^^^The way that the NHL arranged it makes more sense. *shrug*

Well, some answers. The part about the playoffs wasn't written very well, but I get the gist of what will happen.

The first two rounds will be within each conference. The winners of each conference will then be reseeded so it'll be 1 vs 4, and 2 vs 3. The winners of those two series will play for the Cup.

What are they going to do when Phoenix moves east?

I say: bring back the Norris!:p

I watched the Leafs @ Rangers game tonight.....thanks Google:D. Leafs won 4-2. Why couldn't we play like that against Boston...it was like watching a different team.

If you look at it, they appear to have broken things up by time zones, mainly for the western conference.

I hope Phoenix stays puts. Great excuse for me to go visit friends. Plus where are they going to go? Atlanta?

Looks like 16. 4 from each conference. That's the only way that the first two rounds can be within each conference, right?

so lets use your leafs as an example

Theoretically, your first round opponent could be Ottawa. Then you could play Montreal. then Pittsburgh in the final

Likewise
Sharks could have to go through Anahiem, LA, Vancouver, and then Detroit to get to the finals?

Seems like putting TB and FLA in the Atlantic conference and moving a couple other teams (PHI, NJ, NYR/I?) to the Northeast conference would make more sense. I at least hope they don't plan on calling it the Northeast conference.

Quebec City is a possibility, and there is even talk of putting a second team in Toronto.

Phoenix is in big trouble. the NHL is still footing the bill for that team and they can't find anyone that wants to buy it.

I think so. Except they would only play two teams from their own conference in the playoffs in the first two rounds. Then for the next two rounds they would play a team from 2 of the other 3 conferences.

The reason they kept TB and Florida in the same conference as Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa is because of the crapload of snowbirds from Canada that spend the winter in Florida. Money money money mo-ney......

A few days ago, I heard that they aren't interested in naming the conferences by geographical location, but who knows what they'll end up doing. I say the conferences should be: Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe, and Orr!:p;)

I could see quebec.
Two teams in Toronto? I am buying stock in whatever biopharm makes drugs for depression :D

Why change? I think its ridiculous, especially considering the amount of additional travel for a lot of teams. What they need to do is simple, move Winnipeg to the West, and Nashville to the SE. Problem solved.

Yeah, but:
The realignment is aimed at evening out the travel schedules for all NHL teams with each team playing teams outside their conference twice per year, once at home and on the road.

It's more complicated than just moving Winnipeg to the West, and Nashville to the SE. What about Detroit? Why should they stay in the West? etc.....

The change is good, and necessary. No band-aid fixes for a large problem.

This isn't necessarily "better" for Eastern Conference teams, but it's better for half the league, and any time you can make a decision that will improve half the league, minimum, is fantastic.

You can't run a league where only 8 teams make money, and 22 are failing. This may help the league get stronger, and that's better for every team.

I like it.. it's going to make things interesting. Of course the real story here is that this alignment is totally designed for a 32 team league.

how about that game last night? bruins are now 14-0-1. timmy thomas has won 10 in a row with a .950sv% and a 1.70? gaa. dont think you can't say the bruins are the best in the league right now :D

so when do players vote? They must vote relatively soon, in the event that they don't approve so that the BOG and GMs can make changes.....

I don't think so. IMO, it's designed for a 28 team league.

Players vote in the next hour. The BoG vote was 26-4.

They're talking about it on HockeyCentral right now: http://player.rogersradio.ca/cjcl/on_air

Im real excited for tomorrow nights game, Panthers @ Bruins. It should be a great test for the Panthers, since I think the Bs are the best team in the league at the moment. As long as the Panthers show me that they can play with the Bruins, I have no problem losing to them, in OT of course :D

So far, I like what I see of the new conferences, and I would absolutely love it if they named 'em after some of the founders, etc. of the game… bring back the names of olden days, that would work too :)

Lets Go Blues!!!

I say call the divisions

Heart
Ross
Vezina
Calder

We don't need Versus to spend 1hr explaining the meaning of smythe, patrick, addams and Norris

then again, I can see them calling them the Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe and Orr divisions....

They've been talking about these names on talk radio all day. Each name actually corresponds to a conference that has their team (Gretzky-Edmonton, Lemieux-Pittsburgh, Howe-Detroit, Orr-Boston). So that kind of works.

But could you imagine the Habs hanging a "Orr Conference Champions" banner in their rink?:p

I think a few Habs would turn over in their graves.

I swear to god the Preds are the fu***ng bad news bears of the NHL. I don't know why I put myself through the torture of watching one of their games. I can honestly say tonights loss was partly the refs fault, though, and I never say that.

why does the NHL schedule teams to have back to back games with a significant amount of travel time?

Anyone been keeping up with the status if the Islanders? Are they going to stay on the isle or looking to move?

If you are a Panther or Lightning fan, how does this look fair? Both teams will get more snowbirds at games than before, and the travel is ridiculous.

Actually, I believe that is indeed the intent,,, snowbirds bring money into these teams' houses. But yea,,, I think put the Red Wings & Blue Jackets w/ the north-eastern Canadians, and then the two FL teams with the midwestern teams.

And NO NO NO… do NOT call these conferences / divisions after any player or person associated w/ the NHL that is still alive. I love Mario [favourite player of all time], but this would be not appropriate, IMHO.

Seguin scratched after missing team meeting

From what I've heard, the reason he was scratched was that this was not the first time this has happened. In the past, it was handled internally, but this last incident forced management to make a statement and healthy scratch the kid. Letting his early success get to his head perhaps......

On to Crosby......it's definitely not a good sign that he is sitting out the next two games. I would guess that he experienced some sort of very mild symptoms after their last game. Hopefully this isn't the beginning of the end of his career.....:(

If Davey Keon/Pocket Rocket came into the game today, he would be a dead man.
