It's a trite expression, but it seems apt here: De Gea is an a great shot stopper, but his command of the box seems lacking. This could be because he works behind a constantly rotating defense, some of whom are inexperienced. Maybe if he played behind the same back four more often he would make less mistakes and be more commanding of his space.

He's still awfully young, still needs to master English, and definitely needs to play behind a settled back for (who in turn needs to play behind a settled midfield for a change). DeGea has all the attributes to be a top, top keeper for many years. There will be bumps in the road, for sure, though.

He definitely shows the potential. Liverpool will face a similar problem when Reina retires. Replacing a top keeper is very difficult, and it can completely change the chemistry of a team.

By the way, h00ligan, most live matches are on for me between 3:30am and 7am.

I'm sure sure one of the young german GKs will spark some interest of top level clubs sooner or later. Like Ter Stegen or Leno. Reina can easily play for at least another 6-8 years .

I don't think we'll have to worry about Reina for quote a while, barring any major injuries. But goalkeepers of his stature are precious commodities, not easily replaced.

Looks like he could do with a good meal inside him too! :)

Managerial rich list. Unsurprisingly, the two la liga coaches take the top two spot with The Special One taking pole position.

Cha-ching!

However, there are some surprisingly high entries from the Premier League, with Mark Hughes, manager of relegation candidates QPR, earning a salary of £3m which makes him the 13th highest paid manager in the global game.

In fact, Hughes is paid more than World Cup winning coach Vicente del Bosque (£1.8m), Germany's Joachim Loew (£2m) and coach of German champions Borussia Dortmund, Juergen Klopp (£1.8m).

Probably the best evidence I've seen of just how much the Premier League overrates itself. 1 league win, 2 draws, 4 losses, 3 million a year...that's a LOL.

Its mind boggling how grossly overpaid these people are...especially when very few of them actually earn their money by performing.

Yah. I TiVo them and I have the online sub. However espn likes to run matches only live online. Which is annoying.

I was able to watch the match (shhh). Ugh

I wish lindegard was in. Overall the defense looked bad and I'm probably alone but I really don't like jones.

Meanwhile, we face Ipswich Town this afternoon – and I'd like to quash reports that I've signed for the East Anglians ahead of the fixture...

One player who will be conspicuous by his absence this afternoon is loveable cock-er-ny scamp Jimmy Bullard. See, the foppish wastrel is currently serving a club suspension after going out drinking in Newcastle and tipping up late for training the following morning.

To recap, that's the second club to have suspended this rather toxic individual since last summer. All he wants to do is play football, you know.

Liverpool suffer another defeat and O'Neil is now just two points behind them. The battle for 4th may end up being decided when Arsenal play Chelsea at the Emirates. QPR, Wolves and Wigan are goners in my book. Also think Utd will win the title.

Was at the Leicester game today, 3-1 and our 8 game winning streak continues...

Looking forward to Donny on Tuesday and then Barnsley on Saturday. If things go our way we should be 2nd this time next week.

Perhaps the theory is to entice them to your club with large wages in order to prevent your rivals snapping him up just in case they are any good?

We're battling for 3rd, not 4th ;)

Hahaha...fair point. Didn't expect Spurs to lose but you're right. Its game on now.

EDIT: Not liking this news at all if true. RVP has apparently agreed terms to join City in the summer on a £210k salary. Meanwhile Wenger plans to launch a £25m bid for Götze...which seems a fair bit lower than the £40m of the rumoured previous bid. Hmm...

i doubt a big for Götze to be succesfull at this moment .. he still has plenty of contract left, the euro championship is right ahead (where Götze could be able to score best younger player of the tournament), Dortmund is on the way to win the Bundesliga

UP THE OWLS!

Great to see Paul Pogba get 17 minutes with the first team today. So he hasn't put pen to paper for Juventus after all. Hope there's still a good chance of him staying - he's got all the tools to be a fantastic player.

I don't think Götze is going anywhere after this season, he has everything he needs at Dortmund and Dortmund just signed Reus, so they're gonna make a new attempt to do better in the Champions League. Why didn't ManU keep Ron-Robert Zieler? He does pretty good now at Hannover and is most likely the third goalie for the German roster in the Euro Championship.....
