Cahill's a good player, though I'm not sure he's 'top four' quality. One also wonders how Bolton can afford to lose him.

Let's see how many times Liverpool can hit the woodwork today. It would be too much to expect them to actually put the ball in the back of the net.

They probably see it as lose 1 player and gain 2 or 3 others with the same amount of money.

Bellamy is currently one your most effective player. Ditto for Gerrard who still knows how to pull strings and more importantly, score.

In other news that may please Olly, Frimpong is set to join Wolves on loan for the rest of the season. Take care of him will you.

Bellamy did a job today. Without him I'm not at all sure where we'd be getting goals from right now. Gerrard was a revelation when he came on - this is both good and bad. It's good that he's back, and it's bad that we depend on his quality as much as we do. It's a big boost to have him back.

Carroll had another up and down match that ended on a low since he failed to find the net yet again. Still very much a work in progress.

Well done Rovers! Great match! I just added Yakubu to my fantasy team Thursady! =)

Phew. Chelsea and Utd lose, Spurs draw, and i couldn't really have asked for more. Shame RVP didn't equal/beat Shearer's record but 35 goals in a year is remarkable nonetheless. Please please please don't get injured. Speaking of injuries, i hope Vermaelen's isn't serious.

Our two wingers today showed how much we need Henry (and Podolski) to support RVP. I shudder when i think about where we would be now if he wasn't playing. Wenger must do everything he can to keep him...and more.

RVP=MVP

Blackburn win at Old Trafford. <savors that momentarily>. On paper it's not as shocking as it seems, United have a lot of injuries and Blackburn have strung a couple results together as of late. But it's still a surprise!

I'm watching the rebroadcast of the Spurs-Swansea match and Swansea look worth their point, they built attacks up patiently and played the ball on the ground.

A bad day for the top of the table all round except for the Arse.

And Man City lose at Sunderland. A truly remarkable game, worth finding some highlights for... Sunderland soaked up pressure for most of the game, but created arguably the biggest openings of the game. Then as they are clinging on for a point, Ji gets played through (offside), rounds the keeper and snatches the win.. with less than 10 seconds left to play! Unbelievable. Nice weekend for the Arsenal  let's keep it up at Craven Cottage tomorrow.

Happy New Year MR football followers.

Are City starting to pull a Chelsea of last season? Blistering start but stumbled as time went on. City haven't won away in the last 3/4 matches

Manchester looked like they were going to run away with it. Yet both teams are still there for the taking.

This is why the EPL is better than la liga. Nothing is completely predictable.

Some sad news this morning – Gary Ablett has died at the age of 46 from non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Ablett is in the history books as the only player to win the FA Cup with both Liverpool and Everton – making over 100 appearances for each club along the way. He also had a brief loan spell with Hull City in the mid-1980s, which he would no doubt have considered to be the peak of his illustrious career.

RIP

Fulham deserve it. Dunno how we thought we could park the bus and stop playing. Congrats to Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham.

Also will someone please give Walcott and Gervinho remedial classes on how to play football...kthxbai.

RIP Gary. An interesting career, and the FA cup Everton/Liverpool double is unlikely to be repeated in the foreseeable future. It's also interesting to see that he briefly suited up for the American 4th tier club Long Island Rough Riders at one point. 46 is far, far too young.

Fulham have had a strange season, very inconsistent though they remain pretty decent at home. Arsenal are also inconsistent, and their recent run of good form is threatening to unravel a bit.

Don't congratulate Liverpool just yet, we have to play Man City tomorrow, and they are desperate to put that recent loss behind them. We'll be hard pressed to get a result this time.

I don't think Denver has a team – only 800-or-so folk live there – but I suppose Norwich City is their local league side.

'Squeelers' probably refers to QPR, who lost against Norwich today. It's not a nickname I've heard applied to them before, but then again I usually just refer to QPR as dirty, time-wasting, match spoiling, injury feigning, new right-back injuring, mascot plagiarising, glove wearing cheats anyway.

That Joey Barton sending off seemed a little harsh, some play acting from the Norwich player (unless the charges of spitting were true). But it was very rich for Colin W to suggest that Barton would not have dived if the situation were reversed, since the situation was reversed earlier in the season and Barton theatrically flung himself to the grass after a little tap from Gervinho. What a punk.

You should add 'Neil Warnock-employing' to that list :D

My Sky went down at half time so as far as I'm concerned the Old Firm ended 0-0 and we're still 1 point clear.

Celtic are looking pretty good these days, no idea how Neil Lennon has turned around that team since October. Twitter is usually a breeding ground for sectarian idiots so I'm pleased to see that most real football fans of all sides have been posting messages about the 66 who didn't make it home 41 years ago today.

Oops. You guys are talking about REAL football!!!

Go Pompey then.

Probably the best come back we've ever seen from a hand-egg chaser! Shame you are a Portsmouth fan...

No allegience really. I've always followed the EPL up until this season. I'm from Baltimore so I'm used to being an underdog in sports fandom so I won't pick any of the big clubs to root for. Portsmouth seemed as good as any.

Only team I hate is Man U.

As a Cleveland fan, I have to say you started out very badly by being from Baltimore, but your hatred for Manchester United mitigates that somewhat...I guess we'll call it a wash. ;)
