled an own goal. Our defense is reasonably solid but we continue to offer little threat going forward. At the moment all of our starting strikers are injured...

Columbus are tied for first place in the eastern conference, though in a single table we'd be sixth in the league. Still not terrible considering we are a largely rebuilt team this season.

EDIT2: The Man City - LA Galaxy friendly is into its second half but has already provided some drama. Gael Clichy fell heavily during a challenge and got up frighteningly wobbly - he had no idea where he was, possibly concussed?

Mario 'Bib'otelli has had another comedy match, scoring a penalty but showing little commitment and then publicly confronting Mancini on the touchline after being subbed off for his behavior.

It's been a busy summer weekend in football...

I go on holiday for a couple of weeks and the footie season goes and starts without me:rolleyes:

i've not noticed before but do they always get a 3 week jump? or are they trying to prevent PP games due to inclement weather?

The SPL are normally a week earlier than England, this is the first time it's been this early. The traditional holiday in this part of the country is the Glasgow Fair, where all the shipyards and factories closed for a fortnight and we were forced to take our holidays now (and many still do) so having the football start in the middle weekend of the Fair is really odd.

I think the early start is new this season...it's only three matches or so, so I'm not sure it will make a difference in the postponement issue unless they are planning on a winter break.

I think they get a 2 week break before Christmas but the main reason is to give teams some experience before the European games start.

I just wanted to add that Mario Balotelli is one of the most entertaining footballers I have ever watched. I hope he never stops being insane.

The lad's been guilty of some weapons-grade buffoonery. However, as long as he continues to entertain us with it it's all good. :D

Here's his latest exploit that his Lordship is referring to – he was substituted by an angry Roberto Mancini barely half-an-hour into Manchester City's pre-season friendly against David Beckham after fluffing a bit of showboating when clean through on goal. His team only had a one goal lead at that point, and Mancini was angered that the striker didn't seem to be taking the match seriously nor respecting their opponents.

I would never, in a million years, want Balotelli playing for my club - but he is a one-man circus and a treasure trove of entertainment. 11 yellows and 2 reds last season - I hope he can improve on those numbers this time around! :D

Between Balotelli, Tevez, Adebayor and Bellamy, Man City must have the maddest strikeforce in world football.
