We have a pretty good record in penalty shoot outs recently. However, there's a reason Gervinho was so far down the pecking order.. that penalty went exactly where you'd imagine it to go. Will do his confidence a world of good no doubt...

I like him a lot, think he adds a lot to us but... for a footballer, he's not very good at the actual kicking the ball part.

I didn't mean penalties in particular (granted i could've phrased better) but rather the inability to put the ball in the net when badly needed in general...even from close range.

Hah, yes, true. Although Drogba bottled it more than anyone, in my opinion. Big chance to win it in normal time, terrible penalty.

Thank goodness for the African Cup of Nations, it pulled me out of my sulk. Zambia, what a great story!

Unfortunately for Ivory Coast, they are in danger of being labeled chokers now, they've been favorites at a few of these tournaments but haven't been able to finish it off.

Was Mick a bad manager, did they need funds, was it the players...or all of the above?

I wonder who will be next; Kean, Martinez or AVB.

Martinez looks safe, being owed one.

AVB - it takes about 5 years to build a team, but does Roman understand? Ranieri did a lot of the transition work before Mourinho.

Dalglish - what really went on there? Do the owners care, or were they forced?

McLeish - never mind the Birmingham City connection, the football is terrible.

Kean - can Yakubu score more than the opposition?

Coyle - ? Just when you think they have turned the corner...

Cost of sacking and hiring, is the expected bounce enough, cost of relegation or failure to qualify for some competition...

Cheers,
OW

Not much of a surprise. It's our third year in the top flight and we're still in exactly the same position as the 2 previous seasons. Losing 5-1 to them was the the final nail in the coffin.

And if we appoint Colin as Mick's replacement I'm going to disown the club. :(
Think you might be switching to blue and white stripes then ;)

No, I'm still doing my shopping at Morrisons...

Rangers, not unexpectedly, have announced that they will go into administration next week by submitting papers to the court. No doubt they've guessed the outcome of a £49m tax case so they are deciding to screw the taxpayer out of money. The currently owner will have prefered status and be able to buy them back for £1 and. Administration seems to be a legitimate business plan these days.

Of course the -10 points being docked virtually guarantees the title to Celtic this year.

What a glorious weekend that was! :D

I do think Redknapp will see out the season at Spurs at the very least, and if he does go, Mourinho would make an interesting replacement :)

I doubt he would do it, but I would love for that to happen. The worst part of Redknapp leaving is that Spurs are unlikely to find a manager who will do as well.

I don't know about anyone else but I kind of forget about our chances of winning tournaments as soon as the qualification groups are drawn. :D

So it's when England are actually scheduled to play games that the pessimism sets in? :p

If Rangers go into administration and still finish second, that's not going to be a great advert for the SPL...the clubs immediately below them must be furious at thta thought. As is, I'm sure, USA captain Carlo Bocanegra, who is probably wondering if his next paycheck will arrive. ;)

This is one instance that I can say, without a whiff of bias, that Man Utd. fans have ben unbelievably spoiled. Ferguson is reasons 1 through 10 that United are winning titles, making money and generally staying out of trouble. Once he goes, it will be a leap into the unknown. Enjoy it while it lasts! ;)

So few managers actually have a meaningfully long tenure at a club anymore. Those clubs, like United, Everton and Arsenal, that do have some real stability in their managerial position are very lucky indeed.

Whelan has basically said that Martinez has the job for as long as he wants it, no matter what so he isn't getting fired.

All the others with the exception of Dalglish could be next for the axe, although I could see a situation where Dalglish decides to walk away having had enough of the who Suarez media fiasco.

He's the Mr. Burns of football, though Dario Gradi is still in the background.

There will be a few twists and turns before all the truth comes out about this tax case. This has always been part of the plan of Whyte's takeover, I just don't like the brinksmanship.

Interestingly, the tax case is to do with benefits paid in kind into offshore bank accounts (not belonging to Harry's dog) for European matches... every team did it (I believe Celtic and Arsenal maybe susceptible) so this could be the tip of the iceberg.

As it stands:
1 Celtic 65 points
2 Rangers 61 points
3 Motherwell 42 points
4 Hearts 36 points

So a 10 point deduction would relegate 2nd place Rangers... into 2nd place.
