With basic colours, stars and people pointing at things, I couldn't help but draw comparisons between Columbus's poster and Stalinesque properganda posters! Do you think this was deliberate?

Oh, very much so. :D

I love vintage propaganda posters. Good ones are so incredibly efficient.

The density of clubs in England (and Europe as a whole?) is mind-boggling. There are so many small clubs I'm actually surprised this doesn't happen more often. It is, nevertheless, a massive shame that so many clubs go under due to reckless business practices on the part of the ownership and (business) management.

Yo seen this jaffa? click the pic...
Curious – we didn't wear shirts like that in the 1960s! :D

We did wear plain amber a couple of times – but these featured either solid amber collar and cuffs, or amber with two thin black lines. Also, we didn't wear a crest through the 1960s, the Tiger head shown on that shirt was last used on a shirt worn during the late 1950s (in fact, it's the shirt my Jaffatar™ normally sports) which was plain with black trim, but had a prominent v-neck.

In other news, Colin reckons people have been poisoning his reputation. I'm saying nowt. :p

Speaking of which... Heart of Midlothian (Hearts) failed to pay their players on time for the 4th consecutive month. Remember this is meant to be Scotland's 3rd biggest team*.

The Lithuanian owner claims although they weren't on time they were paid early according to when he said he might pay them, so that's ok then. And he also blames the bank for not transferring the money on time. Oh by the way, he owns the bank.

Remember this is the guy who tried to buy Liverpool but Hicks got there instead.

*Dundee Utd, Hibs and Aberdeen don't agree

That article actually made me feel a little sorry for him. He may be a crusty jerk, but compared to people like Tony Fernandes, Kia Joorabchian and Joey Barton he comes accross as the Nicest Man in Britain (apologies to Michael Palin).

I'd like to say we dodged a bullet there, but given what Statler and Waldorf did to Liverpool I can't say for sure. :(

Yep, I had a look around the site. I'm not sure how accurate the Wednesday shirts are, but with the City one it seems that they're going for a generic 1960s look rather than reproducing a specific shirt.

The Rangers one is pretty bad... it's the wrong shade of blue... the roundel has never been used on the shirt only the overlapping RFC letters, the definitive article ("the") has never been used in the club title, however in fairness the collar is correct (although I don't ever remember white trim but I could be wrong on that).

And in comedy name news, Rangers have just completed the transfer of Celik. Apparently he will have his forename (Mervan) on the back of the shirt.

Lots of goals today in the Barclays Premier League, including a hattrick from that boy Clint Dempsey.

Currently Bolton is beating Liverpool 3-1 and Liverpool really look rubbish.

Liverpool continue to struggle and are even starting to fade. Really missing Suarez or rather someone who knows to score in general.

A huge day for Clint Dempsey. This has been a great season for him, he's scoring goals and looking good doing it. He's been up and down for the national team at times but, crucially, he has improved steadily over the last several years both in club and international play. Well done Clint! :D

As for Liverpool, the scoreline against Bolton suggests defensive frailties but I think that is not the case. I'm not sure Dalglish got the tactics wrong, but they were hardly a success. Lately nothing has worked. This match provides even more evidence, if any was needed, that opposing teams have all found a simple recipe for beating Liverpool - just press high and ignore Liverpool's useless "offense". Gerrard played very deep and had no impact in the offensive third. We play too many longballs and hopeful crosses and do nothing with them.

For me a feeling of helplessness and resignation is setting in. Suarez is still suspended, Carroll is becoming an expensive flop, Dalglish is tinkering but not finding any magic, every player's shoulders are sagging, and there is no prospect of anything changing. For a club with big resources it's embarrassing. My only consolation is that there are no classic big four teams in the Premier League this year, pretty much everyone stinks or is under-performing. But it's small consolation in the end.

Well the three goals were do to some poor defending. They were really devoid of any ideas going forward. I think the early goals really helped Bolton. and gave them confidence that they still belong in the Premier League.

The Fulham v Newcastle Utd game was strange. Fulham couldn't get out of there own end in the first half and were deservedly behind at HT. Jol changed the tactics at HT and played 442, and they scored 5 goals, and Newcastle hardly touched the ball.

I think the defensive mistakes were the result of sustained pressure. Put any defense, no matter how good, under relentless pressure and they will break down. The defense wasn't flawless (particularly on the first goal) but they were not the source of our biggest problems. Liverpool's midfield was poor today, neither protecting the defense nor providing consistent service to our lone 'striker'.

I also don't like the way Kenny uses Dirk Kuyt.

I wish I had seen this match rather than the Liverpool match. The final score once again highlights the damage injuries have done to Newcastle's defense.

So glad we cashed in on Nasri, has tanked this season. Clichy also remains a liability wherever he plays.

EDIT: lol...of course he goes and scores once I say that. Poor Spurs though, almost feel sorry for them, but they can't blame anyone but themselves in the end.

EDIT2: *sigh*...i'm going to take a nap. Boringly predictable.

When will Wenger learn that he can't keep relying on players that have proven unreliable time and time again! I mean bringing off someone who assisted your team's goal and was one of the best players on pitch, for someone who has been consistent in being useless for 6months?! Mind boggling!

Astonishing really, how one can be so obstinate to reality.

I really feel for RVP (also why i don't blame Fabregas for escaping). All of his (RVP) hardwork earlier in the season is slowly but surely being undone and we're fading. Confidence also starting to plummet.

Wenger and the board need to get their heads out their Arses. The game has changed and they need to adapt...or leave.

USA 1-0 Venezuela.

I won't waste time trying to paint this match as exciting, because it wasn't - both teams brought B squads. The sole points of interest were that Klinsmann gave four players their first caps and Jermaine Jones, currently suspended in the Bundesliga for eight matches for stamping on someone's hand (you hear, Pepe?) was made captain.

Our next match is in Panama, and will be considerably tougher.

Looks like Kenny is setting up for a clear out - could be a good way of disguising the fact that some of his signings just aren't good enough.

I'm not sure Kenny is being that devious - I think he said those things simply because he's angry we played like garbage. And we did.

A title challenge might be out of the question but a top four finish is still very possible.

Meanwhile, 'Arry Redknapp's court case begins today.

I think 'Arry is a crook, to be honest. His wheeler-dealing has gone too far. I also think that the court case could affect Spurs' form. Which is a shame, because for a moment there they were putting pressure on the top two.

A bank account in his dog's name. :D

I seriously wonder how he'll wriggle out of this one. There is a certain justice in him being proven, in court, to be a wheeler-dealer.

EDIT: After having watched the Balotelli - Parker incident (and I know I may be pilloried for this), I have to say I don't think Balotelli meant to step on Parker's head. I think he lost his cool when Parker came in, and as he fell he purposely flailed his limbs to get a piece of Parker in the heat of the moment - but it wasn't a calculated, targeted stamp like Pepe's assualt on Messi on the recent Clasico.

It's a very small distinction, but could be the difference between deeming Ballotelli's actions "reckless" versus "violent". With that being said, Balotelli's reputation will (rightly) count against him in the minds of the FA and they sure to ban him for four matches.

His penalty was wonderful though. He may be a man-child/idiot, but Balotelli is the most entertaining player in the Premier League by a mile. He's also one of the most talented.

He'll have a job. My live-in tax lady reckons that HMRC must be very confident they can pin things on him to take him to court.

I suspect the Redknapp family pet's banking habits are just the tip of the iceberg...
