As a Cleveland fan, I have to say you started out very badly by being from Baltimore, but your hatred for Manchester United mitigates that somewhat...I guess we'll call it a wash. ;)

We can both hate Shittsburgh.

At least we left you guys the Browns name and records and such. Not like the Indianapolis Irsays.

I prefer my footballs to be round these days anyway, though I ended up supporting an overdog club in the UK - but, once the choice is made you can't really go back. To be fair, Liverpool has not won a single trophy since I began supporting them, though that is surely just a coincidence. I remain a neutral in the rest of the world, apart from MLS of course (Columbus till I die etc etc).

If I had to pick one of the big clubs the Reds would be the one. Gerrard is a pleasure to watch. I also like their history.

I'll take Arsenal over Chelsea too.

Just watching the 1970 FA Cup Final between Chelsea and Leeds. My, how the game has changed since then! The two big differences are:

  1. Players didn't fall down after contact.
  2. The ball was DEAD compared the to models used in "modern" football that fly a mile and whiffle around in the air.

I need to watch more old football matches.

Is it me or does Henderson not know how to play football. If i were Kenny i'd bring on Gerrard and Bellamy NOW.

Henderson has been a bit flat lately. I'm not sure he is going to pan out, but it's too early to judge, as it is with Carroll.

In the end, this game isn't really that important. City have a huge, massively talented squad and have spent a lot more money than us. I fully expected them to win. I was hoping that we'd keep them down to just 1-2 goals, but given where we are right now this result is neither surprising nor that important. The Blackburn result was far more upsetting.

We need to beat the teams below us, and beat Arsenal, Chelsea or Spurs to 4th place. The Manchester clubs are not our target this season.

In the current circumstances, Carroll as a lone striker was only ever going to end with a clean sheet for City anyway.

Was it the first match at Wembley or the replay at Old Trafford?

That's the first cup final I can remember watching.

The replay was one of the roughest games I can remember seeing. Most of today's players would have ended up in intensive care but they were a tougher breed back then. :D

The replay at Old Trafford. A very rough match, but actually there weren't really any leg-breaking type tackles - it was more shoulder-barges and elbows.

Come to think of it, maybe the fact that you can't so much as touch a player with your arms any more has something to do with the fact that players are more likely to try a slide tackle nowadays.

I was also impressed at the dribbling skills on show. England may have a reputation as long-ball merchants, but the best teams in 1970 had a fair bit of skill playing the ball on the ground too, especially 1v1.

It's the Daily Fail...so I take it with a grain of salt. A very interesting concept though. It would be nice to be able to get a subscription to EPL matches in HD from iTunes. Won't happen in the US for a long time though.

Also the MacRumors article states they are bidding for streaming rights while the Mail (spit) says it's for the TV rights.

It's going to cost them billions to beat Sky and then there's the matter of production. Apple is a content distributor, not content producer.

I'm not convinced.

just took a peek at the FSC FA cup schedule for Sunday... was really hoping The Wednesday would be on the telly here again... =(

Apparently, there's a big running, throwing and jumping event going on in London this summer – and they're playing some football as part of it.

I mention this because the Royal Mint are releasing a series of commemorative 50 Pence pieces, each showing a different Olympic sport – and football is included. Pleasingly, it looks like the Mint has a bit of a sense of humour...

Heh. It amused me, in any case. :p

Do you think Mannone will slot into the starting position?
I would think so. Basso has a knee problem which needs rest, he looked like his leg was going to fall off whenever he took a goal kick on Saturday. Gulácsi meanwhile – on loan from Liverpool of course – has looked totally unconfident during his time with us, while the two other keepers on our books are an injured reserve player and a foetus.

Given all that I can't see Mannone not starting on Saturday against Ipswich – as a plus it's an FA Cup match so it'll give the Italian a chance to reacquaint himself with our defence.

...and Demba Ba continues to be a revelation. Feed the sheep and Ba will score. :p

Cracking goal.

United's midfield humbled (again) by Tiote/Cabaye, and Krull/Ameobi/Ba makes quick work of their defense.

I know you like to be kept abreast of American players doing well overseas your Lordship, so you might be pleased to hear that one of your countrymen has scored for his team tonight. The player in question is Tim Howard.

Yes, that's right. Tim Howard.

I'm particularly pleased about this because I decided to transfer him into my fantasy football team this week. Heh. :)

if only he had won and scored...

So apparently Steve Kean has phoned up Alex Ferguson to offer his support and give him some advice..

Too bad Howard's goal came in a loss against hopless Bolton...Donovan started but it wasn't enough. It's great to see Timmy get a goal though. I always have him between the sticks on my fantasy team, though Wayne Hennessey has 103 saves to Howard's 35 this season....

'Keeper Will Hesmer's goal for Columbus during the 2010 season was even more epic though - he calmly takes two touches and lashes the ball home to salvage a draw at the death. Granted, he had an hour on the ball to do it, but they all count! :D

Given the thinness of United's squad, it was only a matter of time before we started seeing stuff like this. United's defense is very vulnerable at the moment to any team with a reasonably strong attack. What's more surprising to me is that Newcastle's makeshift defense kept a clean sheet.

Demba Ba is having a great season for Newcastle.

Hello and Happy New Year,

Hope all of you are well - sorry, haven't caught up with months of posts. Took a breather because I was getting too angry, tonight has changed that.:D Can only laugh; those substitutions - it's the midfield and he takes Berbatov off. He's gone mad.

Off to find the Wildcard.

Cheers,
OW

Hope the holidays went well. I get a little hot under the collar myself when it comes to spectating - sometimes I simply need to walk away. I envy the fans that never get really upset.

As for United, I do find Fergie's lack of confidence in Berbatov continually perplexing. Why doesn't he like him?

It's results like that which encourage the 'lower' teams to no longer be afraid of the to Top 4...or 6 as it were, and to have a go. That and the top 4 clubs, in recent seasons, have been a shadow of their former selves...even at full strength.

It's good for the EPL though.
