Well, to provide a bit of inspiration for your boys it seems they'll be turning out against Spain sporting some new polyester rags...

View attachment 305448

I quite like it too, the badge reminds me of the Scotland shirts of the early 80s. I am quote concerned, however, that we change outfits just before playing Spain in a vital match!

I think Adidas only make replica Scotland shirts starting at size XXXL... ;)

I reckon the shirt looks pretty good, in all seriousness.

Praise indeed from an Englishman! We're not quite that size yet, not until I introduce Scotland to The Parmo.

So you win 1 game and now you're talking about taking on the world champions...

Are you sure you're not English? ;)

We've actually got a good record against the top teams, in Euro 2008 we put up good fights against then World Cup finalists France and Italy (beating France twice no less). I think we know how to rise against the big teams, but come unstuck against the lesser or similar leveled teams (Georgia).

Good luck Fuzzy!

Speaking as an American, I have to say that that "dish" looks just as disgusting as any fast food I've ever come across in the States - with the exception of the Heart Attack Grill and its 8,000 calorie burger. Oof. Bring on the 4XL replica shirts...and a hospital bed.

oh well a 0:0 of austriaagainst Kazachstan as the final result of a disappointing EURO qualifier .. now onwards to the Worldcup qualifier ..

meanwhile: UEFA lunacy continues: Germany sails smoothly through the qualification with 10 victories out of 10 games and 34:7 goals and yet in the EURO group draw will be put into pot _2_ because pot 1 is occupied by spain, netherlands and the two hosts

any bets on a group of death with spain and germany ?

Hmm. As it stands, Bosnia-Hercegovina are beating France. If that doesn't change, the eastern Europeans will top the group and force France into the play-offs. A potential play-off rematch against Ireland, anyone?

In meaningless friendly news, USA 0-1 Ecuador.

A pretty similar performance to that against Honduras, but this time we didn't get the goals that our overall play merited. During the Gold Cup under Bradley, poor finishing was our undoing. Under Klinsmann, we are creating just as many if not more chances but still not scoring goals. We had 18 shots on goal and yet failed to score. Ecuador absolutely stole a win with almost their only attack of the match.

I can't blame Klinsmann for our bad finishing, even though the press is highlighting his 1-3-1 record as manager. Our attacking players simply need to convert their chances.

The biggest positive was that Oguchi Onyewu had another good performance at center back - he seems to have finally recovered from his long-term injuries.

More income for the top teams does not improve the competition - it kills it.
Indeed, and there's the argument that a less competitive League is a less attractive product to market.

Sometimes, I just wish all the rich clubs would finally bugger off and do this EuroSuperDuper League that keeps getting brought up, and leave the rest of us to get on with the proper football.

to get on with the proper football.
Talking of 'proper football', we've had our best start to a season in 30 years and while many fans are happy with that stat, I can't get over the fact it has Gary Megson's name connected with it

I'm dead set against it. Ayre is drooling at the business posibilities of less regulation, at the very time when more is needed. La Liga is not a good example to follow. The top clubs already have too much clout within the league.

I agree 100% from an American perspective.

Here in the USA, the National Football League is ENORMOUSLY successful because television rights fees from CBS, ESPN, Fox, and NBC are equally split among all 32 teams in the league, which means even a small-market team can be highly successful (e.g., the Green Bay Packers, who play in by far the smallest market but many of their fans who own season tickets live in Milwaukee a few hours' drive south). Meanwhile, Major League Baseball--because each team has its own TV rights package--suffers from extreme in equities in revenue, as noted by the New York Yankees taking in US$400 million per year from the Yankees-owned YES Network cable channel; no other team even comes close in terms of such revenue.

People like Ayre and others only look at the revenue clubs like Barca, Real and Man U are pulling in - but they don't look at it in terms of a system of leagues. You can't just pull the most popular clubs out of their league context and attribute their earnings to the club alone. The top Premier League clubs are still league clubs, within a league system. They don't make all that money in a vacuum. In the long term, they are not bigger than the league - just as no player is bigger than a club.

Big clubs find ways to advantage themselves even within a more controlled league like the Bundesliga or MLS - in both cases there are teams with bigger markets and more money than others, and they tend to have more success on the pitch - but the rules prevent the kind of domination we see in La Liga and the Premier League. This setup is much better for everyone except for owners and agents out to make unlimited profits on their investments. And if that is what JW Henry is after he can go straight to hell.

Financial rules should not favor bigger clubs. Otherwise, you might as well adopt sporting rules that favor bigger clubs as well (they've earned it, right?). Perhaps Man U's opponents should always have to start with ten men. Or Real's opponents should have to play with an open goal. Or Chelsea's opponents play with a goal that is 1 foot wider and taller. Or Liverpool gets to kick their opponents without repercussion. Or the Argentinians get to handball- oh. ;)

UEFA BS - two match ban plus the one game Hate Tariff.

I have not read any official explanation for why a three match ban was imposed, but I find it hard to believe that the player, the FA, or even the ref can find any mitigating factors in Wayne's favor. He wildly barged into Dzudovic and then kicked him on purpose. He looked crazed. I can understand why England fans will not want to lose him for three matches but it was a flagrant, violent (if not particularly dangerous) foul. He obviously deserves a ban, but I don't know enough about UEFA's disciplinary precedents to argue for a specific length.

Jurgen Klinsmann has lined up a friendly for the USA against France for Nov 11th.

I won't be watching Big Derby this weekend because it's on at 3:40am local time, with no rebroadcast. Thanks ESPN.

Anyways, we're going to lose and it will ruin my day, so it's better not to watch. I think the game might have a lot of goals in it. If by some miracle we pull off a result I'll just have to acquire the game from the 'net. We have a good record against United at home over the last several years, so hope springs eternal.

RE: the rumblings about not taking Rooney to Euro 2012 - it would be foolish to leave your best striker at home just because he's banned for three matches. If the USA was in the same situation with Clint Dempsey, he'd still be one of the first names on my squad sheet.

UP THE OWLS!

^A good come-from-behind performance, pachyderm. :)

New England 0-3 Columbus. Andres Mendoza scored his 12th and 13th goals on either side of midfielder Dilly Duka's first for Columbus. Mendoza is just two goals of the leading scorer spot, with one regular season game left to play. The result guarantees us a playoff spot.

The Spurs-Newcastle match was quite entertaining. Pardew's men look like a decent side. Neither club will br happy about leaking three goals though.

Oh, yeah - Big Derby. I didn't see the match so I can only comment on the result - whatever Fergie's reasoning for rotating the squad, it contributed to the draw, but I doubt Fergie played for one. Hernandez continues to be unstoppable. Good to see a goal from Gerrard. I'll take the point.
