Thankfully no, they wore their regular white away shirts.

I suppose the black and yellow Cardiff third would clash with our black and amber — actually, it would clash with just about anything!

yeah. hideous defined.

The Wednesday won and so did Athletic Club!

Bolton look completely lost at the moment. Down 4-0 within the first 27 minutes.

As long as we don't get relegated and/or have to play the Europa.

Never imagined i would be saying these words.

*sigh*...wake me up August 2012.

In other news, I was most delighted to see that QPR got thrashed 6-0 by Fulham.

QPR. Heh. :D

Muwahahaha :)

I was certainly suprised Fulham had 6 goals in them, that's normally their half season tally :)

Wonder what Colin has to say...

Another win for the Wednesday, and we're equal on points with 2nd place MK Dons, who keep winning thanks to goals from on loan Clinton Morrison

I'm disappointed that Dempsey only managed to score once in that match.

In other news, Columbus actually won a match last night, beating DC United 2-1. That snaps our 6 game winless streak (we'd lost our last three in a row). Despite our horrible form and decidedly negative goal difference we are still in second place in the east, which means an automatic playoff spot if we can hold on to it.

Unfortunately, we are miles behind the best teams right now, but if we make it to the playoffs and advance to the second round I'd consider the season a success.

Suarez's acting helps get Rodwell sent off, he trips Jagielka and gets a penalty, and pushes Baines into Distin for his goal; cheating, goofy slimeball.

Not to rehash the incidents too much, but I just watched the replay and the ref (who is 6ft from the incident, looking right at it) pulls his card straight out, no hesitation. It was a clean tackle, though Rodwell did make (slight)contact with Suarez's planted leg and that is probably what made the ref show red. I think the blame rests squarely on the ref for a bad call. Suarez did pull a Busquets there, but I don't think it changed anything.

Both players were going for the ball on the penalty, Suarez was trying to turn with it while Jagielka stuck out a leg briskly and clipped him - I can't see that being anything but a penalty 9 times out of 10. Suarez may have known a challenge was coming but he is playing the ball and Jagielka has to be more precise than that. It's not a stone-cold penalty but not an obvious dive either. ;)

Distin tripped over Baines on the goal, no contact from Suarez. Comedy defending more than anything else.

Drastic changes have occurred, following today's defeat to Birmingham City – Sky Sports News are reporting that McClaren has resigned this evening.

even worse: he is already rumored as coach for the austrian national squad ... at that thought i already have to pray that it doesn't happen

Phew! takao will no doubt be relieved by the news that Marcel Koller has been appointed as Austria's new manager, and not that McClaren fellow.

and i praise the football gods for it... the humiliation of a swiss coach is bad enough ;)

on a more serious note he is actual a very modern coach .. i wonder who has beaten sense into the heads of our FA

Seattle wins it's third straight US Open Cup! First time in forty years that a team has won 3 in a row. The last team to do it was the New York Greek-American '67-'69... :D

Football fans have very short memories.
Found an old podcast last night from the end of July were results weren't going too well for Rangers manager Ally McCoist. Fans were calling for his head, the pundits were saying he's only got a few matches left to prove himself. Fast forward 10 weeks, Rangers are 10 points clear of Celtic (which is insulting to miss 2nd place Motherwell), fans are calling for the head of Neil Lennon, the pundits are saying he's only got a few matches left to prove himself. All very silly. 10 points is only a couple games lost and there are still 3 Old Firm matches to play. Football fans have very short memories.

The main interest this weekend is Liechtenstein v Scotland. We need to absolutely hammer them, not just for the 3 points but also for the lift it will give us going into the last few games. A nearvy 1-0 win won't do it. So we need a proven goalscorer in the team such as my fantasy footballer team member Darren Fletcher. *searches Scotland squad list*. Oh FFS. Craig Mackail-Smith (Brighton and Hove Albion) Really? Really?

Liechtenstein v ScotlandVenue: Rheinpark Stadion, VaduzDate: Saturday 8 OctoberKick-off: 1830 BSTCoverage: Live on BBC 2 Scotland, BBC Radio Scotland 810mw, BBC Sport website (UK users only)

EDIT:
Hahahaha. Rant gone wrong! Fletcher is in the squad but he's listed as a midfielder so I missed him. So with only 3 strikers in the squad and Fletcher as a midfielder it would appear that against Liechtenstein we are going for a defensive 4-5-1 formation.

Suarez looks at Jagielka, sticks his leg out, the ball is moving in the other direction.

Suarez places both hands on Baines' back and shoves him into Distin.

As mentioned, I'm getting ready for the inevitable goals from the flawed* genius.

* hopefully floored.

To combine with Delap's throw-ins?

Not to be a curmudgeon or anything, but Seattle won two of their three Open Cups at home...must be nice to play cup finals in front of 35k of your own fans!!

Why the Open Cup final is not held at a neutral venue (in the MLS era) I'll never understand. I think that is plain stupid. For me, the victory comes with an asterisk - though Seattle should have won the match anyway since the Fire are having a poor season and Seattle are very good.

I suppose I'm still bitter the Crew had to fly accross to the country last season to face our old manager steering Seattle to a cup final win in their own stadium, with the league barely able to contain its bias against us since Seattle is so much more marketable.

Suarez looks at Jagielka, sticks his leg out, the ball is moving in the other direction.

Suarez places both hands on Baines' back and shoves him into Distin.

I think Suarez was well within his rights to stand his ground, and it's Jagielka's responsibility to remain in control of his body, especially in the box. Suarez may have played for the foul, but he did not dive and Jagielka did collide with him. It was not a good tackle.

Baines and Suarez both put their hands on each other at the same time, and Distin falls because he spins around and swipes at the ball in desperation, leaving him off-balance. Also, there is not one peep of a complaint from either defender after they see the goal go in; surely had either felt he'd been fouled we would have seen the usual arms-spead-shout-at-the-ref appeals for a foul that often accompanies a goal.

Suarez likes to go to ground too much for my liking. I'm not going to defend that, but he is an easy target for critics and opposition fans in that regard (and not always fairly), and while he certainly Busquets-ed the Rodwell tackle he was, as far as I can see, innocent in the other two incidents.
