That's terrible news, Windass is a great personality and the opposite of the prima donna stereotype that is the bane of modern football. Let's hope he gets the help he needs.

The problem is, you just don't see him as the type who could have a long and successful career in the media or management. He's done a bit of telly work for Sky, but was cast in the role of lovable buffoon, fluffing his live links from the ground. I don't know if he could take on some kind of ambassadorial role or something at the club going forward, at least that would give him some direction and break the destructive routine that he's sunk into... but in the short term the positive thing is that he accepts he has a problem and is taking steps to try and deal with things, including getting professional help from the highly respected Sporting Chance clinic.

From past interviews you get the impression that it was his wife who was a major part in keeping him on the straight and narrow, and with them separated he's lost that support and influence and he's gone to pieces.

i've seen his telly work. i meant on the bench. surely he could coach someone at some level.

Another away defeat after being ahead early on. Brilliant. Europa league here we come and RVP to bail in the summer.

Isn't it a little early to get down, there's still 15 minutes left to play.

Not anymore. Besides i've been there before many times as an Arsenal fan, hence my declaration. 1-0 ahead but team comes back to beat us or draw. It's Classic Contemporary Arsenal :p...and one of the major reasons we've been trophy-less for 6/7 years

You big team supporters are spoilt. At least you've won the League (and FA Cup) a good number of times in your lifetime. :p

I almost got to see Wolves in the FA Cup final 14 years ago but we lost in the semi-final to bloody Arsenal. :D

Oops. If its any better Wolves have dented our CL spot hopes already this season by taking 2pts from us. I believe we were also 1-0 ahead in that game...

I read somewhere in the papers that a Darlington supporters' group has attracted a last-minute ownership bid from some third party, and that the administrator has set a deadline of Tuesday for any miracle bids, after which the club must be wound up due to a total exhaustion of funds.

It's a terrible story. At this point (barring a miracle), I guess the best we can hope for is that a new club is subsequently formed and gets back to the business of playing football. The thought of losing one's club to financial woes is a terrible one for any fan to imagine.

Big clubs like Liverpool can always attract a buyer, but not so the smaller clubs - nothing demonstrates the huge disparity in wealth better than stories like this one.

It remains to be seen if Saturday's match against Fleetwood will go ahead – if it does, Darlo's team will more than likely be made up of youth team players and possibly a couple of seniors who will play for a one off match fee.

A rather ignoble end to 128 years of football in the town.

greed and hubris killed football there.

i'll play for free!

Darlington's former chairman George Houghton has made noises about a possible takeover bid. Is there still time for an 11th hour rescue? Houghton seems to have been around during a previous slip into administration; would his ownership just prolong the agnony a few years?

The long term problem the club would face is that they're just going to continue haemorrhaging money due to the stadium. It's a hell of a millstone around their necks and is completely unsustainable for a club and town of that size.

Darlo have a stay of execution, for their next three fixtures at least. Word is that the administrators had agreed to close the club and had started notifying players and staff when the offer came in.

However, make no mistake – they're not saved. Effectively this is just a two week reprieve and a new owner will need to be found before the end of the month. Today's deal has basically just bought them some more time...

True, though it does illustrate that, when it all comes down to it, football exists because of supporters. When the failed owners have fled, when the big money players have moved on, when the creditors move in, a club's only remaining ally (and the only one that can't be taken away or leave!) is the supporters.

The situation really hasen't improved much, but perhaps this act of charity on the part of supporters will inspire some wealthy individual (or group of individuals) to step in and save the club.

EDIT: after scratching its head for a bit, the UK has decided to give Robbie Rogers a work permit, making his transfer to Dirty Leeds official.

Columbus has brought in 8 new players this year, and of those probably half will be potential starters. The general mood over the transfers is one of optimism, with a marquee Designated Player signing promised.

With basic colours, stars and people pointing at things, I couldn't help but draw comparisons between Columbus's poster and Stalinesque properganda posters! Do you think this was deliberate?
