MLS Cup Final: LA Galaxy 1- 0 Houston Dynamo

Galaxy win the final in their own stadium in a game in which they had the upper hand but did not dominate by any means. The solitary goal resulted from a good combination between Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan, finished off with a smart flick by the latter. it was the only highlight-quality move of the match, really. Keane had a goal ruled offside earlier, it was a very close call, and Keane looked like he might have been just even with the last defender.

Beckham's chief contributions were a series of good out-swinging corners that came to nothing and
a blatant rugby tackle on a Houston midfielder that earned him his 11th (I think) yellow card of the season.

The commentary was unfortunately biased, even the respectable Ian Darke got involved in the LA Galaxy love-fest. Houston defended well, occasionally pushed LA back, missed a couple good chances and generally gave a creditable if somewhat limited performance. Ex-Columbus midfielder and bone-fide Scotsman Adam Moffat had a pretty good match and almost scored an equalizer but could not quite put his header on frame. In the end, Galaxy were the best team this season and deserved to win this match and the title.

It wasn't a classic, but Golden Balls and the MLS suits get their fairytale finish to D Becks' MLS contract. Now he can go play for PSG or Blackburn, or play his millionth cap for England or whatever.

Yep, I think we'll see Team Beckham wandering the Champs Elysees next season

And so, another defeat for Chelsea (and a home one at that), putting more pressure on AVB, who believes his job is safe

While I'm sure LB will be somewhat happy, I can't see it being long before Chelsea ans will be wanting AVB's head, if it isn't happening already. They're now 7 points behind United and a staggering 12 points behind City and while they're currently 4th, level on points with Spurs, Spurs have 2 games in hand.

Anyway, in more interesting news, Huddersfield have set a new league record of 43 games unbeaten. Nice to see records being broken, and hopefully they can now break another one where they go on the league's longest loosing streak, and give that second place to us :)

yeah... but u didn't give him credit: becks sent the ball to keane who then passed to donovan who then scored.

i don't have HDtv so it was hard to see the silver ball.. =(

i was for houston. moffat did have a very good game.

glad the galaxy won tho. happy for becks and landon and keane-o.

love to see becks go back and play for PNE! that won't happen tho. :D

Only way that boy's getting another England cap is if Harry Redknapp gets the job after next summer.

In that case the chances are good, as long as "Arry's pump holds out.

At this point I don't care where Beckham goes, he's been an unfaithful mistress to the MLS. It's time for us to part ways. He's also 36. If he takes care of himself he can probably squeeze out another 4 years, especially in a slower league. France or Italy are best for him.

Happy about the Liverpool result. Though, not much goal production from either sides' strikers. Poor Torres...he's just not finding form. I really hope his career is not on a terminally downward trajectory.

AVB is going to be under pressure until results improve, but it would be unrealistic to expect Chelsea to be as good as Man City this season. I think he should keep his job regardless of this season's results, unless Chelsea get relegated through some incredible drop in form.

True. Beckham is still an excellent passer and dead ball deliverer, and that showed last night. He is also terrible at tackling and should have been carded for at least one studs-up challenge, which he got away with somewhat mysteriously.

True, they're not going to be as good as City, but they should at least be close. However, it's not just the top teams they're loosing out to, with draws with Fulham and Stoke, and the loss to QPR. I don't think Abramovich is loading the gun just yet, but he's hardly the most patient of owner...

Nike have unveiled a wardrobe's worth of new kits, and amongst them is the new USA home shirt...

There looks to be a watermarked sash on there, but sorry guys – you're channelling Doncaster Rovers with that shirt.

Abramovich is definitely not patient, but at this point the squad is more in need of change than the manager's position. Abramovich needs to overhaul the squad.

We all knew that City's spending would eventually begin to tell, and now that it has it will be hard for other teams to keep pace.

We'll look like extras in a cheesy pirate film, or a Where's Waldo? lookalike competition. I hate it. The watermarked sash look makes it worse. Damn you, Nike.

Again, you're favouring a shirt featuring red and white, albeit hoops instead of stripes. Fizzy really needs to have a word with you about your colour choices. ;)
Indeed, it's quite worrying! I want you to print this picture and take it with you to bed, so it's the last thing you see before you sleep

Sorry Jaffa :)

Napoli have turned out to be a thorn in City's side.

So much for Mancini's assertions;

-We will go to Bayern and win = Nope
-We are at the same level as Barca and Madrid = Uh...yeaaah...not so much

On another note, would love Cavani to partner RVP. Knows how to play that one.

Utd also seem to just be getting by in recent games. Only 1 real defender in Vidic and then theres that gaping hole in midfield...

Utd were superior in the attack and technical skill and defended well for most of the match. Benfica tried to counter with a very energetic pressing game (and it paid off) though they ran out of gas a little as the game went on. United's midfield is fairly porous at the moment, Benfica ran through them again and again. The commentary was horribly biased in favor of Utd on Fox Soccer Channel. For as much as I hate Gary Neville, I have to say he makes a decent commentator - you just should never have him comment on Utd, it's almost pornographic.

Regardless of how you feel about Utd, you have to give Benfica credit for going to Old Trafford and playing as fearlessly as they did. Had they sat back they would have lost for sure.

City are in a much more difficult group but I think they still have a very good chance of progressing. Napoli is obviously a very difficult place to go and get a result. I wish I could say the same about Anfield these days.

Well, City's fate is completely out of their own hands. If Napoli turn up with a good performance and win in Villarreal, that's it. Allow me a :D

True, and that looks reasonably likely. I forgot that the result they needed was from Villareal. Of course, getting dumped out of the champions league will only focus City's huge squad on the league.

and to top it off City also needs to win against bayern which by all means isn't exactly a walkover either...

for todays games i'm looking forward to Arsenal vs. Dortmund.. for Dortmund there is only theoretical chance but i doubt they will give up

I'm actually more confident that City can beat Bayern, than that Napoli will drop points against Villareal.

Still, having said that, Bayern look like serious contenders (if you ignore the reality that a Spanish team is sure to win the CL again), so I can see them putting City out of their misery as well.

At least City can say they lost in a tough group. But they should have done better.

Arsenal v Dortmund could be a good game. RVP is on fire at the moment.
