with 2 two important Dortmund players injured within 25 minutes the game was pretty much over (interesting statistic mention on TV: Arsenal starting line up was from 11 different countries while Dortmund had 7 german players)

that said Bayer Leverkusen winning against Chelsea sure was the big surprise ... thanks to the UEFA rules that means they are through no matter the last games

Dreadful call by the ref to give Newcastle a penalty, but Man U had about 20 good chances to win the match and failed to do so. Tim Krul was outstanding, and the last 10 minutes were an epic goal-line stand for Newcastle.

Arsenal looked a bit flat to me overall, though they played very well in stretches. Fulham played decently but seemed limited in the attack and Arsenal were ultimately unlucky not to win.

I'd just come to post this myself. Sad news indeed, and completely out of the blue.

I wasn't aware that he had any health issues?

EDIT: Some media sources are suggesting that it may have been suicide.

Shocking, shocking news, a true tragedy. :( Craig Bellamy pulled out of Liverpool's squad as a result of the news.

An entertaining match between Liverpool and Man City. Liverpool took control of the match towards the end and probably should have scored a winner. The Balotelli sending off hurt City's chances of winning the match, but it hurt Liverpool's as well because City defended better with 10 men.

Four draws in a row at Anfield now. It's still no fortress, but Liverpool looked pretty good today against the title favorites, though they needed a lucky goal to draw. The quality of play was there though, even if we have a way to go yet. Carroll looked dangerous in his short cameo, Hart needed to make a wonderful save to deny him and Suarez at the death.

I didn't know much about Gary Speed so it wouldn't be appropriate for me to comment other than sympathise with his family who will be going through a baffling time. I'll talk about football another day.

wow quite tragic with Gary Speed... just a week ago there a german referee had a suicide attempt ...

I read a few news articles about that. I'm glad it failed, and that he's getting help. It just goes to show that the pressure on players, refs, managers and others is very intense at times an we can't expect everyone to deal with it unaided.

A number of MLS sides have begun to unveil the polyester rags they'll be wearing next season – and the Crew are no exception...

The home kit is OK (not sure about the collar here, I'm picky about collared football shirts), and I hate the away kit. To put it bluntly, what the hell were they thinking? It's a random mess of shapes. Looks like I need to hang on to my 2008 title-winning shirt a few years longer...

After having looked it over again, I feel like they should have continued the fat stripes all the way down the shirt, and gotten rid of the white bit. That would have looked smart, and my credit card would already be out. As it stands, it's like the fabric printer ran out of juice a quarter of the way through the shirt.

The lack of a sponsor will exacerbate the unbalanced nature of the away design.

yellow always is dangerous to make one look like a huge giant walking banana ... just ask Dortmund .. that's why i guess they are offering 1977 and 1949(!) retro styled shirts

The away would look nice if the black and gold continued down, but as it is it just looks like a half finished shirt – like a teaser before they unveil a new sponsor or something.

I don't think the home is a bad effort, but then I'm quite partial to a collared shirt. Primary yellow football shirts always look too yellow to me though, with me being used to amber.

If you page through this very long thread you'll see (besides Brad Friedel with hair!) that most of the Crew's shirts have been ugly, though there are a few interesting exceptions. The all-yellow kit with the rings on the sleeves on the top of the first page is wonderfully retro. I think the 1999 yellow-and-white stripe kit has promise, and a few of our mostly black away kits have been good.

But the Crew were born in the 1990s and the '90s were, in my opinion, a low point for soccer uniforms - baggy, shiny, busy.

To round out the Columbus news for today, MLS has had its Expansion Draft for Montreal and they've raided us for defensive midfielder Josh Gardner, who had a decent season for us in 2011. Not a serious loss, but I would have kept him over a number of other players. I hate the expansion draft.

Finally, a rumor has cropped up that Blackburn is considering swooping in for our energetic but occasionally wayward midfielder Robbie Rogers. He had a wonderful season in 2008, has been in and out of the USA national side at times, and is in my opinion inadequate at the Premier League level. Though, having said that (and with all due respect to Blackburn), that does not mean he would be much worse than many of Blackburn's current squad....I usually support any player's desire to move to Europe, but in this case I hope he stays with us.
