Buy Demba Ba :p

Kenny's decision to stick with English talents haven't paid off Carroll, Downing and Adam have turned out to be disappointing for you guys IMHO. Suarez can't do it alone. Maybe now that Gerrard is back...

People said the same about Gyan last season, but then he inexplicably ran off to the Middle East...Ba is probably having a career year.

I think it's too early to say with Carroll, but at the moment he looks one-dimensional. Downing and Adam are not (in my opinion) long-term solutions for a side trying to break into the top four, but they could be good squad players. Our whole squad just looks a little light on depth and talent in key positions.

Overall though, the team has been consistent in terms of results - our defense is pretty good, our attack is weak. This results in a lot of draws or narrow losses.

Back in October, Rangers were 15 points clear of Celtic. Today the gap is 1 point. Wednesday's Ne'erday* game is going to be interesting.

* Traditionally the game is played on New Years Day, the fixture is still referred as such up here.

Looks like Olly is going to get his wish after all...*sigh*

Edit: Rubbish. Couldn't beat a 10 man Wolves team...at home. Embarassment (No offence Olly)

I just have to clutch at straws highlight a bright spot for me by giving a shout out to Clint Dempsey, who is having another great season at Fulham and laying a claim to rival Donovan as the best USA outfield player. The one thing that really sets him apart in the USA squad is that he has the confidence to try technical moves most Americans just can't produce, and he has enough skill to make it work. Go Clint!

An honorable mention has to go to Brad Friedel, who looks formidable between the sticks this season. Most Columbus Crew fans are hoping he comes back to Columbus (where he is a legend) before retiring.

That was the first time in 27 years that we've scored at Arsenal so when you went 1-0 up I thought it was all over.

It's gotta feel good to be a Wolves fan after that result. :) Bummer for the Arsenal fans though. As woith last season, the teams near the top are dropping points to teams near the bottom more often than usual.

Now if only Spurs drew or better yet lost...

EDIT: Guess not. Can't complain tho...Spurs are currently a stronger side and have depth. Harsh truth.

Suarez needs someone to show him how to pass when in the box - infuriating yesterday

Be interesting to see what happens if Gerrard manages to stay fit for longer than a week and gets a run in the team; hopefully we won't revert back to type of the last few years and become reliant on him (pretty sure last season under Dalglish we got more points from games he didn't play in than did).

We've been playing quite well as team - unto the point of actually sticking the ball in the net, which is kind of fundamental really...

I want to run something past the UK-based posters (and I sincerely apologize for harping on the issue ):

Suarez has endured a pretty hearty roasting in the press over the racism case. This is totally predictable, and if he's guilty, he's guilty. I, again, will not defend this behavior in the slightest.

And yet, in those very same rags - even liberal ones like the Guardian, I see headlines about how John Terry is praised for his "strength of character" or his "never-say-die" attitude.

Now, I'll admit that some of those compliments turn out to be a little back-handed, but is there something more insidious going on here? Johnny Foreigner Suarez is handed a big punishment from the FA for racist remarks, and any (admittedly clumsy) support he recieves from his own teammates and manager is deemed unseemly and counterproductive in fighting racism. And yet, at the same time, <deep voice> Brave John Terry </deep voice> soldiers on in the face of (likely) both criminal and sporting charges of misconduct relating to an (alleged) racist insult, and his attitude (and the support he gets from his teammates) is somehow laudable or at least impressive?

I'm not necessarily making accusations of xenaphobia, but it certainly looks like an obvious double standard on the part of the media from where I'm standing. What do you gents think?

Welcome to the fickle British Press. It does seem that way doesn't it. I think its how both players responded on the field. Terry makes a (lets face it) brilliant save to deny Spurs at the death of their derby match and Suarez in comparison played well but nothing else which isn't as exciting to print. (The cliche response displayed by Liverpool didn't help either)

I also think it's a case of a lot of people (the media certainly) not being fans of Suarez in general ever since the World Cup incident it seems.

Finally, we still don't know yet if the book will indeed be thrown at Terry which is likely.

The fact that Terry (unlike Suarez) is facing a criminal charge could also be a factor in the press going easy on him — for now at least. If they stick the boot in now and embark on a spot of character assassination there could be the accusation that what they print could influence opinion of Terry and therefore potentially affect the outcome when he appears in court. This would then mean in turn that legal action could be taken against the papers responsible.

Certainly, the British press has been under a lot of scrutiny recently, so might be trying to keep its collective nose clean. If he is found guilty though the knives may well come out — I certainly expect they have a fair bit on him.

Good points. The criminal charge certainly adds a new element to the situation. Suarez is of course a safer target because he's been found guilty. But if Terry loses his criminal case one would have to think the "Brave John Terry" references will become much more scarce...

I agree with you daneoni that Suarez is not the most likeable guy, but we are comparing him with Terry here! ;)

lol...good point. I think Jaffa may have it read on this one. The press are probably just treading carefully and biding their time.

Well, we finally know how many games Suarez will miss in total, and the number is nine. So far, anyway. One match for giving Fulham fans the finger, and eight matches for describing Evra's ancestry to him in insulting terms. On top of that, he has undoubtedly earned the lasting enmity of every opposition fan in England, and the press will henceforth always append his list of punishments to every article of which he is the topic. Whew.

Future Big Paper Article said:
Liverpool's Luis Suarez, who while an Ajax player was once banned for seven matches for biting an opponent, and while playing for Uruguay punched a goalbound shot out with his hand, and while a Liverpool players was banned for one match for making rude gestures at Fulham fans, and was finally banned for eight matches for racist comments to Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, will be unavailable for Saturday's match due to a hamstring strain.

Suarez is too passionate and emotional in his game - or, rather, he fails to channel those emotions to constructive ends. He needs to grow up, be more circumspect, and convert more of that passion into focus. Just as with Wayne Rooney, passion and emotions are no excuse for bad behavior. I just want him to shut up and go score goals....whenever he actually makes it to the pitch.

Eventually they will get bored...unless Suarez keeps entertaining like Balotelli of course.

On another note. Monsieur Wenger has offered Henry a 2 month loan deal which is better than nothing and more importantly better than Chamakh or Arshavin (Henry can also play left wing)...if true and if he accepts anyway

Apparently Mertesacker is also urging Podolski to join us as a long term solution...can't say i object to that.

I was just poking fun at an Arsenal-supporting friend over Henry. :D

I've seen him in MLS now, and while his sublime touch and vision are still there, his pace has dropped off. He is still useful at the Premier League level (espeically in a deeper position, perhaps playing behind RVP) but he is not the Henry of old.

Still, even the geriatric version of Henry knows how to strike a ball...

Don't think the Irish would agree ;)

It appears our favorite russian billionaire has met Coyle's asking price for Cahill. Chelsea have probably overpaid for another player me guesses.

I still somewhat wish we'd gotten him. Alongside Vermaelen, it would have been an interesting pairing. Oh well..
